Herping: Eastern collared lizard (Crotaphytus collaris)
So what you're looking at here is the eastern collared lizard, Crotaphytus collaris, which are iguanids meaning they belong to the same family as green iguanas (Iguana iguana), anoles (Genus Anolis) and horned lizards (Genus Phrynosoma). Collared lizards prefer insects in their diet, they will also eat other lizards and snakes, and even, occasionally, plant matter. Collared lizards will also escape by darting away on their hind legs only - a fascinating sight to say the least.
