The Police were an English rock band formed in London in 1977. For the majority of their history, the band consisted of Sting (lead singer, bassist and principal songwriter), Andy Summers (guitarist) and Stewart Copeland (drummer). The Police became globally popular in the late 1970s and are generally regarded as one of the first new wave groups to achieve mainstream success, playing a style of rock that was influenced by punk, reggae, and jazz. They are also considered one of the leaders of the Second British Invasion of the U.S. They disbanded in 1986, but reunited in early 2007 for a one-off world tour that ended in August 2008.
Their 1978 debut album, Outlandos d'Amour, reached No. 6 in the UK, and their second album Reggatta de Blanc became the first of five consecutive UK No. 1 albums.Synchronicity from 1983 was No. 1 in both the UK and U.S., selling over 8 million copies in the U.S. alone. The Police have sold over 75 million records, making them one of the world's best-selling artists of all time. They were the world's highest-earning musicians in 2008, thanks to their reunion tour.
A police force is a constituted body of persons empowered by the state to enforce the law, protect property, and limit civil disorder. Their powers include the legitimized use of force. The term is most commonly associated with police services of a sovereign state that are authorized to exercise the police power of that state within a defined legal or territorial area of responsibility. Police forces are often defined as being separate from military or other organizations involved in the defense of the state against foreign aggressors; however, gendarmerie are military units charged with civil policing.
Law enforcement, however, constitutes only part of policing activity. Policing has included an array of activities in different situations, but the predominant ones are concerned with the preservation of order. In some societies, in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, these developed within the context of maintaining the class system and the protection of private property. Many police forces suffer from police corruption to a greater or lesser degree. The police force is usually a public sector service, meaning they are paid through taxes.
Darkness, the polar opposite to brightness, is understood to be an absence of visible light. It is also the appearance of black in a colored space.
Humans are unable to distinguish color when either light or darkness predominate. In conditions of insufficient light, perception is achromatic and ultimately, black.
The emotional response to darkness has generated metaphorical usages of the term in many cultures.
The perception of darkness differs from the mere absence of light due to the effects of after images on perception. In perceiving, the eye is active, and that part of the retina that is unstimulated produces a complementary afterimage.
In terms of physics, an object is said to be dark when it absorbs photons, causing it to appear dim compared to other objects. For example, a matte black paint does not reflect much visible light and appears dark, whereas white paint reflects much light and appears bright. For more information see color.
Light cannot be absorbed without limit. According to the principle of the conservation of Energy, energy cannot be created or destroyed; it can only be converted from one type to another. Consequently, most objects that absorb visible light reemit it as heat. So, although an object may appear dark, it is likely bright at a frequency that humans cannot perceive. For more information see thermodynamics.
"Never Have I Ever", also known as "I've Never…" or "Ten Fingers", is a drinking game.
The verbal game is started with the players getting into a circle. Then, the first player says a simple statement starting with "Never have I ever". Anyone who has done what the first player has not must drink. Play then continues around the circle, and the next person makes a statement. An additional rule – uncommon, but beneficial to the game –is that if there is no one taking a drink, then the one who said the particular "I have never…" must take a drink. This rule often forces the players to strategize more and makes for less disposable/pointless suggestions.
A further variation holds that whenever only one person is drinking, that person must give a detailed account of why they are drinking. Another variation of this game involves putting up five or ten fingers, putting one down whenever something mentioned has been done. Those who end up putting down all of their fingers must take several successive drinks.
Stewart Armstrong Copeland (born July 16, 1952) is an American musician, multi-instrumentalist and composer best known as the drummer for the English rock band The Police and for his film music soundtracks. He has also written various pieces of music for ballet, opera and orchestra. According to MusicRadar, Copeland’s "distinctive drum sound and uniqueness of style has made him one of the most popular drummers to ever get behind a drumset". He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Police in 2003 and the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 2005.
Stewart Armstrong Copeland was born in Alexandria, Virginia on July 16, 1952, the youngest of four children of CIA officer Miles Copeland, Jr. and Scottish archaeologist Lorraine Adie. The family moved to Cairo, Egypt, a few months after his birth, and Copeland spent his formative years in the Middle East. In 1957, the family moved to Beirut, Lebanon, and Copeland attended the American Community School there. He started taking drum lessons at age twelve and was playing drums for school dances within a year. Later he moved to England and attended Millfield from 1967 to 1969. Copeland went to college in California, attending United States International University and UC Berkeley. Returning to England, he worked as road manager for the progressive rock band Curved Air's 1974 reunion tour, and then as drummer for the band during 1975 and 1976.
Song written by Stewart Copeland. From the album ''Ghost in the machine'' (1981). Performed by The Police.
Darkness is a song by The Police and is on the 1981 Ghost in the Machine album. Since there was no music video made for this song, my sister and I took the liberty of making one ourselves. See more Ryan Productions videos by going to: http://ryanproductionsusa.googlepages.com We hope that Sting, Stewart Copeland, and Andy Summers feel that this video goes well with their great song.
i own nothing, just love this tune.
I thought I would make an uplifting slideshow showcasing the band to a rather depressing song off of Ghost In The Machine (1981) Enjoy.

