Running the length of Manhattan and continuing into the Bronx, Broadway crosses through many of New York City's neighborhoods. Broadway runs diagonally north and intersects with most avenues.
Times Square
Times Square is definitely the most famous intersection, or square along Broadway. It is formed by the intersection of Broadway and 7th Avenue between 42nd and 47th Streets. It was named Times Square in 1904 after a newspaper, which you may have heard of called the New York Times, moved into a building on 42nd Street.
New York's Times Square is known all over the world for its bright neon lights and digital advertisements on building walls, for its many stores open day and night and for its restaurants. In addition, the Theatre District located along Broadway just north of Times Square shows many of the newest and most famous stage performances.
New Year's Eve Ball Drop
The New York's New Year's Eve Ball Drop has become a worldwide attraction since its inception on December 31, 1907 when it was decided to substitute the fireworks, which were becoming dangerous to the public, with a bright ball descending along a pole in Times Square.
ABC Television Studios -- 1500 Broadway
The skyscraper located at 1500 Broadway is known for hosting the ABC Television Studios. Each morning at 6am. you can stand in front of the studios and you may see the hosts or one of the famous guests of the show Good Morning America.
NASDAQ Building -- 4 Times Square
Across the street from the ABC TV studios you cannot miss a bright skyscraper which houses the NASDAQ Market Site, with its large electronic screen that keeps you updated on about 3700 companies trading on the NASDAQ exchange.
Hard Rock Café -- 1501 Broadway
Along Broadway there are many restaurants, coffee shops, sandwich shops and places to eat, so you will never go hungry. But the most well-known place to eat here in Times Square is the Hard Rock Café. It offers good food and great music with a distinctive sound system.

At MTV Studios in a building called "Astor Plaza". People from all over the world, come here and wait in line whenever a famous performing artist is due to arrive.
Minskoff Theatre -- 1515 Broadway
Broadway is known for its many theatres, commonly called "Broadway Theatres". Most of the theatres are actually located around this area, but not necessarily on Broadway. The Minskoff Theatre, also located in "Astor Plaza" is one theater on Broadway. Currently it is showing Disney Musical The Lion King.
TKTS
If you want to save on theatre shows, you can purchase your tickets at the TKTS booth in the middle of Times Square. Every day, Broadway theatres release tickets to be sold at cheaper prices than regular full price.

Times Square Studios
Times Square Studios (TSS) is an American television studio owned by The Walt Disney Company, located on the SE corner of West 44th Street and Broadway in the Times Square area of the borough of Manhattan. The studio is best known as the production home of ABC News' Good Morning America (GMA), a morning news and talk program, segments for other ABC News programs, and various programs on ESPN.
Background
Times Square Studios is on the site of the former Hotel Claridge, built in 1911. In 1972, the hotel was demolished and the current structure, which housed the National Theater, and a Beefsteak Charlie's restaurant, was built. The theater closed in 1998.
The studio was designed by Walt Disney Imagineering, Disney's design and development arm. The original concept for the studio was conceived by Harry Grossman. His plan called for the studio to broadcast many shows twenty-four hours a day for both Disney-owned and non-Disney programs.
The building's outer facade consists of over nine LED ribbons of lights. The 8th LED ribbon of lights from the top is used as a ticker for ABC News, while the 9th is a sports ticker for ESPN. Also on the facade is a large TV display made by Mitsubishi - Diamond Vision, though the display is sponsored by Siemens, which has their logo below the display. This screen mainly broadcasts the late SportsCenter, along with WABC-TV and ABC News newscasts during non-GMA hours, along with high-profile sports events, series and films on the ABC and ESPN family of networks for both the convenience of Times Square visitors and to provide a simple venue for crowd photo ops for those high-profile events.

