Why Skopjans are not Macedonians:
1. GEOGRAPHICALLY
The biggest part of King Philip's ancient Macedonia was mainly in Greece. Geographically there are 2 more Macedonians as part of Bulgaria and Skopje, but no important historic event took place there. Not to mention that the area above Skopje was never part of the Greek Macedonia. Where as Macedonian history took place in Greece (Pella, Vergina etc.).
2. ETHNOLOGICALLY
They use Cyrillic Bulgarian alphabet but they are Slavs that came in the area after the 6th century aC. Kyro Gligorov, their ex president admitted this.
They used a Slavobulgarian dialect that they named as "Macedonian language", a thing that doesn't exist. Based upon this fake language they name themselves Macedonians.
The truth is that they are Slavish people speaking a Bulgarian dialect.
3. HISTORICALLY
Their unhistorical arguments of a connection to ancient Macedonia and a discrimination between ancient Greeks and ancient totally fail and is a product of Propaganda. Historically and culturally Slavs have nothing to do with ancient Macedonia, which history began 1000 years before they came in the Balcanic area. I don't have to mention that Alexander was Greek, spoke Greek and all Macedonian is without any doubt Greek.
"We do not claim to be descendants of Alexander the Great...we are Slavs and we speak a Slav language." Ljubica Achevska,2001.
"We are not related to the northern Greeks who produced leaders like Philip and Alexander the Great. We are a Slav people and our language is closely related to Bulgarian." He also commented, "There is some confusion about the identity of the people of my country." Gyordan Veselinov,1999.
"We are Slavs who came to this area in the sixth century ... we are not descendants of the ancient Macedonians" Kiro Gligorov,1992, same year he added: "We are Macedonians but we are Slav Macedonians. That's who we are! We have no connection to Alexander the Greek and his Macedonia... Our ancestors came here in the 5th and 6th century"

A landlocked country, the Republic of Macedonia is bordered by Kosovo to the northwest, Serbia to the north, Bulgaria to the east, Greece to the south, and Albania to the west. It constitutes approximately the northwestern third of the larger geographical region of Macedonia, which also comprises the neighbouring parts of northern Greece and a smaller portion in southwestern Bulgaria. The country's capital is Skopje, with 506,926 inhabitants according to the 2002 census. Other cities include Bitola, Kumanovo, Prilep, Tetovo, Ohrid, Veles, Štip, Kočani, Gostivar, Kavadarci, and Strumica. It has over 50 lakes, plus sixteen mountains higher than 2,000 m (6,562 ft). Macedonia is a member of the UN and of the Council of Europe. Since December 2005 it has also been a candidate for joining the European Union and has applied for NATO membership.

Why Skopjans are not Macedonians:
1. GEOGRAPHICALLY
The biggest part of King Philip's ancient Macedonia was mainly in Greece. Geographically there are 2 more Macedonians as part of Bulgaria and Skopje, but no important historic event took place there. Not to mention that the area above Skopje was never part of the Greek Macedonia. Where as Macedonian history took place in Greece (Pella, Vergina etc.).
2. ETHNOLOGICALLY
They use Cyrillic Bulgarian alphabet but they are Slavs that came in the area after the 6th century aC. Kyro Gligorov, their ex president admitted this.
They used a Slavobulgarian dialect that they named as "Macedonian language", a thing that doesn't exist. Based upon this fake language they name themselves Macedonians.
The truth is that they are Slavish people speaking a Bulgarian dialect.
3. HISTORICALLY
Their unhistorical arguments of a connection to ancient Macedonia and a discrimination between ancient Greeks and ancient totally fail and is a product of Propaganda. Historically and culturally Slavs have nothing to do with ancient Macedonia, which history began 1000 years before they came in the Balcanic area. I don't have to mention that Alexander was Greek, spoke Greek and all Macedonian is without any doubt Greek.
"We do not claim to be descendants of Alexander the Great...we are Slavs and we speak a Slav language." Ljubica Achevska,2001.
"We are not related to the northern Greeks who produced leaders like Philip and Alexander the Great. We are a Slav people and our language is closely related to Bulgarian." He also commented, "There is some confusion about the identity of the people of my country." Gyordan Veselinov,1999.
"We are Slavs who came to this area in the sixth century ... we are not descendants of the ancient Macedonians" Kiro Gligorov,1992, same year he added: "We are Macedonians but we are Slav Macedonians. That's who we are! We have no connection to Alexander the Greek and his Macedonia... Our ancestors came here in the 5th and 6th century"

The mediaeval frescos on the walls and ceilings are well preserved after five centuries. Southwest of Prilep is the ancient city of Stibera that is also known as Macedonian Pompeii. It is in a good location on an important road. The last Macedonian king, Perseus, had his military headquarters in Stibera during his struggles with Rome. In the south, just a few kilometres from the Greek border, is Bitola, at the foot of Pelister Mountain and on the edge of the fertile Pelagonija Plains. Buildings with Neo-Baroque and Renaissance facades, huge mosques and splendid diplomatic residences indicate the city’s importance. Macedonia is a wild land full of natural splendour and with a long and dramatic history that is well worth more than just a flying visit. Indeed, this visit also features a Galička wedding that is a fine example of colourful tradition and local culture.

