(b. 1512 - d. September 5, 1548) The sixth and final wife of King Henry VIII. Henry died during the marriage, leaving Catherine a widow, but more importantly, a SURVIVOR. Catherine had been married and widowed twice before, the most recent being a sickly husband. She was in her early 30's, but still attractive and childless, when she was noticed by the old and ailing king. Though she was already courting Thomas Seymour, the brother of Henry's third wife, Catherine believed that the king's proposal of marriage was a task assigned to her by God, which she obeyed on that basis and put her relationship with Thomas Seymour on hold. Being a natural caregiver and a motherly type, Catherine blended well into the royal household and got on well with Henry's two daughters and son. Henry himself benefitted from her experience and patience in dealing with chronic illness as she helped make his life bearable while he was bedridden. Catherine narrowly escaped a warrant for her arrest on the grounds of being a heretic (straying from Catholicism to embrace religious reform) by cleverly playing off the seriousness of her beliefs as just being "woman's fancies" of no consequence to anyone but herself. Henry's death freed her to pick up on her relationship with Thomas Seymour, whom she married and became pregnant by. During her pregnancy it became clear that Seymour, who had higher ambitions, was seeking a relationship with Henry's daughter Elizabeth I who was staying with them at the time. A heartbroken Catherine later gave birth to a girl, Mary, shortly before dying of complications from childbearing. History seems to say less of her than any of the other queens, suggesting only that she was of middling beauty with auburn hair. Most of the clues to her appearance were extracted from consistent features found across many of her different portraits as well as features suggested by the portraits of her brother and sister.

Catherine Parr (1512 -- 5 September 1548) was Queen consort of England and Ireland and the last of the six wives of King Henry VIII of England. She married Henry VIII on 12 July 1543 and outlived him. She was the most-married English queen, as she had a total of four husbands.Catherine enjoyed a close relationship with Henry's three children and was personally involved in the education of Elizabeth and Edward, both of whom became English monarchs. She was influential in Henry's passing of the Third Succession Act in 1543 that restored both Lady Mary and Lady Elizabeth to the line of succession to the throne.Catherine was appointed Regent from July to September 1544 while Henry was on a military campaign in France and in case he lost his life, she was to rule as Regent until Edward came of age. On account of Catherine's Protestant sympathies, she provoked the enmity of powerful Catholic officials who sought to turn the King against her; a warrant for her arrest was drawn up in 1546; however, she and the King were soon reconciled. Her book Prayers or Meditations became the first book published by an English queen under her own name. She assumed the role of Elizabeth's guardian following the King's death; and another book, The Lamentations of a Sinner, was published.Six months after Henry's death, she married her fourth and final husband, Thomas Seymour, 1st Baron Seymour of Sudeley. The marriage proved to be short-lived as she died in September 1548, probably of complications resulting from childbirth.
