HUME - BBC Documentary on John Hume 4
Hume is credited with being the thinker behind many of the recent political developments in Northern Ireland, from the power-sharing Sunningdale Agreement to the Anglo-Irish Agreement and the Belfast Agreement. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1998 alongside the then-leader of the Ulster Unionist Party, David Trimble. When David Trimble became First Minister it was expected that Hume would take the role of his deputy, being leader of the second largest party, the SDLP. Instead this role was handed to Seamus Mallon, also of the SDLP. Some political journalists cited a bad working relationship between Hume and Trimble despite collecting the Nobel prize with him. On his retirement from the leadership of the SDLP in 2001 he was praised across the political divide, even by his longtime opponent, fellow MP and MEP, the Rev. Ian Paisley, although Conor Cruise O'Brien, the Irish writer and former politician was a critic of Hume, for what he perceived as Hume's anti-Protestant bias. Hume was a never a typical nationalist though and he chose to play cricket rather than Gaelic games. He was a left arm spin bowler for the City of Derry cricket team when he was the only Catholic on the side. Even during The Troubles he was still welcome at the club. He was unusual in mixing socially with middle class Protestants which helped him later. Hume holds the Tip O'Neill Chair in Peace Studies at the University of Ulster, currently funded by The Ireland Funds. During the period when he was ...

Provie Birdie - Wolfhound {The Helicopter Song}
The song tells the story of the 1973 escape of three Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) prisoners from Dublin's Mountjoy Prison. On October 31 an IRA member hijacked a helicopter and forced the pilot to fly to Mountjoy where the three prisoners, JB O'Hagan, Seamus Twomey and Kevin Mallon, were lifted by helicopter from the exercise yard of Mountjoy Jail's D Wing at 3.40pm. The incident caused major embarrassment for the Cosgrave's government. JB O'Hagan, died April 2001, Seamus Twomey died After a long illness, in Dublin in 1989. Provie Birdie (Seamus Robinson) On the [G] last day of October in the [C] year of 73 In [D] Mountjoy jail three rebels were [G] longing to be free And from the skies surprise, surprise, an [C] iron bird did fall An [D] lifted up the Provos high [C] over the Dublin [G] wall [chorus] And it's up and up and higher the helicopter flew High over the Dublin spires and over the Liffey too The length and breadth of Ireland, no finer sight to see The day the Provie birdie released the Mountjoy three. The screws were all astounded they knew not what to do They just stood there dumbfounded as off our rebels flew And in the Dail the traitors were shocked and quite aghast As they looked up and noticed the Provos flying past. O'Hagan, Twomey, Mallon, God bless those gallant three And Britain she is furious as off our rebels flee But everywhere in Ireland wherever the news is heard The people cheer the Provos and their marvellous flying bird. HUME= BBC Documentary on John Hume 3
John Hume, KCSG (born 18 January 1937) is a former Irish politician from Derry, Northern Ireland. He was a founding member of the Social Democratic and Labour Party, and was co-recipient of the 1998 Nobel Peace Prize, with David Trimble. He was the second leader of the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP), a position he held from 1979 until 2001. He has served as a Member of the European Parliament and a Member of Parliament for Foyle, as well as a member of the Northern Ireland Assembly. He is regarded as one of the most important figures in the recent political history of Ireland and one of the architects of the Northern Ireland peace process there. He is also a recipient of the Gandhi Peace Prize and the Martin Luther King Award, the only recipient of the three major peace awards. In 2010 he was named "Ireland's Greatest" in a public poll by Irish national broadcaster RTÉ to find the greatest person in Ireland's history. In 2012, Pope Benedict XVI made Hume a Knight Commander of the Papal Order of St. Gregory the Great. Hume was active in the Nationalist Party in the early 1960s, but resigned in 1964, following the disinclination of many in the party to work with the National Political Front. Hume became an Independent Nationalist member of the Parliament of Northern Ireland in 1969 at the height of the civil rights campaign. He was elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly in 1973, and served as Minister of Commerce in the short-lived power-sharing government in ...

