Russian athletes and gold medallists at the
Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics Alexander Zubkov and Alexander Zubkov dismissed allegations that they doped during the
Games at press conference in
Moscow, Friday.
SOT,
Yuri Nagornykh,
Deputy Minister of
Sport (Russian): "There has never been and there is not any doping programme in Russian sport.
In Russia we did not conduct any doping programme before the
Olympics and during the Olympics in
Sochi. But we had a preparation programme, and these journalists who have seen how our athletes were preparing for the Olympics remember very clearly that in
2010, the
Ministry of Sport and
Winter Sports Federation conducted huge work to evaluate our performance in
Vancouver, to understand our reserves and opportunities in a short time frames for sports, in four years to improve a lot of sports, so we could be competitive in Sochi."
SOT,
Alexander Legkov, men's cross country skiing gold medallist,
Sochi 2014 (Russian): "I had a lot of wins, almost won all the tournaments. So, I always was under the control.
And I did many doping tests in
Switzerland,
Italy, and
Germany where I was in training camps. It is great that I have done so, and international professionals also recommended me this - as I began to train with them, I started to save all my doping tests in the folder. I have it with me right now: it is until 2014 and after 2014, exactly after the Olympics, I finished the season, I won all prizes after the
Olympic Games."
SOT, Alexander Legkov, men's cross country skiing gold medalist, Sochi 2014 (Russian): "I am totally calm for my self. I trained honestly, took the medals and my victory, it is very difficult, hard, it was mine and merited, and clear."
SOT, Alexander Zubkov, men's bobsled gold medallist, Sochi 2014 (Russian): "Because in
Turin, Vancouver, there bronze and silver, there were a lot of prizes. In my sports career I won everything that I could in this sport, that was in all tournaments, including Russian, international, I did the tests a lot of times, as in
RUSADA, as in international
WADA that came and tool all the tests that I did. And there was no evidence that I was taking any kind of drugs. So, these statements without any documents, I think just are nonsense."
