Mihkel Harilaid, also known as Mike Harilaid, is the CEO and Executive Producer of Black Walk, a Canadian feature film and television production company.
Harilaid began his career in real estate development and management and in 1992 founded Black Walk Corporation, a Canadian film and television production company, with David Fowler and Stephen Scott. He became and remains the CEO and Executive Producer for the company.
Starting his production career in music videos, Harilaid produced over 500 clips. Harilaid and Black Walk worked with Alanis Morissette, Hootie & the Blowfish, and Shaggy.
Harilaid decided to shift the focus of Black Walk to feature films. In 2002 he released his second feature film Ham and Cheese. This was followed with Phil the Alien, premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival. Harilaid executive produced Two Hands to Mouth, his second feature with Director Michael DeCarlo, which premiered at the Madrid International Film Festival.
Dark Rising: Warrior of Worlds, a continuation of the Dark Rising franchise, was aired on SuperChannel in the summer of 2014. Written by Harilaid and Andrew Cymek, the project stars Brigitte Kingsley and Jacob Blair.
The Harilaid Peninsula is a peninsula on the northwest coast of the island of Saaremaa in Estonia. It should not be confused with the islet of Harilaid which lies between the islands of Vormsi and Hiiumaa.
Harilaid covers an area of 4.5 km2 (1.7 sq mi) and is low lying (the highest elevation is 4.6 m (15 ft)). It is connected to the mainland by a 300-metre (980 ft) wide neck of land, and was a separate island until the end of the 17th century.
Large numbers of birds stop on Harilaid on their migration route, and there is a resting site of grey seals on the west coast. There is a large pine plantation on the peninsula, started in the 1970s and inhabited by elk and wild boar. The peninsula was added to the Vilsandi National Park in 1993.
There is no record of a settled population on the peninsula. The Kiipsaare lighthouse was built at the tip of the peninsula in 1933. At that time the lighthouse was almost 100 metres (330 ft) inland, but it is now a few metres offshore. It is now unused, and has a pronounced lean as a result of erosion. The Estonian war film Somnambuul was shot there in 2004.
Dark Rising is a science fiction comedy franchise created by Andrew Cymek and adapted for film and television by Mihkel Harilaid. The original film, Dark Rising: Bring Your Battle Axe, was released in 2007 and featured the introduction of Summer Vale.
The story was brought to television as Dark Rising: The Savage Tales of Summer Vale (2011) but shortly returned to feature film with Dark Rising: Summer Strikes Back (2011). Mihkel Harilaid of Black Walk Films leads the series' production as Executive Producer and each component has been directed by Andrew Cymek of Defiant Empire Films.
The franchise is once again in production of a one-hour drama series, Dark Rising: Warrior of Worlds, set for release in 2013 in co-operation with Mar Vista Entertainment. The series was picked up by Super Channel 1 in Canada and started on July 20.
There are two Earths. Our Earth, the one we know and love, and Dark Earth, a world of demons and magic, a dimension created at the height of the Roman Empire in an attempt by a powerful sorcerer to banish demons from this world forever.
