Criminal justice is the system of practices and institutions of governments directed at upholding social control, deterring and mitigating crime, or sanctioning those who violate laws with criminal penalties and rehabilitation efforts. Those accused of crime have some protections against abuse of investigatory and prosecution powers.
In the United States, criminal justice policy has been guided by the 1967 President's Commission on Law Enforcement and Administration of Justice, which issued a ground-breaking report "The Challenge of Crime in a Free Society". This report made more than 200 recommendations as part of a comprehensive approach toward the prevention and fighting of crime. Some of those recommendations found their way into the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968. The Commission advocated a "systems" approach to criminal justice, with improved coordination among law enforcement, courts, and correctional agencies. The President's Commission defined the criminal justice system as the means for society to "enforce the standards of conduct necessary to protect individuals and the community."
Monty Python (sometimes known as The Pythons) were a British surreal comedy group who created the sketch comedy show Monty Python's Flying Circus, that first aired on the BBC on 5 October 1969. Forty-five episodes were made over four seasons. The Python phenomenon developed from the television series into something larger in scope and impact, spawning touring stage shows, films, numerous albums, several books, and a stage musical. The group's influence on comedy has been compared to The Beatles' influence on music.
Broadcast by the BBC between 1969 and 1974, Flying Circus was conceived, written, and performed by its members Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin. Loosely structured as a sketch show, but with an innovative stream-of-consciousness approach (aided by Gilliam's animation), it pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable in style and content. A self-contained comedy team responsible for both writing and performing their work, the Pythons had creative control which allowed them to experiment with form and content, discarding rules of television comedy. Their influence on British comedy has been apparent for years, while in North America, it has coloured the work of cult performers from the early editions of Saturday Night Live through to more recent absurdist trends in television comedy. "Pythonesque" has entered the English lexicon as a result.

At trial, the prosecution successfully applied to the Judge, Ouseley J, for large parts of the case to be heard ‘in camera’ (closed hearing). The appellant's attempt to appeal the Order to the Court of Appeal was unsuccessful. He was ultimately found guilty of murder and his appeal against conviction was also unsuccessful. He now seeks to make an application to the European Court of Human Rights on the basis that holding parts of his trial in secret was a breach of his rights under art.6 ECHR. In February 2014, Ouseley J refused to vary the Order to permit th...

The scales of justice only tip 1 way in the UK. unless your lucky! Had the pleasure of not Christopher Moss as I made a mistake but actually a new QC Judge that had just started in June 2007 who's responsibility was to take high profile murder cases and serious terrorism cases! His initials are P.W! When the jury believe you and not the victims/witnesses , he gets the right hump and undermines the juror's by abusing his authority and directly insults them!!!! and he gets away with it cause no member of the jury are going to complain are they!!!! I think now he sits in court no, 16! there is only 1 judge with the initials P.W!!!! Trust me....BEWARE!!!! Don't believe me then contact the first 12 Juror's who were at my first trial who were honest and never fell for the court's corruptness!!!...
In July 2007, O’Reilly was found guilty by a Central Criminal Court jury and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife at their home in the Naul, Co Dublin. Rachel O’Reilly’s badly beaten body was found in the bedroom of her home by her mother on October 4th, 2004 and in the intervening period O’Reilly had appeared as a guest on the topic of her death on RTÉ’s Late Late Show. Speaking on behalf of the Court of Appeal, Mr Justice George Birmingham said it was an “unacceptable strategy” to raise the arguments O’Reilly had raised at this point. O’Reilly’s application was based on events that occurred on the third day of his Central Criminal Court trial when a portion of the book of evidence was found in the jury room, the judge said. It was clear, from the way in which the iss...

Of the five cases currently being reviewed by the International Criminal Court (ICC), all are based on alleged war crimes committed in African countries. The list of countries involved in ongoing trials includes Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Central African Republic, Kenya and, most recently, Sudan. Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo, the first prosecutor for the ICC spoke at the Woodrow Wilson Center on September 15 at an event organized by the Africa Program of the Wilson Center, Amnesty International and Citizens for Global Solutions.
Crimes before the ICTY: Central Bosnia, is a film about some of the gravest crimes committed against civilians during the Croat – Muslim conflict in Central Bosnia between early 1993 and early 1994. Investigations into alleged crimes committed by both sides began while the conflict was still ongoing, and led to the issuance of some of the Tribunal’s first indictments.
José Luis Moreno-Ocampo is Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), a position he has held since 2003. In this role, Moreno-Ocampo investigates and prosecutes the most serious crimes of concern to the international community, namely genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. His current investigations include into the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Darfur (the Sudan), the Central African Republic, Kenya and Libya. In addition to his contribution to the ICC, Moreno-Ocampo's distinguished career as an international prosecutor has includes his roles as deputy prosecutor in the 1985 "military junta trials" in Argentina (the first high-profile case against alleged mass atrocities since the Nuremberg Trials), pro-bono work for international NGOs and as a Profess...
South Africa says the International Criminal Court is anti-Africa and has threatened to pull out. The African Union however says it is up to individual nations to make their independent choices. So, does the continent need the ICC? And how can justice can be served in the court's absence.
This is an absorbing memoir of an inmate's experiences and impressions while in a London prison. He describes himself as "a man of education and worldly experience" and weighing "19 stone 13 lbs" (279 lbs), a stone being 14 lbs, at the beginning of his imprisonment but not upon his release. The author writes with a reporter's keen perception and a talented novelist's ability to engage and at times amuse the reader. Is our criminal justice fair? That's been one of the central questions among Minnesota lawmakers as they figure out how to deal with a growing prison population that is disproportionately made up of minorities. That fairness question is also at the center of a Netflix documentary series called "Making a Murder", which is about the case of murdered photographer Teresa Halbach in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin. The documentary series has generated great discussion about all elements of our criminal justice system. So several legislators invited the defense attorney in the case to come speak in Minnesota. Dean Strang was a defense attorney for Steven Avery who was ultimately convicted of murder. Strang discusses the case, talks about the underfunding of public defenders, suggests legislators r...
