Miley Cyrus' New Tattoo Proves Her Deep Space Knowledge
Miley Cyrus knows more about the universe than you think. It's the rest of us who need to do our homework. When Cyrus debuted her latest body ink on Instagram on Tuesday with the caption "lil bb Jupiter," she immediately got some blowback from a few planetary haters.

As noted by E! Online, some commenters jumped on the caption to correct what they believed was Miley's astronomical mistake in labeling her new tattoo of a planet with a wide ring around it as Jupiter. Because, hello, it's Saturn that has rings, right? Fans wrote messages such as, "This is Saturn," and "I'm surprised she even knew it was a planet."
Others defended Cyrus, who was, indeed right. Though Saturn is best known for its luminous, icy rings, Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune also have rings. And as NASA has taught us, Saturn's rings were first spotted in 1610, while Jupiter's more faint rings weren't discovered until 1979 when the Voyager 1 spacecraft did a close fly-by.
As NASA notes, "Jupiter's ring system has three main components: a pair of very faint outer rings called the gossamer rings; a wide, flat main ring; and a thick inner ring called the halo. The rings appear to be created by dust thrown off by impacts on small moons."
Sadly, the astronohaters seemed to have gotten the best of Miley, who changed the caption to: permaaaa skinnnnn arrrrrttttt by daaaa mosssst bad a$$ @laurenwinzer ------------ #stonerasfuck."
Smilers definitely had her back. "Yep...I'm sure she got cyber bullied about it," wrote one. "As many have said Jupiter DOES have rings but they're mostly dust and debris and aren't that visible. This is deeeeef Saturn lol."