Lara Spencer
Lara Christine Von Seelen (known professionally as Lara Spencer) (born June 19, 1969) is an American television journalist. She is best known for being the co-anchor for ABC's Good Morning America. She is also a correspondent for Nightline and ABC News. Previously, she was the host of the syndicated entertainment newsmagazine The Insider from 2004 to 2011, and was a regular contributor to CBS's The Early Show. Before then, she was the national correspondent for Good Morning America and spent several years as a lifestyle reporter for WABC-TV. She also hosted Antiques Roadshow on PBS for the 2004 and 2005 seasons, and Antiques Roadshow FYI, a spin-off of Antiques Roadshow, during 2005.
Biography
Spencer grew up in the New York suburb of Garden City, Long Island, where she graduated from Garden City High School in 1987. She attended Pennsylvania State University on an athletic scholarship for springboard and platform diving and was a nationally ranked competitive diver. She was named an All American Athlete in 1991, her senior year, and graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism.

Running the length of Manhattan and continuing into the Bronx, Broadway crosses through many of New York City's neighborhoods. Broadway runs diagonally north and intersects with most avenues.
Times Square
Times Square is definitely the most famous intersection, or square along Broadway. It is formed by the intersection of Broadway and 7th Avenue between 42nd and 47th Streets. It was named Times Square in 1904 after a newspaper, which you may have heard of called the New York Times, moved into a building on 42nd Street.
New York's Times Square is known all over the world for its bright neon lights and digital advertisements on building walls, for its many stores open day and night and for its restaurants. In addition, the Theatre District located along Broadway just north of Times Square shows many of the newest and most famous stage performances.
New Year's Eve Ball Drop
The New York's New Year's Eve Ball Drop has become a worldwide attraction since its inception on December 31, 1907 when it was decided to substitute the fireworks, which were becoming dangerous to the public, with a bright ball descending along a pole in Times Square.
ABC Television Studios -- 1500 Broadway
The skyscraper located at 1500 Broadway is known for hosting the ABC Television Studios. Each morning at 6am. you can stand in front of the studios and you may see the hosts or one of the famous guests of the show Good Morning America.
NASDAQ Building -- 4 Times Square
Across the street from the ABC TV studios you cannot miss a bright skyscraper which houses the NASDAQ Market Site, with its large electronic screen that keeps you updated on about 3700 companies trading on the NASDAQ exchange.
Hard Rock Café -- 1501 Broadway
Along Broadway there are many restaurants, coffee shops, sandwich shops and places to eat, so you will never go hungry. But the most well-known place to eat here in Times Square is the Hard Rock Café. It offers good food and great music with a distinctive sound system.

The stepped red roof of the TKTS booth also provides seating for various events. The Duffy Statue and the square were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.[19]

Hong Kong's Time Square may not have the abundance of neon lights of New York's Time Square, however it does rival the one in New York in terms of crowds and activity.
Located in the Cosway Bay area, this is the center of Hong Kong's commercial activity, especially in the evenings. You notice the magnitude of this place as soon as you walk in. This huge building here has major upscale brand outlets, restaurants and offices. On the lower levels the place caters to shopaholics. But only those who are big spenders.
They did not forget the food part here. There are plenty of restaurants on the upper floor. Time Square is more than just this mall. Some might say the real action is outside on the streets. This is where you experience everyday Hong Kong life. This place is absolutely buzzing with energy. There are about a million people here going about their daily activities. Most journeys begin at Penn Station or Grand Central, and if you arrive at the later you'll be wowed by the building. The Meatpacking District was once home to markets, slaughterhouses, and packaging plants, but times have changed. Today you'll find a mixture of trendy restaurants, clubs and boutiques. The Village used to be a bohemian neighborhood that drew artists and musicians, but today you're more likely to find upper middle class families living here. Completed in 1883, Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Williamsburg has become popular given its lower rent prices. University students and young professionals have been flocking to this part of town.
You can walk along the riverfront for a great view of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges and the Manhattan skyline. During the summer months, Bryant Park also becomes a popular hangout spot people looking to relax and even work on their tans. The Staten Island Ferry is free of charge and this makes it really popular with visitors who want to catch a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty from a distance. Battery Park is located on the southern tip of Manhattan. Having both lived in South Korea, we were thrilled to come across Manhattan's own Little Korea. Coney Island is all about good old fashioned fun. The Cloisters will make you feel like you've travelled over to Europe. Central Park is massive and there are so many places to visit within its boundaries. We managed to visit Belvedere Castle, the Great Lawn, Shakespeare Garden, The Ramble, The Jackie Onassis Reservoir, the Alice in Wonderland Statue, and we still left feeling like we barely scratched the surface.
And that concludes a look at our very busy week in New York City. I'm still shocked we managed to cover so many attractions, but the great thing about this city is that distances aren't very long and there's always something really cool worth checking out around each corner. Таймс Сквер - сердце ночной жизни Нью-Йорка. Обилие неоновой рекламы конкурирует с рекламой Лас-Вегаса. На здании всемирно-известной телекомпании АВС - огромный светодиодный экран. Объединяет в себе возможности показа брендов и телепрограмм. На сегодняшний день - это последнее слово в науке о построении видеоэкранов. Каждое утро, как только начинает свое вещание передача "С добрым утром Америка", толпы людей собираются здесь посмотреть эту программу в прямом эфире. На площади и возле нее имеется большое количество головных офисов крупных финансовых корпораций.
Таймс Сквер знаменит еще тем, что 31 декабря он собирает здесь около миллиона людей, чтобы встретить очередной Новый год. Эта традиция родилась более века назад в 1904 году, когда в городе появились первые неоновые рекламы, тогда над площадью воспарил светящийся шар, весом 700 фунтов. С тех пор конструкция шара менялась. Сейчас его поверхность состоит из тысячи хрустальных треугольников, и сложной системы из лампочек и вращающихся зеркал. Вся эта хрустальная сфера испускает ослепительное сияние. И вот уже 100 лет этот новогодний символ объединяет множество людей, хором отсчитывающих секунды перед наступлением Нового года. Спуском сверкающего шара на Таймс Сквер, знаменуется начало нового года в Америке.

