Delusion
A delusion is a belief held with strong conviction despite superior evidence to the contrary. As a pathology, it is distinct from a belief based on false or incomplete information, confabulation, dogma, illusion, or other effects of perception.
Delusions typically occur in the context of neurological or mental illness, although they are not tied to any particular disease and have been found to occur in the context of many pathological states (both physical and mental). However, they are of particular diagnostic importance in psychotic disorders including schizophrenia, paraphrenia, manic episodes of bipolar disorder, and psychotic depression.

Although non-specific concepts of madness have been around for several thousand years, the psychiatrist and philosopher Karl Jaspers was the first to define the three main criteria for a belief to be considered delusional in his 1913 book General Psychopathology. These criteria are:

Delusion (Croatian: Zavaravanje for Pretense or Faking) is a 1998 Croatian crime-drama film directed by Zeljko Senecic.
Plot
Joža (Božidar Orešković), a middle-aged professional driver, offers Stella (Sandra Lončarić), a young and attractive prostitute, a ride from Zadar to Zagreb. Joža remembers his traumatic war experiences and his son who returned from combat with a severe disability. Underneath her seemingly cold and calculated demeanor, Stella is also a grieving parent. During the ride, the two develop a special relationship.

Plot
An embezzler driving through the Nevada desert picks up a Las Vegas showgirl and her psychotic boyfriend after their vehicle crashes. The psycho boyfriend, a not-very-bright hitman, has no intention of letting him get away with the stolen cash. Peculiar desert characters, burnt steaks, boobs, and Nietzsche ensue.

Tristan
Tristan (Latin & Brythonic: Drustanus; Welsh: Trystan), also known as Tristram, is the male hero of the Arthurian Tristan and Iseult story. He was a Cornish knight of the Round Table. He is the son of Blancheflor and Rivalen (in later versions Isabelle and Meliodas), and the nephew of King Mark of Cornwall, sent to fetch Iseult back from Ireland to wed the king. However, he and Iseult accidentally consume a love potion while en route and fall helplessly in love. The pair undergo numerous trials that test their secret affair.

Tristan made his first medieval appearance in the twelfth century in Celtic mythology circulating in the north of France and the Kingdom of Brittany, which had close ancestral and cultural links with Cornwall by way of the ancient British kingdom of Dumnonia, as made clear in the story itself, and the closely related Cornish and Breton languages. Although the oldest stories concerning Tristan are lost, some of the derivatives still exist. A delusion is a false fixed belief that is not amenable to change in light of conflicting evidence. As a pathology, it is distinct from a belief based on false or incomplete information, confabulation, dogma, illusion, hallucination, or some other misleading effects of perception, as individuals with those beliefs are able to change or readjust their beliefs upon reviewing the evidence. However:
"The distinction between a delusion and a strongly held idea is sometimes difficult to make and depends in part on the degree of conviction with which the belief is held despite clear or reasonable contradictory evidence regarding its veracity.
Delusions have been found to occur in the context of many pathological states (both general physical and mental) and are of particular diagnostic importance in psychotic disorders including schizophrenia, paraphrenia, manic episodes of bipolar disorder, and psychotic depression.

This video answers the question: Can I give some examples of delusions as they might be seen by mental health counselors in their work?
There's a lot of confusion about delusions and when something rises to the level of delusional. A delusion is a fixed false belief that doesn't change in light of conflicting evidence. Delusions get confused with hallucinations. Hallucinations represent a separate construct: this is when somebody sees something other people can't see or hears or something other people can't hear or otherwise senses something other people cannot sense. Oftentimes delusions and hallucinations go together like in certain disorders, but they don't necessarily have to appear together.
Delusions are consistent with the concept of psychosis - they break from reality. When someone is psychotic, 65% of the time we would see the delusions.
Certain mental disorders may be associated with delusions: schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, schizophreniform disorder, delusional disorder, major depressive disorder, and bipolar disorder.

A delusion is a false fixed belief that is not amenable to change in light of conflicting evidence. As a pathology, it is distinct from a belief based on false or incomplete information, confabulation, dogma, illusion, hallucination, or some other misleading effects of perception, as individuals with those beliefs are able to change or readjust their beliefs upon reviewing the evidence. However:
"The distinction between a delusion and a strongly held idea is sometimes difficult to make and depends in part on the degree of conviction with which the belief is held despite clear or reasonable contradictory evidence regarding its veracity.
Delusions have been found to occur in the context of many pathological states (both general physical and mental) and are of particular diagnostic importance in psychotic disorders including schizophrenia, paraphrenia, manic episodes of bipolar disorder, and psychotic depression.

This video answers the question: Can I give some examples of delusions as they might be seen by mental health counselors in their work?
There's a lot of confusion about delusions and when something rises to the level of delusional. A delusion is a fixed false belief that doesn't change in light of conflicting evidence. Delusions get confused with hallucinations. Hallucinations represent a separate construct: this is when somebody sees something other people can't see or hears or something other people can't hear or otherwise senses something other people cannot sense. Oftentimes delusions and hallucinations go together like in certain disorders, but they don't necessarily have to appear together.
Delusions are consistent with the concept of psychosis - they break from reality. When someone is psychotic, 65% of the time we would see the delusions.
Certain mental disorders may be associated with delusions: schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, schizophreniform disorder, delusional disorder, major depressive disorder, and bipolar disorder.

A delusion is a belief held with strong conviction despite superior evidence to the contrary. As a pathology, it is distinct from a belief based on false or incomplete information, confabulation, dogma, illusion, or other effects of perception.
Delusions typically occur in the context of neurological or mental illness, although they are not tied to any particular disease and have been found to occur in the context of many pathological states (both physical and mental). However, they are of particular diagnostic importance in psychotic disorders including schizophrenia, paraphrenia, manic episodes of bipolar disorder, and psychotic depression.