Skopje is the capital of Macedonia and is located in the valley of the Vardar River with a dramatic history that spans many thousands of years. It forms the junction of two trading routes in southeast Europe that unites both western and eastern civilisation. The legacy of Ottoman times is omnipresent in Skopje. One of the city’s most well-preserved mosques is that of the Gazi-Isisa-Bey Djamia. In the seventeenth century it is believed that there were up to a hundred and twenty mosques in Skopje. Between the city’s mosques is the last surviving monastery in the centre of Skopje, Sveti Spas, with a fine church and wooden bell tower. Both monastery and church were built before the time of the Ottomans and eventually they had to be reduced in size because no other religious building was allowed to be larger than a mosque. The historic stone bridge of Kameni Most spans the river Vardar and unites two city districts and also the Muslim world with that of the Christian Orthodox. The massive two hundred and fourteen metre long stone bridge was built in the late fifteenth century under the rule of Sultan Mehmet the Second. In Ottoman times the bridge was a place of execution where rebels were executed in public. Skopje has become a symbol of fraternity and solidarity. A prospering city at the south-eastern end of the world!

I would like today, from here, from Idomeni, to send a message all around Europe, that it is exactly the moment for everybody to show solidarity and responsibility, the two basic principles upon which the European project is built. All our values are in danger today, and you can see it here in Idomeni.
I believe that by building fences, by deploying barbed wires, it is not a solution. We have to work together, member states of the EU but also neighbouring countries in order to address this issue in the best way with full respect to all those who are here, fleeing persecution, dictatorship and terrorism.
The situation here is tragic, but all these people must understand that they must listen to the authorities and follow legal ways in order to achieve their goal to reach one day a safe haven. Unfortunately they are exploited by ruthless smugglers ; they shouldn't believe in what they tell them. Just some kilometres from here, there are organised camps, and the authorities are doing their best in order to provide these people with their support. (...)
But Europe is here, and as I said before, from the very first moment, we set up a policy in order to address this issue: we have our migration policy, we have our action plans against smugglers, and of course we have adopted ALL together the relocation mechanism that MUST WORK IMMEDIATELY. So, I call on member states to provide us with more pledges and start implementing immediately this plan. Our Target is to be in a position to relocate 6,000 people per week, and we work very hard in order to achieve it. (...)"

I would like today, from here, from Idomeni, to send a message all around Europe, that it is exactly the moment for everybody to show solidarity and responsibility, the two basic principles upon which the European project is built. All our values are in danger today, and you can see it here in Idomeni.
I believe that by building fences, by deploying barbed wires, it is not a solution. We have to work together, member states of the EU but also neighbouring countries in order to address this issue in the best way with full respect to all those who are here, fleeing persecution, dictatorship and terrorism.
The situation here is tragic, but all these people must understand that they must listen to the authorities and follow legal ways in order to achieve their goal to reach one day a safe haven. Unfortunately they are exploited by ruthless smugglers ; they shouldn't believe in what they tell them. Just some kilometres from here, there are organised camps, and the authorities are doing their best in order to provide these people with their support. (...)
But Europe is here, and as I said before, from the very first moment, we set up a policy in order to address this issue: we have our migration policy, we have our action plans against smugglers, and of course we have adopted ALL together the relocation mechanism that MUST WORK IMMEDIATELY. So, I call on member states to provide us with more pledges and start implementing immediately this plan. Our Target is to be in a position to relocate 6,000 people per week, and we work very hard in order to achieve it. (...)"

The territory of Skopje has been inhabited since at least 4000 BC; remains of Neolithic settlements have been found within the old Kale Fortress that overlooks the modern city centre. On the eve of the 1st century AD, the settlement was seized by the Romans and became a military camp.
When the Roman Empire was divided into eastern and western halves in 395 AD, Scupi came under Byzantine rule from Constantinople. During much of the early medieval period, the town was contested between the Byzantines and the Bulgarian Empire, whose capital it was between 972 and 992. From 1282, the town was part of the Serbian Empire and acted as its capital city from 1346. In 1392, the city was conquered by the Ottoman Turks who renamed the town Üsküp. The town stayed under Ottoman control over 500 years, serving as the capital of pashasanjak of Üsküb and later the Vilayet of Kosovo. At that time the city was famous for its oriental architecture.
In 1912, it was annexed by the Kingdom of Serbia during the Balkan Wars and after the First World War the city became part of the newly formed Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (Kingdom of Yugoslavia).
In the Second World War the city was conquered by the Bulgarian Army, which was part of Axis powers.
In 1944, it became the capital city of Democratic Macedonia (later Socialist Republic of Macedonia), which was a federal state, part of Democratic Federal Yugoslavia (later Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia).
The city developed rapidly after World War II, but this trend was interrupted in 1963 when it was hit by a disastrous earthquake.