THE HELICOPTER SONG BY BEDOBOY
A VERY FUNNY SONG OF A FAMOUS INNOCENT IN MOUNTJOY PRISON FOR VARIOUS PEOPLE Background The song tells the story of the 1973 escape of three Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) prisoners from Dublin's Mountjoy Prison. The incident caused major embarrassment for the government. LYRICS Up like a bird and high over the city "Three men are missing" I heard the warder cry "Sure it must have been a bird that flew into the prison Or one of those new Ministers" said the warder from Mountjoy Early one evening as the branchmen they were sleeping A little helicopter flew in from the sky Down into the yard where some prisoners were walking "Get ready for inspection" said the warder in the Joy Down in the yard through the pushing and the shoving Three of the prisoners they climbed upon the bird And up and away they went into the grey skies "I think someone escaped" said the warder in the Joy Over in the Dail they were drinking gin and brandy The Minister for Justice was soaking up the sun Then came this little message that some prisoners were escaping "I think its three of the Provos" said the warder in the Joy "Search every hole search every nook and cranny Let no man rest until these men are found, For this cannot happen to a law and ...

The Helicopter song- The Wolfe Tones on Tinwhistle
me playing The Helicopter song- The Wolfe Tones on Tin Whistle some history on the song: 10/31/1973 members of the IRA in Mountjoy Irelnad, hijacked a Helicopter and made the pilot land in the exercise yard yard of a prison in the same area. before the huns (brits) could act 3 members of the PIRA climbed onto the helicopter and flew away never to be captured. There names: JB O' Hagan Seamus Twomey And Kevin Mallon One note i dont not support the IRA although i am proud of my people and my ancestors who fought and who are still fighting for their freedom. i dont agree with their methods but support their overall GOAL to free Ireland from the brits.

You Shook Me All Night Long_0001.wmv
This selection of live clips is of Fermanagh based rock band "Index". These clips are taken from a selection of videos taken in the early 1990's when the band where trying to make a name for themselves. This mixture of footage is taken from the video for their single "Dreaming Alone", shot in the the Multiplex Cinema in Enniskillen; footage during the same days filming for "Dance In The Summertime"; and clips from the final of the Heineken "Search For A Star" competition (1993 I think). The clips have been put together to the AC/DC classic "You Shook Me All Night Long", simply because it's a mighty feckin' tune!!!!!! The eagle eyed viewer will also notice that the clips show two different bass players - Sean Markey (he of the surfboard in the footage!!!) was a founder member of the band and the one responsible for the name (!) - Eustace Tierney was the second bass player who took over after Sean was in a serious car accident. Eustace had preciously played in bands with drummer Paul Jackman (who could ever remember, er I mean forget "Alibi" and the infamous LLT ("Lucifer's Left Testicle") and lead guitarist Mickey Mallon. Just thought I'd mention Seamus McMahon, the band's roadie/light man, who never missed a night with the lads...good man Plug, a MASSIVE AC/DC fan..this one's for you!!!

Bridget Rose Dugdale (born c. 1941), better known as Rose Dugdale, is a former debutante who rebelled against her wealthy upbringing, becoming a volunteer in the militant Irish republican organisation, the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA). As an IRA member, she took part in the theft of paintings worth IR£8 million and a bomb attack on a Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) station using a hijacked helicopter. Bold young Eddie came right out of North Donegal When the North was on fire and our backs were to the wall He fought along the border when the good men they were few And soon he was showing them just what he could do But the jackals in the Free State were selling us out again They were teaming up with England they were jailing our good men When Eddie got orders he led himself across And right into Portlaoise jail he was for the cause There he met with Kevin Mallon and they talked for a while And things that they told him caused him to smile Rita she has snuggled in some riddled dynamite And some of us Kevin will be going home tonight Then the screws and the governor they all turned in surprise But soon they were all choking with the dust all in their eyes And when the dust had settled it was much worse than they feared Through a hole in the wall 19 men disappeared Well he met a young women from England she came Her name it was Rose Dugdale, God she was game They stole a helicopter and turned in a mix And soon from the sky they were bombing the Brits Well the free ...
