Description: "Egon Schiele was a famous Austrian painter, famous for being influenced by the works of Gustav Klimt and pioneering into the art of expressionism. He is still remembered for his outrageously bold and sexual drawings, the portraits of nude models and himself. The sexual undertone in his work was highly criticized during his time, was called vulgar and grotesque but today they are considered as masterpieces. He was born and brought up in Austria and lived all of his life there. His family did not approve of his painting endeavors and talent. But after the death of his father, his maternal uncle did him a favor by letting him pursue his passion and soon he came in contact with the famous artist Gustav Klimt who influenced him and facilitated his growth in the realm of art and expression. Schiele started with condemning the conventional structure of painting, got influenced by Klimt for a good part of his career and then moved towards expressing what defined him ––freedom of human sexuality and its bold portrayal. He had quite an exciting and adventurous life before he succumbed to his untimely death––he practiced extreme lifestyle with his mistresses, got imprisoned for seducing young girls, had to join the army during the World War I to become a guard of Russian POW, married a socially acceptable woman––all of these incidents influenced his paintings a great deal and helped in his evolution as an artist. He has been described as an artist who was stricken with the tragedy of his father’s death and his sole solace was to express himself in the dark side of sexuality, death and decay."

Egon Schiele
Egon Schiele (German: [ˈʃiːlə] SHEE-lə; 12 June 1890 – 31 October 1918) was an Austrian painter. A protégé of Gustav Klimt, Schiele was a major figurative painter of the early 20th century. His work is noted for its intensity and its raw sexuality, and the many self-portraits the artist produced, including naked self-portraits. The twisted body shapes and the expressive line that characterize Schiele's paintings and drawings mark the artist as an early exponent of Expressionism.
Early life
Schiele was born in 1890 in Tulln, Lower Austria. His father, Adolf Schiele, the station master of the Tulln station in the Austrian State Railways, was born in 1851 in Vienna to Karl Ludwig Schiele, a German from Ballenstedt and Aloisia Schimak; Egon Schiele's mother Marie, née Soukup, was born in 1861 in Český Krumlov (Krumau) to Johann Franz Soukup, a Czech father from Mirkovice, and Aloisia Poferl, a German Bohemian mother from Cesky Krumlov. As a child, Schiele was fascinated by trains, and would spend many hours drawing them, to the point where his father felt obliged to destroy his sketchbooks. When he was 11 years old, Schiele moved to the nearby city of Krems (and later to Klosterneuburg) to attend secondary school. To those around him, Schiele was regarded as a strange child. Shy and reserved, he did poorly at school except in athletics and drawing, and was usually in classes made up of younger pupils. He also displayed incestuous tendencies towards his younger sister Gertrude (who was known as Gerti), and his father, well aware of Egon's behaviour, was once forced to break down the door of a locked room that Egon and Gerti were in to see what they were doing (only to discover that they were developing a film). When he was sixteen he took the twelve-year-old Gerti by train to Trieste without permission and spent a night in a hotel room with her.

Después de una breve estancia en la cárcel, Schiele volvió a Viena y gracias a su amigo Klimt, obtuvo numerosos encargos y volvió a lo alto de la escena artística austríaca, llegando a participar en muchas exposiciones internacionales.
Las pinturas de Egon Schiele muestran el tormento del solitario, la necesidad de las caras de los afligidos, del dolor y de la desesperación del que padece, así como del desconsuelo del desamparado. Schiele también fue capaz, sin embargo, de elevar los aspectos subjetivos hasta la validez general. En él, el otoño se transforma en un símbolo de lo perecedero en los hombres y en las cosas, no sólo la materia animada, sino también la naturaleza inanimada se dotan de espíritu.
Tanto en las composiciones de figuras de Schiele, como también en los paisajes con árboles y casas, sin olvidar tampoco sus cuadros de ciudades, la forma de presentación es sustituida por una forma de experiencia extremadamente inusual, los estados de ánimo y los sentimientos se transforman en dioramas visionarios de trascendencia humana global que se dirigen directamente al espectador que los contempla.
Schiele consigue dar un nuevo contenido a lo más inusual. Era un colorista importante, un pintor y un artista de la pintura.
Su existencia estuvo marcada por diversos sucesos de índole trágica, en su niñez perdió a su padre y más adelante vio morir a su esposa, embarazada de su primer hijo. Pese a su muerte prematura, legó una obra relativamente abundante que expresa, de forma desgarradora, el sufrimiento humano. Se le asocia sobre todo con cuerpos desnudos (a veces autorretratos), de perfil muy marcado y carnes mortificadas, aunque también cultivó el paisajismo y el retrato convencional. Murió, duranta la devastadora epidemia de gripe de 1918, cuando comenzaba a alcanzar la celebridad. Sus creaciones, que gozan hoy de reconocimiento universal, constituyen una magnífica muestra del estilo expresionista.
Sus obras Herbstsonne y Town and River se encuentran entre las más caras del mundo.

