ITV Yorkshire, previously known as Yorkshire Television and sometimes unofficially abbreviated to YTV, is the British television service provided by ITV Broadcasting Limited for the Yorkshire franchise area on the ITV network. Until 1974, this was primarily the three ridings of Yorkshire and associated areas served by the Emley Moor television transmitter. Following a re-organisation in 1974 the transmission area was extended to include Humberside, Lincolnshire and parts of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and North and West Norfolk, served by the Belmont transmitter.

The 1967 franchise round stipulated that the influential pan-North region, the licence for which was owned by Granada Television based in Manchester, had to be split up. Consequently it was decided that Granada would keep the North West franchise and a new franchise created for Yorkshire. Two consortiums applied for the franchise, Telefusion Yorkshire Ltd and Yorkshire Independent Television, the former having large financial backing (supported by the Blackpool-based Telefusion television rental chain) and the latter having the better plans (but fewer resources). Yorkshire Television itself was formed via a 'shotgun marriage' between the aforementioned two applicant groups. It went on air on 29 July 1968 from purpose-built colour studios in Leeds, the first of their kind in Europe. It also has smaller district offices in Hull and Lincoln.

The county's name is commonly abbreviated as Yorks.

Within the borders of the historic county of Yorkshire are areas which are widely considered to be among the greenest in England, due to the vast stretches of unspoiled countryside in the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors and to the open aspect of some of the major cities. Yorkshire has sometimes been nicknamed God's Own County. The emblem of Yorkshire is the white rose of the English royal House of York, and the most commonly used flag representative of Yorkshire is the White Rose on a dark blue background, which after years of use, was recognised by the Flag Institute on 29 July 2008.Yorkshire Day, held on 1 August, is a celebration of the general culture of Yorkshire, ranging from its history to its own dialect.

Duncan Wood (24 March 1925 in Bristol, England – 11 January 1997) was a British comedy producer, director and writer. His best known achievements were to produce all of Tony Hancock's Half Hours for BBC TV during the late 1950s and early 1960s, and later, also with Hancock's former writers Ray Galton and Alan Simpson, the classic British sitcom Steptoe and Son for most of its run. He also produced the first series of The Bed-Sit Girl.

From 1972-73, he was the BBC's Head of Comedy, but left in 1973 to become Head of Light Entertainment at Yorkshire Television and was responsible for commissioning Rising Damp.

Christine Talbot is a British television journalist and presenter currently working for ITV Yorkshire as a main presenter for its flagship news programme Calendar.

Before joining YTV in 1994, Talbot worked on local newspapers in Lancashire. She then joined BBC North West as a presenter and reporter for North West Tonight. During her time at YTV, Talbot has worked on a number of regional programmes including the defunct magazine show Tonight and several documentary series including Is It Worth It?, Silent Killer and Xposed. She has also been nominated twice for the Royal Television Society's Best Presenter award in Yorkshire.

Since 2001, Talbot has been the main co-anchor of Calendar, currently alongside Duncan Wood. On 30 January 2012, it was announced on Calendar that Talbot had been diagnosed with breast cancer, and would be taking a break from the programme for treatment and recovery.

Kimberley Jane Walsh (born 20 November 1981) is an English singer-songwriter, dancer, model, television presenter and actress. She is best known for being a member of girl group Girls Aloud, formed through ITV's reality television programme Popstars: The Rivals. The group has achieved twenty consecutive top ten singles (including four number ones) in the UK, five studio albums have all been certified platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), two of which went to number one in the UK, and accumulating a total of five BRIT Award nominations.

Walsh fronts the 2009 Autumn/Winter collection for the fashion chain New Look. In July 2010, Walsh became a presenter on music talk-show, Suck My Pop. Walsh's net worth was estimated at £6 million in April 2012.

Walsh was born in Bradford to Diane and John Walsh. She grew up with elder sister Sally, younger brother Adam and younger sister Amy in the suburb of Allerton. Sally appeared on the soap opera, Emmerdale, between 1997 and 2000, playing the role of Lyn Hutchinson.
