Cold inflation pressure is the inflation pressure of tires before the car is driven and the tires warmed up. Recommended cold inflation pressure is displayed on the owner's manual and on the placard (or sticker) attached to the vehicle door edge, pillar, glovebox door or fuel filler flap. Drivers are encouraged to make sure their tires are adequately inflated, as suboptimal tire pressure can greatly reduce fuel economy, increase emissions, increased wear on the edges of the tire surface, and can lead to premature failure of the tire. Excessive pressure, on the other hand, will lead to blowouts, decrease braking performance, and cause uneven wear (i.e. greater wear on the inner part of the tire surface).
Tire pressure is commonly measured in psi in the imperial and US customary systems, bar, which is deprecated but accepted for use with SI or the kilopascal (kPa), which is an SI unit.
Ambient temperature affects the cold tire pressure. Absolute cold tire pressure (gauge pressure plus atmospheric pressure) varies directly with the absolute temperature, measured in kelvins.
Pressure (symbol: p or P) is the force applied perpendicular to the surface of an object per unit area over which that force is distributed. Gauge pressure (also spelled gage pressure) is the pressure relative to the ambient pressure.
Various units are used to express pressure. Some of these derive from a unit of force divided by a unit of area; the SI unit of pressure, the pascal (Pa), for example, is one newton per square metre; similarly, the pound-force per square inch (psi) is the traditional unit of pressure in the imperial and US customary systems. Pressure may also be expressed in terms of standard atmospheric pressure; the atmosphere (atm) is equal to this pressure and the torr is defined as 1⁄760 of this. Manometric units such as the centimetre of water, millimetre of mercury and inch of mercury are used to express pressures in terms of the height of column of a particular fluid in a manometer.
Pressure is the amount of force acting per unit area. The symbol for pressure is p or P. The IUPAC recommendation for pressure is a lower-case p. However, upper-case P is widely used. The usage of P vs p depends on the field in which one is working, on the nearby presence of other symbols for quantities such as power and momentum, and on writing style.
A tire-pressure monitoring system (TPMS) is an electronic system designed to monitor the air pressure inside the pneumatic tires on various types of vehicles. TPMS report real-time tire-pressure information to the driver of the vehicle, either via a gauge, a pictogram display, or a simple low-pressure warning light. TPMS can be divided into two different types – direct (dTPMS) and indirect (iTPMS). TPMS are provided both at an OEM (factory) level as well as an aftermarket solution. The target of a TPMS is avoiding traffic accidents, poor fuel economy, and increased tire wear due to under-inflated tires through early recognition of a hazardous state of the tires.
Due to the influence tire pressure has on vehicle safety and efficiency, tire-pressure monitoring (TPM) was first adopted by the European market as an optional feature for luxury passenger vehicles in the 1980s. Some claim the efficiency gains are negligible. The first passenger vehicle to adopt TPM was the Porsche 959 in 1986, using a hollow spoke wheel system developed by PSK. In 1996 Renault used the Michelin PAX system for the Scenic and in 1999 the PSA Peugeot Citroën decided to adopt TPM as a standard feature on the Peugeot 607. The following year (2000), Renault launched the Laguna II, the first high volume mid-size passenger vehicle in the world to be equipped with TPM as a standard feature. In the United States, TPM was introduced by General Motors for the 1991 model year for the Corvette in conjunction with Goodyear run-flat tires. The system uses sensors in the wheels and a driver display which can show tire pressure at any wheel, plus warnings for both high and low pressure. It has been standard on Corvettes ever since.
A mountain bike or mountain bicycle (abbreviated MTB; or ATB, for all-terrain bicycle) is a bicycle created for off-road cycling.
Mountain bikes are typically ridden on mountain trails, fire roads, logging roads, single tracks and other unpaved environments. These types of terrain commonly include rocks, washouts, ruts, loose sand, loose gravel, roots, and steep grades (both inclines and declines). Mountain bikes are built to handle this terrain and the obstacles that are found in it like logs, vertical drop offs, and smaller boulders.
Mountain bike construction differs from a typical bicycle in many ways. The most noticeable differences are the inclusion of suspension on the frame and fork, larger knobby tires, more durable heavy duty wheels, more powerful brakes, and lower gear ratios needed for steep grades with poor traction.
Since the development of the sport in the 1970s many new subtypes of mountain biking have developed, such as cross-country (XC) biking, all-day endurance biking, Freeride-biking, downhill mountain biking, and a variety of track and slalom competitions. Each of these place different demands on the bike requiring different designs for optimal performance. MTB development has included an increase in suspension, typically up to 8" or 203mm, and gearing, up to 30 speeds, to facilitate both climbing and rapid descents. However, advancements in sprocket design has recently led to the "1x (pronounced one by)" trend, simplifying the gearing to one Chainring/Sprocket in the front and multiple sprockets on the rear of the drive train, more commonly, 9, 10 or 11 speed.