Para Schiele, Klimt era maestro y modelo de admiración. Para Klimt, Schiele era como un amigo. En 1908, Schiele hace su primera exposición que es acogida con gran éxito.
En 1911 entabla una relación sentimental con Valerie (Wally) Neuzil de 17 años, y juntos se van a vivir a Krumau (el pueblo de su madre), hasta que estalla el escándalo: es acusado por corrupción de menores, y es que Schiele acostumbraba a tomar como modelos a los niños que se acercaban a su casa para retratarlos, a menudo desnudos o en posiciones obscenas, de ahí que sus obras fueran tildadas de pornográficas.
Después de una breve estancia en la cárcel, Schiele volvió a Viena y gracias a su amigo Klimt, obtuvo numerosos encargos y volvió a lo alto de la escena artística austríaca, llegando a participar en muchas exposiciones internacionales.
Las pinturas de Egon Schiele muestran el tormento del solitario, la necesidad de las caras de los afligidos, del dolor y de la desesperación del que padece, así como del desconsuelo del desamparado. Schiele también fue capaz, sin embargo, de elevar los aspectos subjetivos hasta la validez general. En él, el otoño se transforma en un símbolo de lo perecedero en los hombres y en las cosas, no sólo la materia animada, sino también la naturaleza inanimada se dotan de espíritu.
Tanto en las composiciones de figuras de Schiele, como también en los paisajes con árboles y casas, sin olvidar tampoco sus cuadros de ciudades, la forma de presentación es sustituida por una forma de experiencia extremadamente inusual, los estados de ánimo y los sentimientos se transforman en dioramas visionarios de trascendencia humana global que se dirigen directamente al espectador que los contempla.
Schiele consigue dar un nuevo contenido a lo más inusual. Era un colorista importante, un pintor y un artista de la pintura.
Su existencia estuvo marcada por diversos sucesos de índole trágica, en su niñez perdió a su padre y más adelante vio morir a su esposa, embarazada de su primer hijo. Pese a su muerte prematura, legó una obra relativamente abundante que expresa, de forma desgarradora, el sufrimiento humano. Se le asocia sobre todo con cuerpos desnudos (a veces autorretratos), de perfil muy marcado y carnes mortificadas, aunque también cultivó el paisajismo y el retrato convencional. Murió, duranta la devastadora epidemia de gripe de 1918, cuando comenzaba a alcanzar la celebridad. Sus creaciones, que gozan hoy de reconocimiento universal, constituyen una magnífica muestra del estilo expresionista.
Sus obras Herbstsonne y Town and River se encuentran entre las más caras del mundo.

He is still remembered for his outrageously bold and sexual drawings, the portraits of nude models and himself. The sexual undertone in his work was highly criticized during his time, was called vulgar and grotesque but today they are considered as masterpieces. He was born and brought up in Austria and lived all of his life there. His family did not approve of his painting endeavors and talent. But after the death of his father, his maternal uncle did him a favor by letting him pursue his passion and soon he came in contact with the famous artist Gustav Klimt who influenced him and facilitated his growth in the realm of art and expression. Schiele started with condemning the conventional structure of painting, got influenced by Klimt for a good part of his career and then moved towards expressing what defined him ––freedom of human sexuality and its bold portrayal. He had quite an exciting and adventurous life before he succumbed to his untimely death––he practiced extreme lifestyle with his mistresses, got imprisoned for seducing young girls, had to join the army during the World War I to become a guard of Russian POW, married a socially acceptable woman––all of these incidents influenced his paintings a great deal and helped in his evolution as an artist. He has been described as an artist who was stricken with the tragedy of his father’s death and his sole solace was to express himself in the dark side of sexuality, death and decay."

Egon Schiele (Noah Saavedra) kommt im Jahr 1906 als 16-Jähriger ins österreichische Triest. Sein Vater ist vor Kurzem verstorben und so treibt es ihn und seine Schwester Gerti (Maresi Riegner) ans Meer. Hier will er zu einem großen Künstler werden. Gerti wird dabei zu seiner ersten Muse.
Tatsächlich erarbeitet sich Egon Schiele in den nächsten zwölf Jahren einen Ruf als provokativer Maler. Von der Wiener Gesellschaft wird er als skandalös angesehen, andere Künstler wie Gustav Klimt (Cornelius Obonya) prophezeien ihm jedoch Großes. Egon verliebt sich in Wally Neuzil (Valerie Pachner), seine zweite große Inspiration, und verewigt sie auf seinem Bild "Tod und Mädchen", das einst Weltruhm erlangen soll. Doch 1918, kurz vor Ende des Ersten Weltkriegs, erkrankt Schiele wie so viele andere an der Spanischen Grippe und seine Schwester Gerti ist erneut an seiner Seite, um für ihren Bruder da zu sein.

This film follows Emin at work in her studio as she prepares for an exhibition in Vienna, where her work is displayed alongside that of Egon Schiele, her artistic hero. In recent years Emin has shifted focus to more figurative work, creating paintings and sculptures that continue to explore her most intimate concerns. She speaks candidly about a life devoted to making art, as well as her ambitions for the future.
