This is the brutal end for a lion which was shot dead after it escaped from a national park in Kenya and attacked a man.
The dark-maned lion was gunned down by the Kenya Wildlife Service after it was spotted roaming in the Kajiado district, 35 miles from the capital Nairobi.
Pictures show the trained ranger taking aim at the animal which crumples to the ground as shots are fired.
A mob had gathered around the lion, forcing the rangers to shoot it to avert further injuries, a spokesman for the Service said.
'It had injured somebody. There was a crowd that had formed around it, so it was practically impossible to capture it the way we planned to,' Paul Udoto, communications manager for the wildlife service said.
'The mob had formed and in the process somebody got injured, and by the time the veterinary and security teams got to the ground it was already beyond salvation,' Udoto said. 'With that commotion we risked more injuries or even possible deaths.'
Nairobi National Park lies on the city limits, providing visitors views of lions, rhinos, giraffes, zebras and other wildlife against a backdrop of high-rise buildings.
Lions are occasionally spotted in the city close to the park after they find a way through fences that protect the built-up areas near the reserve.
Onlookers had reportedly gathered to stare at the agitated animal, the fourth big cat to escape Nairobi National Park this year.
It was the second time someone had been injured by a lion in Kenya in under two weeks.
Udoto said the injured man had been taken to hospital and the animal shot 'after it (had) become wild'.
In previous incidents this year the lions have either been herded back to the 29,000-acre park or have returned of their own accord.
The reserve is almost surrounded by a fast-growing city of over three million people.
Earlier this month a 63-year old man was injured when a lion clawed at him close to a busy highway where motorists were honking their horns and snapping photographs and videos as they drove by.
The park is not entirely fenced to enable traditional migration by animals in search of grazing.
The big cats are under growing pressure as one of Africa's fastest growing cities expands onto ancient migration routes and hunting grounds.
Conservationists say lions lived there before people in the area and are not 'escaping' the park nor 'straying' into human settlements, rather people have moved into the lions' habitat.
In mid-February, two lions spent a day wandering through Kibera, a densely-packed city slum, before returning to the park, and days later more lions were spotted in town.

A lion has been shot dead after straying from a Kenyan national park and attacking a man outside Nairobi. The animal was killed by wildlife officials after it injured a man in the Kajiado district, some 35 miles from the Kenyan capital. Paul Udoto, a spokesman for the Kenya Wildlife Service, said he had no information about how seriously the man had been injured. The attack marks the second such incident involving a stray lion this month. On March 18, a lion mauled a pedestrian in Nairobi before being captured. Nairobi National Park, which covers 45 square miles on the outskirts of the city, is home to endangered black rhinos, lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes and diverse birdlife.

The hunt for at least six lions that escaped from the Nairobi National Park is still on. The lions are said to have strayed from the park into the areas around Lang’ata, Kibera and the southern by pass area. The search started at around 4 am this morning after some members of the public informed kws of spotting about 4 lions. The Kenya Wildlife Service has deployed ground and aerial personnel in the search. The hunt which took a break at 11:30 am resumes this evening at about 4 pm.

The Kenya Wildlife Service officers are currently tracking down six lions said to have strayed from the Nairobi National Park. According to Nelly Palmarys a senior warden at the park, the lions have been spotted by witnesses roaming and causing panic along the southern by-pass and in Langata Estate. KWS has appealed to the Public to provide information that would assist the team of officers on the hunting mission to track them down and return them to the park.

Nairobi is the most populous city in East Africa, with a current estimated population of about 3 million. According to the 2009 Census, in the administrative area of Nairobi, 3,138,295 inhabitants lived within 696 km2 (269 sq mi). Nairobi is currently the 12th largest city in Africa, including the population of its suburbs.