I made this on a day I felt like going back to bed instead of going to work. "Darkness" by The Police I can dream up schemes when I'm sitting in my seat I don't see any flaws 'til I get to my feet I wish I never woke up this morning Life was easy when it was boring I could make a mark if it weren't so dark I could be replaced by any bright spark But darkness makes me fumble For a key, to a door that's wide open Instead of worrying about my clothes I could be someone that nobody knows I wish I never woke up this morning Life was easy when it was boring I can dream up schemes when I'm sitting in my seat I don't see any flaws 'til I get to my feet I wish I never woke up this morning Life was easy when it was boring I wish I never woke up this morning Life was easy when it was boring
If all this "Holiday Cheer" is really getting you down, here's a nice number guaranteed to really sink your mood. Written by Stewart Copeland, the last track from "Ghost In The Machine" is uncharacteristically dark. I always felt it faded too soon, so I created a loop toward the end -- repeated it twice, but tweezed a piece out of the middle of it the 2nd time around -- and Viola: a longer "Darkness". Enjoy.

The Police - Stewart Armstrong Copeland & son of Miles Axe Copeland Jr. , Andrew James "Andy" Summers & Sting a.k.a. Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner are live in the ABC studios talking to Molly Meldrum about many things which to fans like myself may of never of known until now because we were to young! I find it interesting when Stewart starts to talk about Klark Kent and his background and seeing the other two looking around and Sting with his hands around his mouth almost trying to almost shoosh Stewart to be quiet especially when one three letter organization is mentioned and Stewart should know these three letter organizations as well as anybody in the public could ever possibly of known,(Google his father & see for yourself) I don't know but I find this body language very interesting an...
Interviews with Stewart, Andy and Sting at Melbourne Showground on the day of the final concert of their Synchronicity Tour on March 4, 1984. This was broadcast a week later on ABC's "Countdown" program. Chopped rather heavy-handedly during broadcast recording (I presumably didn't want the other program stuff) I have further edited it to tidy it up a little.
A segment from the long running Australian music TV series Countdown, which aired on the ABC from 1974-1987. This particular segment aired during the Countdown 'End of the Decade' special, a retrospective of the music of the 1970s, which originally aired on December 16, 1979, on the ABC. This clip features an interview of British band The Police, featuring band members Sting, Andy Summers, and Stewart Copeland, conducted by Countdown Talent Co-Ordinator Molly Meldrum. The interview begins, after a short clip of The Police's 'Message In A Bottle', with Molly asking the band about their relatively fast success, having kept Fleetwood Mac from the Number 1 position in the UK for a long time. A discussion is then had about how The Police achieved the success they have. Also discussed is h...

Stewart Copeland of The Police Reminisces About the '82 US Festival. "We were sold on the idea of coming to this festival in that it would be the opposite of Woodstock. It's absolutely comfortable, the grass is clean, the sound system is pristine. It was a really great experience, and the 'US' Festival was really the precursor to that. The idea that a festival isn't misery. The Festival still resonates. It was not Woodstock. It should've been, considering the talent." - Stewart Copeland, 2012 ABOUT THE FILM Regarded as the Woodstock of the 80's, the 'US' Festival captured the mindset of a culture on the cusp of a technology transformation. Amadeuz Christ's 10 POINT PLAN: 1. Teach our children the truth about this system of (so called) white supremacy and how it operates. We can't keep praying it will simply go away. 2. Teach our children that they are Indigenous to this land and teach them who they are. 3. Pull out of all political parties and vote as one block. We don't even need to run any candidates. Simply put our voting power towards those who deliver on their promises to us. 4. Build a strong economic base by promoting Black business and start to employ ourselves and our children so they won't be dependent on jobs. 5. Hold our leaders accountable for their non action and attempts to pacify us. This includes political leaders and church leaders. 6. All those stories that used to say
There's a new world begins today
Bad old days just a memory
Trouble is that it seems to me - yeah, yeah, yeah
It's the same old planet
Golden dreams of a golden age
Silver tongue of an ancient sage
When the prose is half fulfilled
Seems it's time for you to pay all the bills - no, no no
Not on the planet
I had a vision the other night
Woken up by an angel of light
She sang a song so pure and bright
A simple tale of how it might have been
My political friend tells me I've got to fight
He says I've got to stand up for my rights
Well that's all right my friend you know I will
Just one thing you know - I ain't gonna kill - no, no no
Not on the planet
Go take me flying out of this place
To another time and some other space
I'm just another soldier fallen from grace
Won't you see me with a smile on my face?
No,no,no!
Not on the planet
(Not on the planet)
It's a new world
(Not on the planet)
It's the same old planet
(Not on the planet)
It's a new world
(Not on the planet)
But it's the same old planet
(Not on the planet)
It's a new world
(Not on the planet)
It's the same old planet
(Not on the planet)
It's a new world
(Not on the planet)
It's the same old planet
(Not on the planet)
