Andrew Allan Clyde, known as Andy Clyde (March 25, 1892 — May 18, 1967), was a Scottish film and television actor whose career spanned more than four decades. In 1921 he broke into silent films as a Mack Sennett comic, debuting in "On a Summer Day". He was the fifth of six children of theatrical actor, producer and manager John Clyde. Clyde's brother David and his sister Jean also became screen actors.
Although Andy Clyde's movie career spanned 34 years, he may be best known for his work in two long-running television series: as the farmer Cully Wilson in CBS's Lassie and as the neighbor, George MacMichael, on ABC's The Real McCoys. Coincidentally, the number of appearances in these series was identical: 29 episodes each.
In 1912, Clyde first came to the United States on tour in a company performing a play called The Concealed Bed. Years later, at the invitation of his close friend James Finlayson, he returned to the United States in 1920 to join producer Mack Sennett's roster of comedians.

Genres: Comedy, Short,From 1956, here's Andy Clyde's final Columbia two-reeler. This is just my opinion, but I find this short much better than the original sources it's reworked from (Andy's GO CHASE YOURSELF from 1948 and the earlier Charley Chase effort THE NIGHTSHIRT BANDIT (1938). Featuring Dudley Dickerson, Joe "Fake Shemp" Palma, Symona Boniface and plenty of stock footage from the earlier shorts this is a remake off. Directed by Jules White.
Released theatrically on 11/20/1947. Co-starring Christine McIntyre, Dick Wessel, Lucille Brown, Emil Sitka. Directed by Edward Bernds. Remade as BLONDE ATOM BOMB 4 years later.
Another 16mm rarity from Columbia with Andy Clyde. Enjoy!
Here's Part 1 of an extremely rare Columbia two-reeler starring Andy Clyde called LODGE NIGHT, which comes off as a cross between Laurel and Hardy's BLOTTO and SONS OF THE DESERT, with a little bit of the Marx Brothers DUCK SOUP and A NIGHT AT THE OPERA thrown in. It's still a lot of fun. Enjoy!!!
Rare Columbia short starring Andy Clyde. This print was found in England, and was not a part of the 1959 Screen Gems television package. Enjoy!

A wonderful episode featuring Andy Clyde ("Mr. Cully" from the Timmy and Lassie years) as Ben, an old miner, who nurses a cow back to health and then refuses to give it up to the cattle rancher that owns it. There is no mistaking that wonderful acting of Andy Clyde, and it probably was wished by more than me that he would be returned as a semi-regular character to the Lassie and Ranger Stuart years. Alas, it wasn't to be as the wonderful and loveable Andy Clyde died the following year in May 1967 after 4 decades performing on the stage and screen, and delighting audiences young and old. So enjoy this episode as a wonderful reminder of this great old character actor from the old Timmy and Cully and Lassie days, now with a forest ranger standing in as Lassie's new owner. NOTE: Lassie and t...

Zany, fast paced conclusion to Andy Clyde's LODGE NIGHT
Before he rejoined the Three Stooges team in 1947, Shemp Howard had his own solo 2-reeler comedy series at Columbia Pictures. This 1945 release doesn't have much of a story...inventor Tom Kennedy moves next door to 'human horsefly' Shemp, who proceeds to make his life miserable in a series of wacky slapstick encounters. If you like Shemp you'll like this flick, because it's all Shemp from start to finish! He's clearly having a good time here and who wouldn't, getting to work alongside babes like Christine McIntyre and Rebel Randall. I especially like the Jonathan Winters-like vocal sound effects Shemp emits at a couple of points. Produced at the Hugh McCollum unit, directed by Harry Edwards, co-written by Ed Bernds.

Clyde Bruckman took the script from the WC Fields feature THE MAN ON THE FLYING TRAPEZE and condensed it into two-reels for Andy Clyde at Columbia. An earlier version of the story was set to be another Fields short at Mack Sennett. It was eventually made as TOO MANY HIGHBALLS with Lloyd Hamilton. Clyde Bruckman was credited as director, and Fields served as the (uncredited) writer.
