This video is my personal tribute to the Polish People of the 17th Century, which stopped and crushed the invasion of Islam against my Homeland.
My special aknowledgement to courageous defenders of Vienna under command of Ernst Rüdiger von Stahremberg, to heroic soldiers of Austria, Bavaria, Saxonia, Franconia and Swabia, to spirited Italian lancers, and last but not least, to the Polish Army under command of John Sobieski III, thanks to whom not only are we privileged to be free and to worship God in our homes, but also in the public life.
My heartfelt love and prayers to millions of nameless heroes of that time, although unknown to historical chronicles yet well known to God, who made their, even the smallest, contribution to saving Europe from the nightmare of Islam.

Medieval fighters from Russia, Ukraine, Moldavia, and Belarus reenact ancient warfare around Khotyn Fortress in Western Ukraine on Saturday. Warriors donned classic metal armor, rode horses, and engaged in combat tournaments with authentic weaponry for the finale of a three day Medieval festival called Medieval Khotyn 2013.
Over 300 members from over 50 different historical reenactment clubs across Eastern Europe congregated on the banks of the Dniester River around the ancient fortress of Khotyn for the second annual event. The clang of swords permeated the Medieval atmosphere as warriors engaged in full contact battles.
Warriors also recreated a medieval style jousting tournament, in which two armoured, mounted knights gallop at each other and attempt to unseat the other with long, wooden poles.
Khotyn Fortress had been the site of numerous battles between diverse adversaries throughout history. Constructed around 1400 by Moldavian ruler Alexander the Good, the site switched hands between Moldavian, Turkish, Polish, Lithuanian, and Imperial Russian rulers.
Festival attendees were treated to many medieval pleasantries, including medieval dance courses, weapon and armour forging classes, live medieval concerts, fire shows, archery and crossbow competitions, as well as an enormous medieval feast.

In this video I will take you to two of the seven wonders of Ukraine - Kamianets-Podilskyi Castle and Khotyn Fortress. These are the most famous forts in western Ukraine. Both of them were built in 10-12th centuries and have lots of history to share.
The day we arrived to Kamianets-Podilskyi city we took a little walk in the Old Town, and spent the next day exploring the Castle. It was built in 11-12th centuries out of wood, and in around 15th century it was upgraded to stone. It was built by Kievan Rus', and throughout its history it has belonged to different rulers.
Khotyn Fortress was built in the 10th century by Prince Vladimir Svyatislavovich as one of the border fortifications of southwestern Kievan Rus’ and was located on important trade routes.
In the last thousand years many nations have fought for control of this region and the Fortress has changed hands several times. The fortress has been destroyed and rebuilt many times during its history and now is considered one of the seven wonders of Ukraine.

The Khotyn Fortress 1380 A.D.
located on the right bank of the Dniester River in Khotyn, Chernivtsi province of western Ukraine. It is situated on a territory of the historical northern Bessarabia region which was split in 1940 between Ukraine and Moldova.
Construction on the current Khotyn fortress was started in 1325, while major improvements were made in the 1380s and in the 1460s.

Khotyn (Ukrainian: Хотин; see other names) is a city in Chernivtsi Oblast of western Ukraine, and is the administrative center of Khotyn Raion within the oblast, and is located south-west of Kamianets-Podilskyi. According to the 2001 Ukrainian census, it has a population of 11,124. In earlier times, the town was part of the Principality of Moldavia (1359–1812), although because of its fortress, at times it was in Polish, Turkish and Austrian hands, then it was part of the Bessarabia Governorate of the Russian Empire (1812–1917), Moldavian Democratic Republic (1917–1918), Romania (1918–1940, 1941–1944), and the USSR (1940–1941, 1944–1991).
Khotyn, first chronicled in 1001, is located on the right (southwestern) bank of the Dniester River, and is part of the historical region Bessarabia. Important architectural landmarks within the city include the Khotyn Fortress, constructed in the 13-15th centuries (new fortress started in 1325, major improvements in 1380s and 1460s), and two 15th century constructions by Moldavia's ruler Stephen the Great: the Prince's Palace (Palatul Domnesc) and the city's clock tower.

The Treaty of Khotyn
Treaty of Khotyn (Chocim), signed in the aftermath of the Battle of Khotyn (1621), ended the Polish-Ottoman War (1620–1621). This peace treaty resulted in no border change but Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth agreed to stop its interference in Moldavia. Both sides claimed victory, as Commonwealth saw the battle of Khotyn as successfully stopping the Ottoman Empire's invasion of its mainland. The Treaty was rather favorable to the Commonwealth, but the Ottoman Emperor also gained what he wanted. Warriors donned classic metal armor, rode horses, and engaged in combat tournaments with authentic weaponry for the finale of a three day Medieval festival called Medieval Khotyn 2013.
Over 300 members from over 50 different historical reenactment clubs across Eastern Europe congregated on the banks of the Dniester River around the ancient fortress of Khotyn for the second annual event. The clang of swords permeated the Medieval atmosphere as warriors engaged in full contact battles.

