An empty net goal, or colloquially an empty netter (abbreviated as EN or ENG), occurs in ice hockey when a team scores a goal into a net with no goaltender (goalie) present. This usually occurs in one of two different occasions:
The Nashville Predators are a professional ice hockey team based in Nashville, Tennessee. They are members of the Central Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Predators joined the NHL as an expansion team in the 1998–99 season, and play their home games at Bridgestone Arena.
In late 1995, rumors began to circulate that the New Jersey Devils would be relocating to the planned Nashville Arena. Nashville offered a $20 million relocation bonus to any team that would relocate and the Devils attempted to terminate their lease with New Jersey before finally restructuring it to stay put.
After the attempt to get the Devils, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman noted that Nashville would probably at least be considered in upcoming expansion. The arena was opened in 1996, and after an attempt to bring the National Basketball Association (NBA)'s Sacramento Kings did not go through, the city instead went after a hockey team.
Game 6 (stylized as Game6) is a 2005 American film directed by Michael Hoffman, first presented at the Sundance Film Festival, released in the United States in 2006, and starring Michael Keaton. It follows a fictional playwright, Nicky Rogan, on the day he has a new stage play opening which is also the same day as the sixth game of the 1986 World Series is played. It realizes a 1991 screenplay by Don DeLillo, with a soundtrack written and performed by Yo La Tengo.
Nicky Rogan has written several plays and has achieved success. It is now opening night of his latest effort, and all around him assure him that this one will be the best yet. But as opening hour approaches, Rogan falls prey to doubts and fears, egged on by another playwright whose last work was trashed by the local newspaper's new drama critic, Steven Schwimmer. He eventually lets those fears drive him to adopt a resolve to kill the critic (who he assumes will also trash his play), and he procures a handgun with which to perform the deed.
Patrik Štefan (born September 16, 1980) is a Czech retired professional ice hockey player who was drafted 1st overall by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. At the NHL level, Štefan is regarded by some as one of the greatest draft busts in league history.
Prior to being drafted by the Thrashers, Štefan played for HC Sparta Praha in the Czech Republic, and the Long Beach Ice Dogs of the IHL.
Štefan played six seasons for the Atlanta Thrashers scoring 177 points. During the 2004–05 NHL lockout, Štefan played for Ilves Tampere in the SM-liiga. In 37 games, Štefan collected a total of 41 points including 28 assists. In the playoffs, Štefan had six assists and a goal in seven games.
On June 24, 2006, Štefan was traded to the Dallas Stars along with Jaroslav Modrý for Niko Kapanen and a 7th round draft pick in 2006.
Štefan earned significant notoriety when he missed and fell on a breakaway towards an empty net against the Edmonton Oilers on January 4, 2007, which allowed a play to develop where fellow Czech Aleš Hemský scored with two seconds remaining to send the game to overtime. The Edmonton goal tied the game 5-5, but Dallas then won 6-5 in a shootout. Coincidentally, Hemsky plays for the Stars as of the 2015-16 season.

Follow my YouTube video updates on Twitter. http://twitter.com/HockeyWebCast Patrik Stefan could only guess how many times it will be shown around the world today, this week, this year and for the rest of time in hockey history. "They may show it a million times for years to come," he guessed. Stefan was moving about the speed of a glacier, skating to the crease on his way to scoring an empty-net goal which would have iced a 6-4 win by the Dallas Stars over the Edmonton Oilers. He was in the paint of the crease, inches from putting the puck in the net... Then it happened. A play you've never seen before and will probably never see again. A play which will be shown untold times. Unbelievably, the puck jumped over Stefan's stick. He missed the net! All the Stars players had quit on t...
