The political left hated him for saying communism was the anti-Christ; Christians said he was anti-Christ; to most, he was a conman who used religion to get rich, a brainwasher of young people, a nut-case who claimed to chat with the dead, a man who broke up families, who had a factory that made weapons, who wanted to control the White House, and maybe take over the world. The presenter of one weekly religion program on normally sober BBC once did a report on Moon dressed in a flak jacket and sporting an M16.
Satisfied with this media interpretation, society failed to ask the right questions about what Moon stood for and whether he was really that dangerous. As a result, even democracies put him on the black list with known terrorists. He was banned for decades from Japan and most European countries.
If his story presents an unflattering example of how most societies are incapable of handling heretics in a dignified and democratic manner, it is also a modern example of the ancient phenomenon of how religion is born.

Sun Myung Moon (Korean 문선명; born Mun Yong-myeong; 25 February 1920 -- 3 September 2012) was a Korean religious leader, business magnate and media mogul. A self-proclaimed messiah, Moon was the founder of the Unification Church and of its widely noted "Blessing" or mass wedding ceremony. Moon's extensive business interests included News World Communications, an international news media corporation which founded The Washington Times and owns other media in several countries, and Tongil Group, a South Korean business group (chaebol) active in manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, tourism, and publishing.
Born in what is now North Korea, Moon and his family converted to Christianity when he was a child. In 1954, he founded the Unification Church in Seoul, South Korea based on conservative, family-oriented teachings from new interpretations of the Bible. Moon outlined these principles in his book, Explanation of the Divine Principle. In the 1960s and 1970s, Moon was a leading figure in a wave of new religious movements that raised controversy on several issues. Followers, who were then sometimes called "Moonies", considered Moon their True Father while critics labeled him a cult leader.

On June 1, 1976, Korean evangelist Reverend Sun Myung Moon stood before a half-filled Yankee Stadium and declared, "The world has lost faith in America, and New York has become a jungle of immorality and depravity." He went on to nominate himself as the cure: "Ladies and gentlemen, if there is illness in your home, do you not need a doctor from outside?"
The atmosphere was chaotic. "Youths hurled programs and decorations, let loose balloons from an upper tier and ran through the corridors shouting and laughing," the New York Times reported the next day. "Firecrackers and what appeared to be a smoke bomb added to the confusion."
The rally was the culmination of an intense promotional campaign which included the acquisition of a massive hotel, the New Yorker, as the impromptu headquarters. Renamed the "World Mission Center," the hotel went on to play a central role in the Unification Church for many years.
Meanwhile, Moon's "God Bless America" campaign rolled on into Washington, D.C. Speaking from the base of the Washington Monument on Sept. 18, 1976, with his covetous eyes on the Capitol building just one mile distant, Moon proclaimed the supreme importance of his Unification Church: "Judaism was God's first central religion, and Christianity was the second. The Unification Church is the third, coming with the new revelation that will fulfil the final chapter of God's Providence." However, he warned: "The menace of communism is everywhere." If America did not quickly embrace God's new revelation, he implied, that great nation would also be engulfed.
For their part, Moon's followers believed the Washington Monument rally was just the beginning of a sudden transformation of America, and millions would flock to study Moon's new revelation. Ultimately, they prayed for the election of a president who would be totally obedient to the religious leader.
This had been Moon's goal from the beginning. In a speech given to church leaders on May 17, 1973, he declared, "But in our age, we must have an automatic theocracy to rule the world. Separation between religion and politics is what Satan likes most." (Church members now claim that this is a poor translation of Moon's words; more likely it was just uncomfortably frank).

Sun Myung Moon (Korean 문선명 Mun Seon-myeong; born Mun Yong-myeong; 25 February 1920 – 3 September 2012) was a Korean religious leader, businessperson, political activist, and media mogul. He was an ardent anti-communist and advocate for Korean reunification, for which he was recognized by the governments of both South and North Korea. His business interests included News World Communications, an international news media corporation known for its American subsidiary The Washington Times, and Tongil Group, a South Korean business group (chaebol), as well as various affiliated organizations.
Moon was born in what is now North Korea. When he was a child, his family converted to Christianity. In 1947 he was convicted by the North Korean government of spying for South Korea and given a five-year sentence to the Hŭngnam labor camp. In 1954, he founded the Unification Church in Seoul, South Korea based on conservative, family-oriented teachings from new interpretations of the Bible. In 1971, he moved to the United States and became well-known after giving a series of public speeches on his beliefs. In the 1982 case United States v. Sun Myung Moon he was charged by the United States government with willfully filing false federal income tax returns, found guilty in a jury trial, and sentenced to 18 months in federal prison. His case generated protests from clergy and civil libertarians.

The Rev
James Owen Sullivan (February 9, 1981 – December 28, 2009), professionally known by his stage name The Rev (shortened version of The Reverend Tholomew Plague), was an American musician, composer and songwriter, best known as the drummer, composer, songwriter, co-lead vocalist and founding member for the American heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold. The Rev was widely regarded and critically acclaimed for his work on Avenged Sevenfold albums, and contributed entire songs written and composed by himself, such as Chapter Four, Afterlife, "A Little Piece of Heaven" and Almost Easy. He was also the lead vocalist/pianist in Pinkly Smooth, a side project where he was known by the name Rathead, with fellow Avenged Sevenfold member and childhood best friend, guitarist Synyster Gates, and he was the drummer for Suburban Legends from 1998 to 1999.
Career
Sullivan grew up and lived in Orange County, CA. He received his first pair of drum sticks at the age of five and own drum set at the age of ten. In high school, he started playing in bands. Before leaving to join Avenged Sevenfold as one of the band's founding members, Sullivan was the drummer for the third wave ska band Suburban Legends. At the age of twenty he recorded his first album with Avenged Sevenfold titled Sounding the Seventh Trumpet. His early influences included Frank Zappa and King Crimson. The Rev said in a Modern Drummer Magazine interview that "I was raised on that stuff as much as rock and metal."