Auto Talk 101: How to Check Tire Pressure and Inflate Tires - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. Filling tire pressure is a pretty simple process. The first thing you have to determine is what is proper inflation for your tire. There are two numbers and most people do not realize this. There is what we call operating pressure and there is what we call maximum pressure. What it says on the side of the tire is maximum pressure. This one says maximum inflation 44 PSI. What that means is that is the maximum amount of air you can put in that tire without jeopardizing the structural integrity of the tire. That is not where you should inflate your tire. You should inflate your tire to operating pressure which is determined by the car manufacturer. So I looked on the tire sticker wh...

The Tire Pressure Monitoring system light will let you know when your tire pressure is low and when your sensors are malfunctioning. In this video I show you how to find the correct tire pressure (door sill sticker), find the low tire, inflate the tire, and also inspect all of the tires. For every 10°F the pressure will change 1psi and in this case, Fall has a large change in temperature and it triggered the TPMS light. If the low tire pressure light is flashing, this is usually due to low batteries. The batteries should last from 5-7 years or around 100,000 miles. Unfortunately the only way to replace these batteries is to take the tire off the rim. In 2005 the US governemnt told the car companies to get ready to have all their cars include a standard TPMS and in 2007 it was required ...

Tyre pressure really affects your fuel economy, performance and safety. Underinflated tyres cause excessive wear to your tyres sides and increase rolling resistance. Overinflated tyres cause wear in the middle of the tyre and result in poor ride quality and reduced grip. To find your tyre pressures, locate the tyre pressure placard inside the drivers side door jamb, in the glovebox, inside the fuel filler door or under the bonnet. Tyre pressure should be checked when the tyre is cold as heat from driving affects the pressure reading. What is the ideal tire pressure for a comfortable bike ride with minimal risk of flats? For road riding some believe the ideal pressure to be about 15% less than the manufacturer's rated maximum pressure. There is a mathematical formula, of course. Formula: P = 600*L / (W*W) + 0.75*W - 25 (P) pressure in psi (W) width in mm (L) load weight of bike + cyclist on that wheel in pounds Example: W = 25 mm tire L = 60% of 180 pound weight on rear wheel = 108 pounds P = 97.43 psi for rear tire One popular guideline to find your ideal tire pressure is the Tire Drop method. Tire drop is how much the tire deforms vertically (sag). http://www.bikequarterly.com/images/TireDrop.pdf http://www.dorkypantsr.us/bike-tire-pressure-calculator.html Tire drop is different for the front ti...

PART2 is now out here: https://youtu.be/2Ps4dfgxGAQ Here we examine how serious riders can save 74 watts of losses by paying attention to the hidden and mysterious science of bicycle tyre (aka bike tire)! In all truth only a handful of people fully understand this area which has been intensely studied in wind tunnels and labs over the last 10 years. This culminated in Cancellara's amazing victory in the Paris Roubaix 2010 using cutting edge tyre and wheel technology. For the first time, we outline everything you need to know about bicycle tyre rolling resistance and aerodynamics using evidence not speculation. We gratefully acknowledge all the hard work of FLO cycling, Blather 'bout Bikes, Zipp and others bringing this data to the public domain. In our opinion 74w is a conservative estima...
