Wayne Robert LaPierre, Jr. (born November 8, 1949) is an American author and gun rights advocate. He is best known for his position as the executive vice president of the National Rifle Association and for his criticism of gun control policies.
LaPierre was born Wayne Robert LaPierre, Jr. on November 8, 1949, in Schenectady, New York to Hazel Gordon and Wayne Robert LaPierre, Sr. His father was an accountant for the local General Electric plant. He is the eldest child of Hazel and Wayne, Sr. The family moved to Roanoke, Virginia, when LaPierre, Jr. was five years old, and he was raised in the Roman Catholic church.
He has been a government activist and lobbyist since receiving his master's degree including positions on the board of directors of the American Association of Political Consultants, the American Conservative Union, and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
Since 1991, he has served as Executive Vice President and chief executive officer of the National Rifle Association (NRA), the largest gun rights and small arms industry advocacy organization in the United States. LaPierre joined the NRA in 1977 after working as a legislative aide to a Democratic Virginia delegate, Vic Thomas.

Ethiopia has won a much-coveted seat on the United Nations Security Council. The UN General Assembly has chosen five new council members. Ethiopia and Bolivia were appointed unopposed. Sweden and Kazakhstan won contested elections. And the Netherlands and Italy ended a battle for the final seat by agreeing to split the two-year term. Italy will hold the seat in 2017 and the Netherlands in 2018. The 15-member council includes five permanent members with veto power -- the US, Russia, China, Britain and France -- and 10 non-permanent members. The Security Council is the United Nations' most powerful body.

Delhi Assembly Elections/Polls: BJP will get a comfortable majority in Delhi, with Aam Aadmi Party reduced to a distant second and Congress completely routed, an opinion poll conducted by ABP News-Nielsen has predicted. BJP, riding high on the Modi wave, is predicted to bag 46 seats in the 70-member Delhi assembly, followed by AAP with 18 seats while Congress could be reduced to only five seats if the elections were to be held in the national capital now, the poll said.
