I will compare design decisions between Elm and Elixir programming languages. Elm forces programmer to explicitly design all the flows in your program as a static one-way graph of dependencies between components. This makes it easy to debug and reason about programs. Erlang VM lets programmer create dynamic flows, which is a much more complex approach. I will show, how this is a direct consequence of langauge constraints (high availability and distribution) using CAP theorem. Elm doesn't have to deal with partitioning and a good practice is to keep all the state in one place. Everything is consistent and available, because there is no partitioning. Elixir has to be available and handle network splits, so it needs to deal with inconsistencies and dynamic flows. I will show how OTP design patterns make it easier for programmer to work with that problem.

Cowboy Bebop (カウボーイビバップ, Kaubōi Bibappu) is a Japanese animated television series. Directed by Shinichiro Watanabe and written by Keiko Nobumoto, Cowboy Bebop was produced by Sunrise. Consisting of 26 episodes, the series follows the adventures of a group of bounty hunters traveling on their spaceship, the Bebop, in the year 2071.
Cowboy Bebop was a commercial success both in Japan and international markets, notably in the United States. After this reception, Sony Pictures released a feature film, Knockin' on Heaven's Door to theaters worldwide and followed up with an international DVD release. Two manga adaptations were serialized in Kadokawa Shoten's Asuka Fantasy DX.
Cowboy Bebop has been strongly influenced by American music, especially the jazz movements of the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s and the early rock era of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Many of its action sequences, from space battles to hand-to-hand martial arts combat, are set and timed to music. Following the musical theme, episodes are called Sessions, and titles are often borrowed from album or song names (such as Sympathy for the Devil or My Funny Valentine), or make use of a genre name ("Mushroom Samba") indicating a given episode's musical theme.

How often do you find a back-end team jealous of the language the front-end team gets to use? Having modernized many legacy front-ends over the years, I can unequivocally say that introducing the Elm programming language to a rich web app (previously built on a mix of React.js and legacy jQuery) has yielded the most reliable, clean, and performant result I've ever seen. Elm's benefits to this mission-critical code have felt like the programming equivalent of the "After" photo in an infomercial.
In this talk attendees will learn how to cleanly introduce Elm into an existing JS front-end from start to finish. Highlights include Elm's Time-Traveling Debugger, its uncanny ability to catch nearly all runtime exceptions at build time (no more "undefined is not a function"), and a package manager that guarantees and automatically enforces semantic versioning for every package.

Elms are deciduous and semi-deciduous tree comprising the genus Ulmus in the plant family Ulmaceae. The dozens of species are found in temperate and tropical-montane regions of North America and Eurasia, ranging southward into Indonesia. Elms are components of many kinds of natural forests. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, many species and cultivars of elms were planted as ornamental street, lawn, and park trees in Europe, North America, and parts of the Southern Hemisphere, notably Australasia. Some individual elms have reached great size and age. In recent decades, many elms of European or North American origin have died from the Dutch elm disease, a beetle-dispersed fungus; in response, horticulturists have developed various kinds of disease-resistant elm trees, allowing the genus to be increasingly used again in horticulture and landscaping.
Elm leaves are alternate, with simple, single- or, most commonly, doubly-serrate margins, usually asymmetric at the base and acuminate at the apex. The genus is hermaphroditic, having apetalous perfect flowers which are mostly wind-pollinated, although bees do visit them. The fruit is a round wind-dispersed samara flushed with chlorophyll, facilitating photosynthesis before the leaves emerge. All species are tolerant of a wide range of soils and pH levels but, with few exceptions, demand good drainage.

Elm forces programmer to explicitly design all the flows in your program as a static one-way graph of dependencies between components. This makes it easy to debug and reason about programs. Having modernized many legacy front-ends over the years, I can unequivocally say that introducing the Elm programming language to a rich web app (previously built on a mix of React.js and legacy jQuery) has yielded the most reliable, clean, and performant result I've ever seen. Elm's benefits to this mission-critical code have felt like the programming equivalent of the "After" photo in an infomercial.
In this talk attendees will learn how to cleanly introduce Elm into an existing JS front-end from start to finish. Highlights include Elm's Time-Traveling Debugger, its uncanny ability to catch nearly all runtime exceptions at build time (no more "undefined is not a function"), and a package manager that guarantees and automatically enforces semantic versioning for every package.
