So you guys, I don't mean to offend anybody or sound whiny/ungrateful in this video, but I'm afraid it will come out that way. If you're not in the mood to hear "me tales of woe" or you don't like a bit of controversy, then skip to about 11:30
I need to
point out a few things that came out wrong while I was riding:
1. I don't mean to bash on anybody with big numbers in big videos. I need to apologize to
Jonathan (Sova) for going off on him in a chat about video numbers.
Sometimes I get pretty fired up. Mr. Duhfactor pointed out that while video numbers are a bit irrelevant/trivial to most YouTubers. For me, it's what puts food on the table. I tend to get a bit sensitive about it. Poor numbers to me equate to expired cereal, ramen noodles, and PB&Js; for my family for the next month. When it comes to YouTube numbers, it is what it is. I think everybody with a channel knows that sometimes videos that we think will do well totally flop, while videos we just post randomly (with garbage content) do extremely well.
I'll have to maintain the position that Youtube's algorithm is garbage, and promotes some of the worst videos out there
... with no shares, subsribers driven, likes, or even comments to back up the "success" of these videos. If only there was an algorithm that found out how much effort was put into a video? ;)
2. I sound like I don't want to send stickers in this video.
Truth is, I'm happy to send stickers. I did some "financials" and calculated that we're out about $
1000 with all the stickers we've sent. At about $1.20+ for an international stamp, that cost will go way up when we send out nearly
200 more international stickers. I'm trying to find a way to send the international stickers that doesn't mean hot dogs and ramen noodles for the family this summer.
It's time to get very real, though... but here's a precursor:
It urks me when people make "money ultimatums" where they say, "This is all over if money bla bla." The truth is that I will always work on these channels, have fun riding bikes, and do my best to help others join this awesome dual sporting community. However, it's just the law of economics.
If I have no income, I can't continue doing as much for the channel as I currently do*. So I'm not asking for donations or Patreon (although I think those things are fine), I'm simply asking those who have received stickers to please use the links on everide.org... better yet, if you're reading this, just take 20 seconds to click and favorite
http://everide.org/amazon http://everide.org/ebay http://everide.org/cyclegear http://everide.org/RMATVMC and http://everide.org/motorcyclesuperstore
That's a win for everybody. These companies get to be the go-to stores on your browser, you support the channel, and save some dough in the process without spending anything.
So here's the * from above... people have asked why I'm only releasing one video per week. I decided (and YouTube analytics are pretty clear) that 1 good video a week actually gets more subscribers, more views, and less subscriber burn-out than 2 mediocre videos per week. So time that used to be spent creating 2 videos is now spent creating 1 video... with much of the time going into responding to messages, comments, and writing.
Yes, writing. More on that later.
Anyway this is a long description. If you've read this far, you deserve a trophy and a man-hug. I can't do much about the trophy, but if you're ever in
Utah, you can count on a man-hug. :)
