ABOUT SIR KUSH GENESIS-------------
Born in
England, of Jamaican parents, Kush has been involved in the entertainment/music industry since the age of 15years.
As a
Percussionist he plays a diverse range of styles. His ability to learn
Latin, African, and
Caribbean riddims, earned him the reputation as being one of
Master Drummer coming out of
Luton, England.
One of the biggest accomplishments came when the Man Ezeke and the
Aqua Vita band where invited to
Monte Carlo by
Princess Grace of Monaco to do 3 consecutive summer seasons, supporting acts like
Frank Sinatra,
Tina Turner,
Cher,
Shirley Bassey,
Ben Vereen, (
Chicken George in
Roots) to name a few.
The band continued to spend 8 consecutive years travelling
Europe,
Africa &
India.
Upon his return Kush took time out to form his
Group "The
Luton African Drummers" and The "
Kushite Drummers" Kush developed himself to become a poet, a chanter and rousing
Empowerment speaker. With the group they also toured the UK, performing at events which required the "
Drum Call"
Some of the most honourable moments of doing drum calls/libation was for scholars who came to the UK from US, such as
Dr John Hendrick Clarke, Dr Rev Ishakamusa Barashango, Dr
Leonard Jefferies, Dr Khalid
Muhammed, Dr
Tony Martin, Bro
Ashra Kwesi, Dr
Ivan van Sertma, to name but a few.
Freelance work included working with record producers like
The Mad Professor from
Awira, The
Famous Lee Scratch Perry,
Papa Levi,
Prince Malachi to name but a few.
Amongst other things Kush works with 3 bands in the UK,
International Band Elements, a
London based steel band quartet Panache, and a local roots rock reggae band called Nu-breeze.
With all the experience Kush was gathering the freelance work also took him into
Prisons, where he spent numerous years using his life experiences and the music to teach literary skills, self esteem, confidence building, teamwork skills, awareness of self and culture.
Between
2005 &
2012, he was contracted as a
Broadcast journalist for
BBC 3 Counties Radio Studio based in Luton. His show Nubian Beat was broadcasted every Sunday 6pm -8pm. The magazine type show consisted of 50% talk & discussion, and 50% music, tackled a diverse range of subjects from relationships, to
Police stop and search matters etc, and would look at these subjects not only locally but nationally and internationally. The show often included live guest in the studio, and phone links from Jamaica US,
Gambia,
Ethiopia,
Canada, and others.
Kush along with other members of the
Lewisham Way
Black Fathers
Support Group raised funds to build the New Lamin
Nursery school of excellence which opened in
January 2012. Before the opening,
The Group supported 50 children to receive free education from teachers at the "
Princess Diana of Wales School" in the
Kololi region of Gambia.
At the end of 2012, Kush along with 74 other
Britons received Honourary
Citizenship in
The Gambia.
