Realizing we need a proper back up solution for our videos, we decided to check out the My Cloud Mirror, a RAID 1 configuration with dual WD RED drives for active redudnacy and cloned information. The configuration we received is an 8TB solution with dual 4TB drives, thus giving users 4TB of usable capacity at RAID 1. Overall there's plenty that we love about WD My Cloud but is it as user friendly as they advertise? Let's find out.

The drive is an improvement over their prior version, with a new industrial design and larger battery. The device doubles as a backup charging battery for mobile phones.
It very easily copies (or moves) SD card when inserted including the ability to do incremental backups.
WD also included a Plex server on the device although it's not well suited for transcoding. See more about Plex here:

My biggest concern relates to security: there's no username or password securing the file share. So when it's on a local network everyone on that network can access the drive without any authentication. That's a big problem.

In W@=D@, Dimitri and Pieter have to do a last favor for their grandfather; Bompa Kado ('uncle Gift'). Bompa Kado went to country's far away and he brought some objects with him. Dimtri and Pieter have to return these objects to its country of origin and find out what exactly it's for. They go on adventure in four countries, 1 country each month; - In November they went to India with a statue of the god Ganesh. - In December the went to Mali with the Kanaga mask from Dogon. - In January they went to China with a dharma wheel - In February they went to Mexico and Guatemala with four corncobs. W@=D@ is a cross-media-project with four media; TV, Internet, magabook and theater.

Realizing we need a proper back up solution for our videos, we decided to check out the My Cloud Mirror, a RAID 1 configuration with dual WD RED drives for active redudnacy and cloned information. The configuration we received is an 8TB solution with dual 4TB drives, thus giving users 4TB of usable capacity at RAID 1. Overall there's plenty that we love about WD My Cloud but is it as user friendly as they advertise? Let's find out.

The drive is an improvement over their prior version, with a new industrial design and larger battery. The device doubles as a backup charging battery for mobile phones.
It very easily copies (or moves) SD card when inserted including the ability to do incremental backups.
WD also included a Plex server on the device although it's not well suited for transcoding. See more about Plex here:

My biggest concern relates to security: there's no username or password securing the file share. So when it's on a local network everyone on that network can access the drive without any authentication. That's a big problem.
