Brenda Holloway (born June 26, 1946) is an American singer and songwriter, who was a recording artist for Motown Records during the 1960s. Her best-known recordings are the soul hits, "Every Little Bit Hurts", "When I'm Gone", and "You've Made Me So Very Happy." The latter, which she co-wrote, was later widely popularized when it became a Top Ten hit for Blood, Sweat & Tears. She left Motown after four years, at the age of 22, and largely retired from the music industry until the 1990s, after her recordings had become popular on the British "Northern soul" scene.
She was born in Atascadero, California on June 26, 1946, the eldest of three children to Wade and Johnnie Mae (Fossett) Holloway. In 1948, she and her infant brother, Wade, Jr., moved with their parents to the Watts section of Los Angeles where her sister, Patrice, was born in 1951. Brenda took up violin, flute and piano and sang in her church choir, as well as developing a love of classical music. At the age of 14, Brenda began working on demonstration records and singing backup for Los Angeles-based R&B acts, and with the young Patrice.
Brenda is a feminine given name in the English language.
The origin of the name is uncertain, but it may be derived from a Scandinavian language, rather than a Celtic language like the similarly-spelt masculine given name Brendan. It is possible that Brenda may be derived in part from the Old Norse element brand, meaning "(flaming) sword".
Prior to the 20th century, Brenda was primarily used in Ireland and Scotland, later it became popular in England. Its use in the Gaelic-speaking countries is attributed to the similar, although likely etymologically unrelated, masculine name Brendan.
"Brenda" is used as a nickname for Queen Elizabeth II by the satirical magazine Private Eye. The comedian Stanley Baxter played the "Duchess of Brenda", a character loosely based on the Queen.
A hollow way is literally a sunken lane. Holloway may refer to:
"Little Bit" is a song by Swedish recording artist Lykke Li from her debut album, Youth Novels (2008). Produced by Björn Yttling of Peter Bjorn and John and co-produced by Lasse Mårtén, the track was released in Sweden on 24 September 2007 as the album's lead single. It was included on the soundtrack to the HBO series Bored to Death, while a snippet of the song was used in the commercial for Victoria's Secret Ipex bra starring Heidi Klum. Also, rapper Charles Hamilton sampled the song on his track Starchasers from his mixtape It's Charles Hamilton. Canadian singer Drake remixed the song for his 2009 mixtape So Far Gone.
I'm Off (French: Je m'en vais) is a 1999 novel by the French writer Jean Echenoz. It is also known as I'm Gone. It received the Prix Goncourt.

In 1964, Brenda Holloway signed with Motown and had a big hit with "Every Little Bit Hurts." However, she had first recorded the song two years earlier on Bob Keane's Del-Fi label. Here now is Ms. Holloway's little-heard 1962 original of "Every Little Bit Hurts."

In the hurly burly of this busy world, simple kindness and goodness can get left behind in the rush to be first in line, climb to the top of the corporate ladder or have the most "likes." But at the end of the day, what does it all mean? Isn't being a good person and making real contributions to the world more important than anything else? Author Brenda Knight, part of the team who made the world a better place with "Random Acts of Kindness" as well as a little more thankful with The Grateful Table, writes: "At the end of life, I feel sure having lots of money, fancy cars and real estate is not nearly as important as how much love you gave to the world." This realization was the inspiration for Be a Good in the World: 365 Days of Good Deeds, Inspired Ideas and Acts of Kindness, a book of ...

The group's first album is basically a reflection of their early repertoire and very heavy on the R&B;/soul standards. Dominated by covers of Ike & Tina Turner, the Coasters, John Lee Hooker, Little Walter, Brenda Holloway, and others, only three of the tunes are original. Two of these are written by Stevie Winwood, the other by Spencer Davis; Winwood's mid-tempo soul number "It Hurts Me So" is easily the best of them. Winwood is in fine voice and the group is energetic, but this is neither as good as their best work nor nearly as good as the best British R&B; albums of the era by competitors like Them and the Rolling Stones. Includes their first two British singles, "Dimples" and "I Can't Stand It." Tracklisting: 1. My Babe (Hatfield, Medley) 00:00 2. Dimples (Hooker, Bracken) 02:36 3. S...

Solo recordings have been used sparingly as Flo only recorded one album worth of songs for ABC Records (whilst pregnant) after leaving Motown in 1968 (after her firing from The Supremes in '67), whereas Diana and M...

New work in English from a Tijuana poet, critic and artist. With graduate poet Dimiter Kenarov. Introduced by UC Berkeley Ethnic Studies Graduate student, Jennifer Reimer. Heriberto Yepez is a native of Tijuana, Baja California. He teaches philosophy at the Autonomous University of Baja California (AUBC) and his poetry, as well as his critical and theoretical writings, shows the influence of his philosophical interests, his interest in information systems, and his engagements with cultural clash, as well as cultural theory. Yepez' work is not easily confined within generic boundaries, and his collaborations with other artists and academics reveals an intellecutal and creative fluency in multiple...

I lost at love before
Gave up and closed the door
But you said try just once more
I chose you for the one
Now I'm having so much fun
You treated me so kind
I'm about to lose my mind
You made me so very happy
I'm so glad you came into my life
The others were untrue
But when it came to you
I'd spend my whole life with you
'Cause you came and took control
You touched my very soul
You always showed me that
Loving you is where it's at
You made me so very happy
I'm so glad you came into my life
You made me so very happy
I'm so glad you came into my life
I love you so much it seems
That you're even in my dreams
I can hear you calling me
I'm so in love with you
All I ever want to do
Is just thank you, baby
Thank you, thank you, baby
You made me so very happy
I'm so glad you came into my life
You made me so very happy
I'm so glad you came into my life
Thank you, baby
You made me so very happy
I'm so glad you came into my life
One more time now
You made me so very happy