Таймс Сквер (Times Square) расположен на пересечении Бродвея и 7-й Авеню. Это самая знаменитая площадь, считающаяся символом Нью-Йорка. Свое название получила от бывшего здания газеты "Нью-Йорк таймс". Таймс Сквер поражает воображение небоскребами, многочисленными неоновыми рекламами, огромными мониторами, бегущей строкой и сверкающими витринами.
Таймс Сквер - сердце ночной жизни Нью-Йорка. Обилие неоновой рекламы конкурирует с рекламой Лас-Вегаса. На здании всемирно-известной телекомпании АВС - огромный светодиодный экран. Объединяет в себе возможности показа брендов и телепрограмм. На сегодняшний день - это последнее слово в науке о построении видеоэкранов. Каждое утро, как только начинает свое вещание передача "С добрым утром Америка", толпы людей собираются здесь посмотреть эту программу в прямом эфире. На площади и возле нее имеется большое количество головных офисов крупных финансовых корпораций.
Таймс Сквер знаменит еще тем, что 31 декабря он собирает здесь около миллиона людей, чтобы встретить очередной Новый год. Эта традиция родилась более века назад в 1904 году, когда в городе появились первые неоновые рекламы, тогда над площадью воспарил светящийся шар, весом 700 фунтов. С тех пор конструкция шара менялась. Сейчас его поверхность состоит из тысячи хрустальных треугольников, и сложной системы из лампочек и вращающихся зеркал. Вся эта хрустальная сфера испускает ослепительное сияние. И вот уже 100 лет этот новогодний символ объединяет множество людей, хором отсчитывающих секунды перед наступлением Нового года. Спуском сверкающего шара на Таймс Сквер, знаменуется начало нового года в Америке.

The initial guests are Carl Weisbrod, then-president of the 42nd Street Development Project at the Urban Development Corporation, and Paul Segal, past president of the New York chapter of the American Institute for Architects. There is a filmed segment about the history of Times Square as the city's entertainment center, complete with color footage of Times Square movie marquees in the 1940s, plus interviews with Tama Starr, president of Artkraft Strauss Co., which created all the neon light displays in Times Square, and Elliot Willensky, co-author of "The American Insitute for Architects Guide to New York City." Afterwards, Brendan Gill, a longtime writer for The New Yorker and co-founder of the Committee to Reclaim Times Square, joins the discussion and expresses his skepticism about the motives of the new developers. It's quite a lively discussion and has new resonance in light of the redevelopment in Times Square and 42nd Street that did indeed occur in the decades since this program aired on WNET/Thirteen in New York on May 25, 1989.