A national park is a reserve of natural, semi-natural, or developed land that a sovereign state declares or owns. Although individual nations designate their own national parks differently (for example, see Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in the United States), an international organization, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and its World Commission on Protected Areas, has defined National Parks as its category II type of protected areas. While ideas for this type of national park had been suggested previously, the United States established the first such one, Yellowstone National Park, in 1872. The largest national park in the world meeting the IUCN definition is the Northeast Greenland National Park, which was established in 1974. According to the IUCN, there were 6,555 national parks worldwide in 2006 that meet its criteria.

This is the brutal end for a lion which was shot dead after it escaped from a national park in Kenya and attacked a man. The dark-maned lion was gunned down by the Kenya Wildlife Service after it was spotted roaming in the Kajiado district, 35 miles from the capital Nairobi. Pictures show the trained ranger taking aim at the animal which crumples to the ground as shots are fired. The hunt for at least six lions that escaped from the Nairobi National Park is still on. The lions are said to have strayed from the park into the areas around Lang’ata, Kibera and the southern by pass area. Wandering lions return to the Nairobi National Park
Six lions that strayed from the Nairobi National Park and wandered into residential areas of Langata and Kibra slum terrifying residents are all now back safe in the Nairobi National Park. KWS officials have confirmed that five lions returned to the park, hours after they recaptured one at the Langata Barracks. Lions are occasionally spotted in the city close to the park after they find a way through fences that protect the built-up areas near the reserve.
Onlookers had reportedly gathered to stare at the agitated animal, the fourth big cat to escape Nairobi National Park this year.

The park is not entirely fenced to enable traditional migration by animals in search of grazing.

Conservationists say lions lived there before people in the area and are not 'escaping' the park nor 'straying' into human settlements, rather people have moved into the lions' habitat.
In mid-February, two lions spent a day wandering through Kibera, a densely-packed city slum, before returning to the park, and days later more lions were spotted in town.

In this film Wild Frontiers, Jonny Bealby, explains about tourism in Kenya. Here is the text...
Jonny here, right now I am at Borana Ranch, high on the Laikipia Plateau, in the lee of Mount Kenya. And in this short film I am going to talk about tourism in Kenya.
If I asked what's the first thing you think about when turning your mind to travel in this colourful East African country, you'd almost certainly say wildlife. And of course you'd be right as over 80 percent of holidays here will have a wildlife element.
From the Marsabit National Park in the north, to the Masai Mara and Amboseli National Parks in the south, the planes of Kenya are teeming with wildlife or all shapes and sizes offering, along with its neighbour Tanzania, the best place in the world to view game. And if you throw in Mount Kenya and the Aberdares, the Laikipia Plateau and the Matthews Range, the Lamu Archipelago and the rest of the Kenyan coast, and some of the most spectacular and evocative accommodation anywhere on earth, then here in Kenya you have a true world class travel experience.
The Masai Mara is probably the most famous national park. Covering more than 500sqm, the Mara is universally renowned for its exceptional populations of lion, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffalo and giraffe and for the famous migration of wildebeest that takes place every year from July to October.
But the Masai Mara is by no means the only show in town. Further to the east you have Amboseli National Park with its epic views of Kilimanjaro, to the north you have Samburu, Marsabit and Meru National Parks, and here on Laikipia, in the Lewa conservancy, where the savannah is awash with elephants, giraffe, the quirky Grevy zebra and a new and burgeoning population of black rhino.
And as for the accommodation, well that is quite simply out of this world. Yes, to get the best you're going to pay, but in our opinion the experience you'll enjoy and quality of service you'll receive -- plus of course the game you'll see -- does make this value for money. There is simply nothing else like it on earth. Among many amazing places to stay, my personal favourites are Else's Kopje in Meru, Saruni in Samburu, Richard's Camp or Serian in the Mara, and either Sabuk or Borana here on the Laikipia Plateau.
But tourism in Kenya is not only about wild animals. The Kenyan Coast, stretching all the way from Diani Beach in the south the Lamu archipelago in the north, with its white sand beaches and gentle turquoise seas -- particularly when the trade winds are blowing in the right direction from November through to March -- again coupled with some fabulous accommodation, combine to make this a truly world class beach experience.
And if you like to meet the people -- an important factor in most Wild Frontiers adventures -- there are plenty of opportunities, particularly at Sarara, in the Matthews Range, at Il Ngwesi north or Mount Kenya and here at Borana.
To get around there is are great quality land cruisers, a brilliant air service, either in scheduled flights or on private charters, a classic bi-plane, or if you really want to push the boat out and get to places few others can reach, a truly amazing helicopter service, run by our friends at Tropic Air.
A classic African safari is a travel experience like no other, and one that all travellers should do at least once in their lives. And for that, in my opinion, there's nowhere better than Kenya.

