Oriente Petrolero

Club Deportivo Oriente Petrolero is a Bolivian football club based in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Founded on November 5, 1955 in Camiri, Bolivia by workers of the Bolivian oil company (YPFB). They play at the 38,000-capacity Estadio Tahuichi Aguilera. Oriente have been Bolivian champions four times, Copa Aerosur winners two times. They have also been successful in South America, by being the second Bolivian team to make the Quarter-Finals in Copa Libertadores.

The club had their first major success in 1979, when they won the league championship. Oriente Petrolero won several cup competitions during the 1980s, but after that did not win another major title until 1989. The past decade has been the most successful period in Oriente's history, capped by winning La Liga titles in 2001, and 2010.

They have a longstanding rivalry with fellow Santa Cruz team Blooming.

History

While still in the Association of Santa Cruz was cut amateur club was formed on the basis of a neighborhood team called 'Oriente', composed solely of employees of YPFB of the Central District. Was 5 November 1955, became its first president Elmer Saucedo Parada.

Tucumán Province

Tucumán (Spanish pronunciation: [tukuˈman]) is the most densely populated, and the smallest by land area, of the provinces of Argentina. Located in the northwest of the country, the province has the capital of San Miguel de Tucumán, often shortened to Tucumán. Neighboring provinces are, clockwise from the north: Salta, Santiago del Estero and Catamarca. It is nicknamed El Jardín de la República (The Garden of the Republic), as it is a highly productive agricultural area.

Etymology

The word Tucumán probably originated from the Quechua languages. It may represent a deformation of the term Yucumán, which denotes the "place of origin of several rivers". It can also be a deformation of the word Tucma, which means "the end of things". Before Spanish colonization, the region lay in the outer limits of the Inca empire.

History

Before the Spanish colonization, this land was inhabited by the Diaguitas, who practiced agriculture.

In 1533 Diego de Almagro explored the Argentine Northwest, including Tucumán. In 1549 the Peruvian governor Pedro de la Gasca granted Juan Núñez de Prado the territory of Tucumán. Prado established the first Spanish settlement at the town of Barco on the Dulce River. Prado named his province "Tucumán" after Tucumamahao, one of the leaders of the local people who formed an alliance with him. In 1552 Francisco de Aguirre was dispatched to take possession of the territory for Chile. Aguirre followed a repressive policy, triggering a rebellion by the native people. Outnumbered, the colonists were forced to move in 1553 to a new location, where they founded the town of Santiago del Estero.

Atlético Tucumán

Club Atlético Tucumán (mostly known as Atlético Tucumán) is an Argentinian football club based in the city of San Miguel de Tucumán of Tucumán Province. Although several sports are practised at the club, Atlético is mostly known for its football team, which currently plays in the Primera División, the first division of the Argentine football league system.

Other activities hosted by the institution are basketball, chess, field hockey, handball and karate-do.

History

The club was founded in 1902, which makes Atlético the oldest football club from the province of Tucumán.

Atlético has participated in nine seasons in the Primera division: eight seasons between 1973 and 1981, and a single season in 1984. The team's best ever performance in Primera División was on 1979, when reached the semi-finals of the Torneo Nacional.

In 2008 Atlético Tucumán promoted to the Argentine 2nd Division after defeating Racing de Córdoba in the final game of Torneo Argentino A, and one year later the squad achieved its 2nd consecutive promotion by winning the B Nacional tournament and reaching the Primera División.

Copa Sudamericana

The Copa Sudamericana (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈkopa suðameɾiˈkana]; Portuguese: Copa Sul-Americana [ˈkɔpɐ ˈsuw ɐmeɾiˈkɐnɐ]) is an annual international club football competition organized by the CONMEBOL since 2002. It is the second most prestigious club competition in South American football. CONCACAF clubs were invited between 2004 and 2008. The Copa Sudamerican began in 2002, replacing the separate competitions Copa Merconorte and Copa Mercosur (that before replaced Copa Conmebol) by a single competition. Since its introduction, the competition has been a pure elimination tournament with the number of rounds and teams varying from year to year.

The Copa Sudamericana is considered a merger of defunct tournaments such as the Copa CONMEBOL, Copa Mercosur and Copa Merconorte. The winner of the Copa Sudamericana becomes eligible to play in the Recopa Sudamericana. They also gain entry onto the next edition of the Copa Libertadores, South America's premier club competition. They also contest the Suruga Bank Championship.

2017 Copa Sudamericana

The 2017 Copa Sudamericana (Portuguese: 2017 Copa Sul-Americana) will be the 16th edition of the Copa Sudamericana, South America's secondary club football tournament organized by CONMEBOL. The winner will qualify for the 2018 Copa Libertadores, the 2018 Recopa Sudamericana, and the 2018 Suruga Bank Championship.
