"
Learning about gender and sex can seem intimidating at first: with so many terms used to identify nuances most people didn't even know existed, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. But by taking the time to learn and understand even just the basics, we're able to expand our worldview and understanding for different cultures.
Regardless of your own background, it is never not a good idea to learn more about how someone else lives. In this video, we'll cover the
difference between gender and sex, as well as some common words used to describe some of the more common categories in each group. While by no means an exhaustive discussion, this should give viewers a strong base for understanding."

About Katherine S., Sociology tutor on Chegg Tutors:
Boston University,
Class of 2016
Biology major
About me: As the oldest of five kids, helping my younger siblings to understand what they were learning was a part of growing up.
I've also found that I learn best by teaching, so a lot of the study sessions I have with my friends involve us trading off on the role of professor. More formally, I worked as an ecology instructor at a
YMCA camp the summer between my freshman and sophomore years of college. This was especially interesting because all the kids were from
China, so many of them didn't speak
English very well. I had to come up with creative ways to make sure everyone understood what they were learning. As also taught
CCD (
Catholic religious education) for four years to grades 1, 3, and 5. Although the program came with lesson plans, I was in charge
of making the material interesting and relevant for students, especially the fifth graders.
I hail from the tiny town of
Weatogue, CT, which is actually completely surrounded by
Simsbury, CT like a doughnut.
Outside of class I'm a big advocate for disability rights. I'm also passionate about making science more approachable for people, and I participate in an after school program that shows kids that science can be interesting.
