Nella storia della musica Rock è spesso ricordato in quanto nella post produzione è stata mantenuta con assoluta fedeltà la registrazione dal mixer, compresi rumori e distorsioni. Il risultato è un album ufficiale dal sapore di un bootleg. La copertina riproduce una parte di un'opera dell'artista Brett Whiteley denominata Alchemy 1974. Per qualche strana scelta della casa discografica al momento della pubblicazione vennero però esclusi molti brani che vennero invece suonati. But the most important thing to understand is that there can be no external alchemy without there first being internal alchemy. Alchemy covers several philosophical traditions spanning some four millennia and several continents, but we can sum it up in this way... Alchemy is the philosophy and practice of liberating a physical substance from its "fixed" physical properties. Like other sciences, early alchemists used scientific processes, in other words techniques that could be replicated in a lab. But unlike other sciences, you cannot separate the scientific process of alchemy from hermetic principals and spirituality. Those principals and spiritual truths are the basis upon which alchemy stands. It was believed that without achieving a form of enlightenment or inner spiritual revelation, the truths of the universe (which would enable you to transcend temporal reality) would not ever be learned and known to the practitioner. There would be no hope of you transcending the fixed properties of the physical dimension so as to transform something like ordinary metal into gold without gaining access to the higher truths of this universe through spiritual practice and mastery. The Great Work of Alchemy is often described as a series of four stages, which are represented by colors: Nigredo (a blackening or melanosis), which represents a process of putrefaction or decomposition. In this stage, ingredients had to be cleansed and cooked extensively. Internally, this represents a kind of spiritual death and the confronting of one's shadow aspect. Albedo (a whitening or leucosis). The washing away of impurities. The physical subject (such as ingredient) is to be purified and divided into two opposing principles. Internally, this represents re gaining the original purity and receptivity of the soul. Symbolically, it represents the process of washing away the ashes to find the soul. Citrinitas (a yellowing or xanthosis). This refers to transmutation and the actual turning of a subject (such as an ingredient) into its highest state such as silver into gold. Internally, this represents awakening...becoming a manifestation of the soul. Becoming a walking embodiment of the soul, rather than a muted reflection of it. It is a process of anything turning into a higher form of itself. Rubedo (a reddening, purpling, or iosis). Rubedo refers to the end state; alchemical success. Achievement of the perfected state... The final state of perfection of a subject (such as an ingredient). It can be interpreted as achieving enlightened consciousness and the total fusion of spirit and matter. This stage is often represented by the symbol of the phoenix. In summation, alchemy can be defined simply as the conscious, intentional process of transmutation, purification, and perfection of _____________ (fill in the blank). But the most important thing to understand is that there can be no external alchemy without there first being internal alchemy. They worked in codes and symbols -- to reserve their great knowledge for only those who were deemed deserving. Instead of the chemical formulas used today, alchemists created elaborate, fantastic illustrations of dragons, warriors, and monsters to represent the chemical experiments they carried out. Centuries passed, and many historical alchemical texts and images remain undeciphered. Luckily for the history of science, we have brilliant minds like Larry Principe of Johns Hopkins University. In our latest video, we take a look at Larry's work: digging deep into ancient manuscripts and texts, trying to find clues and cues as to what it was that alchemists really were up to. In addition to an enormous book collection in his office, Larry has a lab where he performs ancient alchemical experiments, helping to set the record straight on the history and development of alchemy. He is perhaps most famous for his work The Secret Teachings of All Ages: An Encyclopedic Outline of Masonic, Hermetic, Qabbalistic and Rosicrucian Symbolical Philosophy, which is widely regarded as his magnum opus, and which he published at the age of 27. He has been widely recognized as a leading scholar in the fields of religion, mythology, mysticism, and the occult. In 1934, Hall founded the Philosophical Research Society (PRS) in Los Angeles, California, dedicating it to an idealistic approach to the solution of human problems. The PRS claims to be non-sectarian and entirely free from educational, political, or ecclesiastical control, and the Society's programs stress the need for the integration of philosophy, religion, and science into one system of instruction. The PRS Library, a public facility devoted to source materials in obscure fields, has many rare and scarce items now impossible to obtain elsewhere. In 1973 (47 years after writing The Secret Teachings of All Ages), Hall was recognized as a 33º Mason (the highest honor conferred by the Supreme Council of the Scottish Rite), at a ceremony held at PRS on December 8th, despite never being initiated into the physical craft. A power talk...... This video came together through happenstance , I was listening to some classical music and then clicked on this Lecture originally titled Winter King. Well for the first 10 minutes or so I notice how well the music goes with the theme of this talk, so originally only wanted to use the 1st 10 minutes, but slowly listening further into the lecture, I found that there was no "correct" place to cut the talk, as its all a master piece of a listen. If the music is to distracting, then please see below for original post. (Below description of the lecture's author is unknown) Recorded 1996 in Stoffwechsel, Mannheim, Kurpfalz. This talk was recorded during the time Terence McKenna and Sheldon Rocklin were filming the documentary for Mystic Fire, which was originally titled "Coincidencia Oppositorum: A Union of Opposites" The alchemists were after what McKenna describes as a â magical theory of nature.â They used precise and calculated methods that would pave the way for the future intellectual development of some important sciences such as chemistry, biology, phenomenology, and psychology. Their intention was to transform the human spirit and the physical body itself into something divine and wholly other, something resembling the odd and spectacular alchemical art of the time. They experimented with myriad combinations of special chemicals, magical formulas, and complex distillation processes designed to produce the fabled âphilosopher's stoneâ: a metaphorical goal which can be read in many ways. In essence, the alchemists were trying to bring heaven down to earth by merging spiritual mysticism with the physiological exploration of alchemical mixtures. So while the dream of European alchemy may have apparently died in the 16th century, the underlying motivation of the alchemists â a desire for innovative and genuine spiritual experience â is a fundamental human characteristic that can be traced through many different cultures and time periods. As an example of this, at the end of The Alchemical Dream, McKenna makes an interesting historical footnote about a young solider named Rene Descartes who was part of the invading Hapsburg army which defeated the Bohemian kingdom. Shortly after this time, Descartes was visited in a dream by an angelic apparition who instructed him with a piece of advice which would fundamentally alter our world. The angel said to him, âThe conquest of nature is to be achieved through measures and numbers.â Descartes would go on to become one of the most influential scientists and philosophers of his day.
