The narrative unfolds from the point-of-view of a single character named Roach. As part of the filmmaking process, he's been given a camera to document his world. The footage he gets is urgent, because there's a war against squeegee kids.
This documentary is from the point of view of the kids themselves, in order to provide alternative voices. Roach's camera is positioned behind "enemy" lines: living in derelict buildings, squeegeeing for money, being hunted by police. The viewer is forced to look at the living reality of Roach and his friends: hungry on the streets in one of the world's most prosperous countries—considered thugs, criminals, and enemies.
This film shatters the windshield between Us and Them. Roach's camera acts as the hammer: hard, forceful, direct, impacting with the force of an actual life. Cross' camera documents the impact: recording the reflections of individual lives, mirrored upon the shards of flying glass.

The most significant evidence of the film's impact was the passage of a bipartisan bill, "The Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003". As the bill supported by Human Rights Watch, the DC think tank Hudson Institute and the nonprofit Stop Prisoner Rape (SPR) circulated through Congress, SPR contacted (Gabriel London) about sending the film to Senator Kennedy, the Democratic Senate sponsor of the bill. After his office saw the film, (Gabriel) was contacted about the possibility of bringing Rodney's mother to DC to testify. In June 2003, Rodney Hulin's mother, Linda Bruntmyer, made the journey from Amarillo, Texas to appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee as the lead-off witness in hearings on the prison rape bill. In 2003, the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 became a reality.

Simply put, Allen Iverson is the uncommon thread. Over the course of a 14 year NBA career, Iverson averaged a staggering 26.7 points, 6.2 assists and 2.2 steals per game. The long-time Philadelphia 76er was voted onto 11 All-Star teams, was named NBA MVP in 2001 and is a surefire hall of famer. As impactful as his game was on the court, though, the 6-0 dynamo made an even bigger cultural dent off of it. The native of Virginia brought cornrows, tats and headbands to the NBA. He brought style, attitude and hip-hop to the league. More than that, he brought them to pop culture. In short, Iverson made it OK to be yourself, to be uncompromising, to be real. He made it OK to be uncommon.

STORY behind this fan video: It was early in June 2001. After doing the Montreal to Calgary and back roadtrip with three friends in a small car, with the only purpose of seing NOFX play at the MacEwans Hall in Calgary with $wingin'Utter$ (and a new band called "Rised Against"...), I would be coming back for my Final exams. I was 18, still in High Scool when I should've well been done a year prior, and I had missed most of my finals because of that roadtrip. I came back to school that day and my teacher told me I had to hand in my video by monday as a final assingment. So I did I picked up a camera and made this clip "tape to tape", on VHS, and shot the entire thing in basically 24h. Funny thing, there was No Editing. Shots that appear on screen were shot at that moment on that tape. I added the songs at the very end, when I transferred the footage from Hi-8 on VHS. And it's only now that I figured out how to transfer VHS to USB. So here it is. Playboy, Punks, and Pretty Things. Less funny part of the story, half the boys decided to stay in Calgary for the summer, and eventually went cherry picking in the Okanagan Valley. My friend and I needed to come home, couldn't stay out west. So we flew back, in shame. I shot that video the day after coming back from Calgary,few days after the NOFX/Swingin'Utters concert. Months later, that friend of mine would commit suicide and be remembered on that porch of that church, coincidentally featured on this clip's final scene. But I'd be gone out west by then. Funny how life works out. In loving Memory of Jason Duquette 1983-2001. $wingin'Utters$ released the $wingin' Utter$ album in October 2010. Jason's funeral were held at that church in early October 2011.

Punks is a 2001 film produced by Babyface, directed by Patrik-Ian Polk and starring Rockmond Dunbar, Seth Gilliam, Renoly Santiago, Jazzmun, and Dwight Ewell.
The film follows the trials and tribulations of a group of gay African American friends. While black gay life is explored in the film, universal aspects of friendship plays at the plot's forefront. The film's themes were later used for the 2005 LOGO cable television series Noah's Arc. The film has made its television debut on LOGO on August 7, 2011.

As the bill supported by Human Rights Watch, the DC think tank Hudson Institute and the nonprofit Stop Prisoner Rape (SPR) circulated through Congress, SPR contacted (Gabriel London) about sending the film to Senator Kennedy, the Democratic Senate sponsor of the bill. After his office saw the film, (Gabriel) was contacted about the possibility of bringing Rodney's mother to DC to testify. In June 2003, Rodney Hulin's mother, Linda Bruntmyer, made the journey from Amarillo, Texas to appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee as the lead-off witness in hearings on the prison rape bill. In 2003, the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 became a reality.

My friend and I needed to come home, couldn't stay out west. So we flew back, in shame. I shot that video the day after coming back from Calgary,few days after the NOFX/Swingin'Utters concert. Months later, that friend of mine would commit suicide and be remembered on that porch of that church, coincidentally featured on this clip's final scene. But I'd be gone out west by then. Funny how life works out. In loving Memory of Jason Duquette 1983-2001. $wingin'Utters$ released the $wingin' Utter$ album in October 2010. Jason's funeral were held at that church in early October 2011.

Alberta wildfire growing, may reach Saskatchewan

(CNN)The massive wildfire that forced almost 90,000 people to evacuate in Alberta is growing and approaching the neighboring province of Saskatchewan, Canadian officials said. Dry and extremely windy conditions are fueling the blaze, which has scorched more than 1,560 square kilometers (602 square miles) and ravaged the city of Fort McMurray, Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale said Saturday ...