Sun Myung Moon (Korean 문선명; born Mun Yong-myeong; 25 February 1920 -- 3 September 2012) was a Korean religious leader, business magnate and media mogul. A self-proclaimed messiah, Moon was the founder of the Unification Church and of its widely noted "Blessing" or mass wedding ceremony. Moon's extensive business interests included News World Communications, an international news media corporation which founded The Washington Times and owns other media in several countries, and Tongil Group, a South Korean business group (chaebol) active in manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, tourism, and publishing.
Born in what is now North Korea, Moon and his family converted to Christianity when he was a child. In 1954, he founded the Unification Church in Seoul, South Korea based on conservative, family-oriented teachings from new interpretations of the Bible. Moon outlined these principles in his book, Explanation of the Divine Principle. In the 1960s and 1970s, Moon was a leading figure in a wave of new religious movements that raised controversy on several issues. Followers, who were then sometimes called "Moonies", considered Moon their True Father while critics labeled him a cult leader.

On June 1, 1976, Korean evangelist Reverend Sun Myung Moon stood before a half-filled Yankee Stadium and declared, "The world has lost faith in America, and New York has become a jungle of immorality and depravity." He went on to nominate himself as the cure: "Ladies and gentlemen, if there is illness in your home, do you not need a doctor from outside?"
The atmosphere was chaotic. "Youths hurled programs and decorations, let loose balloons from an upper tier and ran through the corridors shouting and laughing," the New York Times reported the next day. "Firecrackers and what appeared to be a smoke bomb added to the confusion."
The rally was the culmination of an intense promotional campaign which included the acquisition of a massive hotel, the New Yorker, as the impromptu headquarters. Renamed the "World Mission Center," the hotel went on to play a central role in the Unification Church for many years.
Meanwhile, Moon's "God Bless America" campaign rolled on into Washington, D.C. Speaking from the base of the Washington Monument on Sept. 18, 1976, with his covetous eyes on the Capitol building just one mile distant, Moon proclaimed the supreme importance of his Unification Church: "Judaism was God's first central religion, and Christianity was the second. The Unification Church is the third, coming with the new revelation that will fulfil the final chapter of God's Providence." However, he warned: "The menace of communism is everywhere." If America did not quickly embrace God's new revelation, he implied, that great nation would also be engulfed.
For their part, Moon's followers believed the Washington Monument rally was just the beginning of a sudden transformation of America, and millions would flock to study Moon's new revelation. Ultimately, they prayed for the election of a president who would be totally obedient to the religious leader.
This had been Moon's goal from the beginning. In a speech given to church leaders on May 17, 1973, he declared, "But in our age, we must have an automatic theocracy to rule the world. Separation between religion and politics is what Satan likes most." (Church members now claim that this is a poor translation of Moon's words; more likely it was just uncomfortably frank).

The book "The tragedy of the 6 Marys" was a collaborative effort between some of the earliest followers of Rev Sun Myung Moon, that became apostates and decided to tell the hidden history of the Unification Church. Rev Moon taught the practice of a sexual ritual called pikareum. Rev Moon believed that through a sinless man having sex with another woman, that original sin could be removed and the woman could bear children born without original sin. The book "The tragedy of the 6 Marys" was a collaborative effort between some of the earliest followers of Rev Sun Myung Moon, that became apostates and decided to tell the hidden history of the Unification Church. Rev Moon taught the practice of a sexual ritual called pikareum. Rev Moon believed that through a sinless man having sex with another woman, that original sin could be removed and the woman could bear children born without original sin. Rev Moon believes he is that sinless man, and while exact figures are absent, he has certainly cleansed many wombs and fathered more children than he is officially credited.This clip is an excerpt from a Japanese documentary in 1994, interviewing the 5 contributors to the book published the year before in Japan. Mr Chung Hwa Pak later retracted, finding a conflict maybe between his honesty and loyalty. Hyo Min Eu, also interviewed here, said that he and Mr Pak were offered money to recant their claims in the book. Following the retraction by Chung Hwa Pak, Mr Eu arranged for the book to be re-published in Korea avoiding the withdrawn copyrights that Pak owned, by using his own photography rather than the Japanese version. A rough English translation is in circulation online. In this video one of Rev Moons earliest woman followers testifies that Rev Moon practiced the first of 3 ritual sex acts with her. The ritual, over a period of 3 days, is still practiced in the Unification Church in a diluted form, when church members first come together in sexual union, and it is now called "the 3 day ceremony". Moon's "Church" #2- Divine Principle or Satanic Paradigm," "Rev. Moon's "Church" #3- Moon's god Versus the Triune God," & "Rev. Moon's "Church" #4- Semantic Deception- Moon is Not the Son." This entire series is currently posted on YOUTUBE (enter "Larry Wessels Moonstruck"). Moonies are particularly active around centers of higher learning such as universities and colleges. Austin has many such institutions so this series was helpful in reaching the many students attending there by way of the public access television channel.