Among many amazing places to stay, my personal favourites are Else's Kopje in Meru, Saruni in Samburu, Richard's Camp or Serian in the Mara, and either Sabuk or Borana here on the Laikipia Plateau.
But tourism in Kenya is not only about wild animals. The Kenyan Coast, stretching all the way from Diani Beach in the south the Lamu archipelago in the north, with its white sand beaches and gentle turquoise seas -- particularly when the trade winds are blowing in the right direction from November through to March -- again coupled with some fabulous accommodation, combine to make this a truly world class beach experience.
And if you like to meet the people -- an important factor in most Wild Frontiers adventures -- there are plenty of opportunities, particularly at Sarara, in the Matthews Range, at Il Ngwesi north or Mount Kenya and here at Borana.
To get around there is are great quality land cruisers, a brilliant air service, either in scheduled flights or on private charters, a classic bi-plane, or if you really want to push the boat out and get to places few others can reach, a truly amazing helicopter service, run by our friends at Tropic Air.
A classic African safari is a travel experience like no other, and one that all travellers should do at least once in their lives. And for that, in my opinion, there's nowhere better than Kenya.

The local wildlife stays at a safe distance from the geysers of Lake Bogoria as the steaming hot springs can prove fatal for the flamingos and other water birds that live there. Nevertheless, quite often the bones of dead animals can be seen close to the geysers as some venture too close and are killed by the hot steam. At an altitude of nearly six thousand metres, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain on the African continent. For most of the time its summit is covered by a dense ring of cloud that gives the mountain an air of mystique. There are few other places on earth that offer the huge variety of nature as does the legendary east of the African continent. A magical destination and a wild natural paradise that is second to none!

Two explosions rocked Nairobi's open-air Gikomba market, about 2km east of the city's central business district on Friday, the National Disaster Operation Centre said. At least 10 people are reported to have died.
One improvised explosive device, or possibly, a grenade, detonated inside a 14-seater public minivan. A second explosion occurred within the crowded market itself.
The Kenyan Red Cross said five of its ambulances were dispatched to ferry injured people to hospitals. A spokesman for Kenyatta National Hospital, the city's main hospital, said more than 70 people had been admitted for treatment.
Reuters reports: "There was no immediate claim of responsibility. In the past such attacks have been widely blamed on the Somali Islamist militant group al Shabaab, which wants Kenyan troops out of Somalia and in September killed 67 people in an attack on a Nairobi shopping mall."
"The blasts came shortly after Kenya rebuked Britain, the United States, France and Australia for issuing travel warnings about the country and hundreds of tourists began leaving resorts along the Indian Ocean coast," the report continued.

A glass elevator transports visitors to a 167-metre high observation platform where the view across the city, harbor and bay is overwhelming.
The exciting Skytrain is the city's most popular means of transport, an ultra-modern train built on posts that zig zags its way through the city. Each of the city's most important destinations are easily accessible and it has reduced the city's traffic problems considerably.
For the World Exhibition of 1986, on the edge of Chinatown, gardeners and craftsmen from Suzhou, China established Canada's first classical Chinese garden, the Doctor Sun Yat Sen Garden. Its ponds, bridges and small pavilions are similar to those in China, masterpieces of Far Eastern garden design.
Everything in Vancouver is youthful, attractive and dynamic, a place in which Canadian politeness unites with the Pacific way of life!

