"Your Precious Love" is a popular song that was a 1967 hit for Motown singers Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. Written by Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson and produced by Harvey Fuqua and Johnny Bristol, the doo-wop styled recording features background vocals by Fuqua, Gaye, Terrell and Bristol, and instrumentals by The Funk Brothers with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. The song peaked at #5 on Billboard Pop Singles chart, #2 on Billboard's R&B Singles chart, and the top 40 on Billboard's Easy Listening survey. The song was later sampled by Gerald Levert on the song, "Your Smile", on his 2002 album, The G Spot.
Al Jarreau and Randy Crawford performed the song live at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1981, backed by an All-Star ensemble featuring Larry Carlton, David Sanborn and Marcus Miller and the Yellowjackets, released on Casino Lights. In 1984, father Neil Sedaka and daughter Dara Sedaka reached the Billboard Top 15 of the Adult Contemporary chart with their duet cover version of the song. Japanese pop star Seiko Matsuda also covered the song for her 1996 English language album Was It the Future. A cover version by D'Angelo and Erykah Badu was released on the High School High soundtrack album in 1996, as well as featured on the 1999 tribute album Marvin Is 60. There was also an a cappella cover of the song by Cedric the Entertainer and Avant figures in a gag sequence in the 2004 MGM film Barbershop 2: Back in Business. Another cover of the song was recorded by Peter Cox of Go West and Easther Bennett of Eternal and appears on Cox's 2006 album Motor City Music (Curb Records). Sarah Connor recorded the song as an overdubbed "duet" with Marvin Gaye on her 2007 album Soulicious. Fantasia Barrino included a sample of the song on "Collard Greens and Cornbread" from her 2010 album Back to Me.

Jerry Butler, Jr. (born December 8, 1939) is an American soul singer and songwriter. He is also noted as being the original lead singer of the famed R&B vocal group the Impressions, as well as a 1991 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee. Butler is also an American politician. He serves as a Commissioner for Cook County, Illinois, having first been elected in 1985. As a member of this 17-member county board, he chairs the Health and Hospitals Committee, and serves as Vice Chair of the Construction Committee.
Butler was born in Sunflower, Mississippi in 1939. The mid-1950s had a profound impact on Butler's life. He grew up poor, having lived in Chicago's Cabrini–Green housing complex. Music and the church provided solace from a the poverty of the slums he lived in, and difficulties of a predominantly segregated society. He performed in a church choir with Curtis Mayfield. As a teenager, Butler sang in a gospel quartet called Northern Jubilee Gospel Singers, along with Mayfield. Mayfield, a guitar player, became the lone instrumentalist for the six-member Roosters group, which later became The Impressions. Inspired by Sam Cooke and the Soul Stirrers, the Five Blind Boys of Mississippi, and the Pilgrim Travelers, getting into the music industry seemed inevitable.
Tammi Terrell (born Thomasina Winifred Montgomery; April 29, 1945 – March 16, 1970) was an American recording artist, best known as a star singer for Motown Records during the 1960s, most notably for a series of duets with singer Marvin Gaye.
Terrell's career began as a teenager, first recording for Scepter/Wand Records, before spending nearly two years as a member of James Brown's Revue, recording for Brown's Try Me label. After a period attending college, Terrell recorded briefly for Checker Records, before signing with Motown in 1965.
With Gaye, Terrell scored seven Top 40 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" and "You're All I Need to Get By". Terrell's career was interrupted when she collapsed into Gaye's arms as the two performed at a concert at Hampden–Sydney College on October 14, 1967, with Terrell later being diagnosed with a brain tumor. She had eight unsuccessful surgeries before succumbing to the illness on March 16, 1970 at the age of 24.

Every day there's something new
Honey, to keep me lovin' you
And with every passing minute
Oh baby, so much joy wrapped up in it
Oh heaven must have sent you from above
Oh heaven must have sent your precious love
Oh and now I've got a song to sing
Tellin' the world about the joy you bring
And you gave me a reason for living
And ooh you taught me
You taught me the meaning of giving
Oh heaven must have sent you from above
Oh heaven must have sent your precious love
Oh to find a love like yours is rare these days
'Cause you've shown me what happiness is
In so many ways
I look in the mirror and I'm glad to see
Laughter in the eyes where tears used to be
What you've given me I could never return
'Cause there's so much
Girl, I've yet to learn
And I wanna show, I wanna show
My appreciation
'Cause when I found you
I found a new inspiration
Oh heaven must have sent you from above