Khotyn Fortress had been the site of numerous battles between diverse adversaries throughout history. Constructed around 1400 by Moldavian ruler Alexander the Good, the site switched hands between Moldavian, Turkish, Polish, Lithuanian, and Imperial Russian rulers.
Festival attendees were treated to many medieval pleasantries, including medieval dance courses, weapon and armour forging classes, live medieval concerts, fire shows, archery and crossbow competitions, as well as an enormous medieval feast.

Treaty of Khotyn (Chocim), signed in the aftermath of the Battle of Khotyn (1621), ended the Polish-Ottoman War (1620–1621). This peace treaty resulted in no border change but Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth agreed to stop its interference in Moldavia. Both sides claimed victory, as Commonwealth saw the battle of Khotyn as successfully stopping the Ottoman Empire's invasion of its mainland.
The Treaty was rather favorable to the Commonwealth, but the Ottoman Emperor also gained what he wanted. There were no territorial changes; the Commonwealth-Ottoman border was confirmed to be the Dniester river, and the Commonwealth recognized Ottoman control over Moldavia. In the Commonwealth, and among the Cossacks, stopping of the huge Ottoman army was seen as a great victory.
The treaty for the most part repeated the earlier agreement - Treaty of Busza (also known as Treaty of Jaruga) (1617), negotiated by Stanisław Żółkiewski and Iskender Pasha. That 1617 treaty stated that Poland would not meddle in the internal affairs of Ottoman vassals in Transylvania, Moldavia and Wallachia, the Commonwealth was to prevent Cossacks from raiding lands in the Ottoman Empire, while ceding Khotyn. In return, the Ottoman Empire promised to stop Tatar raids.
The Ottomans, on the other hand, even though they gained Commonwealth recognition of their control over Moldavia, were in much worse shape internally. Notably, Chodkiewicz wasn't the only one to die as a result of that battle: sultan Osman himself paid the highest price for the failure of his plans. The Khotyn outcome, and the Ottoman failure to crush the outnumbered Commonwealth army, led Osman to put the blame on the janissaries. Osman wanted to modernize the army, which he blamed for the defeat; his plans for modernization were, however, opposed by the traditional-minded janissaries, culminating in the rebellion of janissaries in 1622, in which Osman II was assassinated.
The Commonwealth-Ottoman border would be fairly quiet until the Ottoman-Commonwealth War (1633-1634).

The Seven Wonders of Ukraine are the seven historical and cultural monuments of Ukraine, that were selected in the Seven Wonders of Ukraine contest held in July 2007. A whole of around 77,000 internet users voted within the campaign. The voting was closed on 21st August 2007 and the results were officially declared on the same day. The Seven Wonders of Nature as chosen by Ukraine. Хотинская крепость - великолепный образец средневекового оборонного зодчества Украины, один из самых значительных памятников архитектуры Буковины. Построена в XIII в. по приказу князя Данилы Галицкого на месте раннеславянских укреплений. Замок (цитадель) состоит из четырех оборонных башен, дворца коменданта, офицерских казарм, церкви с фрагментами росписи XVI в. Долгое время Хотинская крепость была форпостом Галицко-Волынского княжества, важным оборонительным пунктом Приднестровья. В XVI в. ее укрепляет молдавский король Стефан III. В 1621 г. под Хотином объединенные польско-украинские отряды под командованием гетмана Я. Ходкевича разбили 150-тысячную турецкую армию, которая считалась непобедимой. Решающую роль в Хотинской битве сыграло 40-тысячное казацкое войско гетмана П. Сагайдачного. Однако Хотин остался под властью турок, которые в XVIII в. с помощью французских инженеров возвели рядом с замком Новую крепость с земляными рвами, бастионами и четырьмя воротами. Внутри мог разместиться 20-тысячный гарнизон. После присоединения Бессарабии к Российской империи в XIX в. крепость была восстановлена, замковая мечеть превращена в гарнизонную церковь Александра Невского, а мечеть на территории Новой крепости стала церковью Св. Николая. После Крымской войны Хотинская крепость как военный объект потеряла значение, однако неплохо сохранилась. Ее внушительные стены служили декорациями в таких известных кинофильмах, как "Захар Беркут", "Баллада о доблестном рыцаре Айвенго", "Д'Артаньян и три мушкетера", "Стрелы Робин Гуда", "Тарас Бульба". К 1000-летию Хотинской крепости проведена реставрация. В корпусе казарм открыты музейные экспозиции: история артиллерии, осадные орудия, нумизматика, картинная галерея. На территории работает сувенирная лавка. Парковка платная.

Николая. После Крымской войны Хотинская крепость как военный объект потеряла значение, однако неплохо сохранилась. Ее внушительные стены служили декорациями в таких известных кинофильмах, как "Захар Беркут", "Баллада о доблестном рыцаре Айвенго", "Д'Артаньян и три мушкетера", "Стрелы Робин Гуда", "Тарас Бульба". К 1000-летию Хотинской крепости проведена реставрация. В корпусе казарм открыты музейные экспозиции: история артиллерии, осадные орудия, нумизматика, картинная галерея. На территории работает сувенирная лавка. Парковка платная.
