Micke Bjorklof & Blue Strip has a well-established name in Finland, their native home base in Northern Europe. After six years await the band is now back with a new album "After The Flood", their first International release.
"After The Flood", New Orleans sessions
After several years of planning and talking about making an album in New Orleans, it finally came true. Already inspired and influenced by the sounds originating from New Orleans, Micke Bjorklof & Blue Strip journeyed to the Crescent City to record their fifth, and most ambitious album yet: "After The Flood." A milestone in the band's career, "After The Flood" features 12 original songs is a contagious mix of groovy rockin' guitar-oriented Blues with some "fonky" New Orleans rhythm and soul thrown in to add spice to the recipe. Recorded at the celebrated Piety Street Studio, and produced by Mark Bingham, known for his work with Dr. John, John Mooney, various members of the illustrious Neville family, Tab Benoit, John Scofield, Elvis Costello & Allen Toussaint etc.This new album is important landmark for this band having over 20 years touring and recording career in the business. After having a break from touring, the exciting process of writing songs and putting the material together for this album was really inspiring for the band. The goal has always been throughout their entire recording career to come out with something fresh and new, rather looking forward than back, this record is no exception. It was pretty clear from the start that compared to the earlier releases that the direction would this time be towards more percussive/rhythmic and guitar orientated material sounding darker and edgy.

On April 7, 2011, The Slade Gorton International Policy Center hosted a roundtable discussion on "U.S. Defense Strategy in the Asia-Pacific" with featured guest Admiral Thomas Fargo. Also attending the discussion were representatives from the Japanese Consulate, local business leaders, non-profit executives, and local students.
Admiral Fargo had a distinguished thirty-five year career in the U.S. Navy, which culminated in his position as Commander of the U.S. Pacific Command (PACOM) from May 2002 to February 2005. Admiral Fargo was the senior U.S. military commander in Asia responsible for joint operations of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force across PACOM's 100 million mile area of responsibility.
Adm. Fargo holds the John M. Shalikashvili Chair in National Security Studies at The National Bureau of Asian Research.

Pundits and prognosticators often surmise that today’s musicians and composers are living in an era of unparalleled opportunity. While it’s safe to say that musicians’ access to the marketplace has greatly improved, thanks to digital sales, social media, YouTube and the like, how have these changes impacted musicians’ ability to generate revenue based on their creative work? Almost all analyses of the effects of these changes rest purely on assumptions that they have improved musicians’ bottom lines. We hear often from record labels, music services, publishers, and entrepreneurs about the state of the music industry. After several years of planning and talking about making an album in New Orleans, it finally came true. Already inspired and influenced by the sounds originating from New Orleans, Micke Bjorklof & Blue Strip journeyed to the Crescent City to record their fifth, and most ambitious album yet: "After The Flood." A milestone in the band's career, "After The Flood" features 12 original songs is a contagious mix of groovy rockin' guitar-oriented Blues with some "fonky" New Orleans rhythm and soul thrown in to add spice to the recipe. Recorded at the celebrated Piety Street Studio, and produced by Mark Bingham, known for his work with Dr. John, John Mooney, various members of the illustrious Neville family, Tab Benoit, John Scofield, Elvis Costello & Allen Toussaint etc.This new album is important landmark for this band having over 20 years touring and recording career in the business. After having a break from touring, the exciting process of writing songs and putting the material together for this album was really inspiring for the band. The goal has always been throughout their entire recording career to come out with something fresh and new, rather looking forward than back, this record is no exception. It was pretty clear from the start that compared to the earlier releases that the direction would this time be towards more percussive/rhythmic and guitar orientated material sounding darker and edgy.

Also attending the discussion were representatives from the Japanese Consulate, local business leaders, non-profit executives, and local students.
Admiral Fargo had a distinguished thirty-five year career in the U.S. Navy, which culminated in his position as Commander of the U.S. Pacific Command (PACOM) from May 2002 to February 2005. Admiral Fargo was the senior U.S. military commander in Asia responsible for joint operations of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force across PACOM's 100 million mile area of responsibility.
Adm. Fargo holds the John M. Shalikashvili Chair in National Security Studies at The National Bureau of Asian Research.