The attack on the U.S. naval base was the ultimate reason that the United States eventually took part in the Second World War.
In winter, the most dedicated surfers collect on Sunset Beach to experience the world's most sought-after waves, some of which are as high as the tallest church steeples. Between Kawela Bay and Haleiwa, each winter the best surfers in the world meet for the Surfing World Championships.

The historic centre of Budapest is dominated by its noble castle that towers above the banks of the Danube. A 100 metre long cable railway that dates back to 1870 is both a practical and fascinating way to ascend the hill to the castle. Each day, the area around the castle, the Fischerbastel, that has never played a military role, attracts large numbers of tourists.
Margareten Island is set amid the Danube and is Budapest's vast entertainment area. It was at its most colorful during the Romantic period of the 18th and 19th centuries when it was a meeting place for poets, philosophers and artists. A small hotel was built for its creative community and it became an island of artists and dreamers.
In the area of the city called Pest, there is a splendid building with a mighty cupola, The Parliament, the city's main landmark and an important part of Hungary's historic past. In 1867, Buda and Pest were acknowledged by the Emperor as the seat of the Hungarian government with its own parliament. The building resembles London's Houses of Parliament.
Hungary is a fusion of two different cultural regions as indicated by its architecture and lifestyle and it is very much where the order of the Occident unites with the calmness of the Orient.

Margareten Island is set amid the Danube and is Budapest's vast entertainment area. It was at its most colorful during the Romantic period of the 18th and 19th centuries when it was a meeting place for poets, philosophers and artists. A small hotel was built for its creative community and it became an island of artists and dreamers.
In the area of the city called Pest, there is a splendid building with a mighty cupola, The Parliament, the city's main landmark and an important part of Hungary's historic past. In 1867, Buda and Pest were acknowledged by the Emperor as the seat of the Hungarian government with its own parliament. The building resembles London's Houses of Parliament.
Hungary is a fusion of two different cultural regions as indicated by its architecture and lifestyle and it is very much where the order of the Occident unites with the calmness of the Orient.

Limited tourism, a combination of untouched wilderness and the comfort and luxury of a handful of safari camps, makes this Africa’s model country. Our journey begins in nearby Zimbabwe that is located close to Botswana’s northern frontier at Victoria Falls that is undoubtedly one of the most impressive natural wonders in the world. Eighty kilometres west and we have crossed the Botswana border and arrive in the first large city in the north of the country, Kasane, that is located on the Chobe River and marks the country’s frontier with Namibia. In addition to growing tourism the fishing industry is also important to Kasane’s economy. The river contains an abundance of fish and so the local fishermen are provided with a good income to support their families. Since 1915 Ma-Un has been Botswana’s main city and until the beginning of the 1990s was only accessible via dusty gravel roads, a border town on the edge of a vast wilderness. The state run Moremi National Park that extends for around a hundred thousand hectares is the largest nature reserve in the Okavango Delta. It is located on Chief’s Island, the largest island in the region. In recent years further private wildlife reserves have been established that are well worth a visit and are also strictly controlled and protected natural habitats. Amid the African wilderness we arrive at a luxurious lodge that is not only the ideal starting point for many safaris but also provides a good degree of relaxation after an exhausting day out. Suddenly two members of the San Tribe approach the lodge. These ‘Bushmen’ will accompany us on our journey into the Kalahari Desert that is also their home. Elephant herds on the Chobe River, the vast wilderness of the Kalahari and the mystique of the Okavango Delta help to make Botswana one of the last great paradises on Earth!

We start our trip at Amboseli National Park, near Nairobi, staying at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge, taking a sunset and sunrise game drive. Then to Tsavo West National Park, staying at Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge and visiting Shetani Lava Flow and Mzima Springs, seeing Lions, Giraffes, Hippos, Zebras, Elephants and more! Then we Drive to Diani Beach, near Mombasa, staying at the Kole Kole Beach Resort, part of the Baobab Beach Resort. All guided by the excellent Pollman's Tours & Safaris guide, Aziz.
