The teleological or physico-theological argument, also known as the argument from design, or intelligent design argument is an argument for the existence of God or, more generally, for an intelligent creator "based on perceived evidence of deliberate design in the natural or physical world". It is historically closely associated with the concept of Natural Theology.
The earliest recorded versions of this argument are associated with Socrates in ancient Greece, although it has been argued that he was taking up an older argument. Plato, his student, and Aristotle, Plato's student, developed complex approaches to the proposal that the cosmos has an intelligent cause, but it was the Stoics who, under their influence, "developed the battery of creationist arguments broadly known under the label "The Argument from Design"".
Socratic philosophy influenced the development of the Abrahamic religions in many ways, and the teleological argument has a long association with them. In the Middle Ages, Islamic theologians such as Al Ghazali used the argument, although it was rejected as unnecessary by Quranic literalists, and as unconvincing by many Islamic philosophers. Later, the teleological argument was accepted by Saint Thomas Aquinas and included as the fifth of his "Five Ways" of proving the existence of God. In early modern England clergymen such as William Turner and John Ray were well-known proponents. In the early 18th century, William Derham published his Physico-Theology, which gave his "demonstration of the being and attributes of God from his works of creation". Later, William Paley, in his 1802 work on natural theology, published a prominent presentation of the design argument with his version of the watchmaker analogy and the first use of the phrase "argument from design".
Clinton Richard Dawkins FRS FRSL (born 26 March 1941) is an Englishethologist, evolutionary biologist, and writer. He is an emeritus fellow of New College, Oxford, and was the University of Oxford's Professor for Public Understanding of Science from 1995 until 2008.
Dawkins first came to prominence with his 1976 book The Selfish Gene, which popularised the gene-centred view of evolution and introduced the term meme. In 1982, he introduced into evolutionary biology the influential concept that the phenotypic effects of a gene are not necessarily limited to an organism's body, but can stretch far into the environment. This concept is presented in his book The Extended Phenotype. In 2006, he founded the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science.
Dawkins is a noted atheist, and is well known for his criticism of creationism and intelligent design. In his 1986 book The Blind Watchmaker, he argues against the watchmaker analogy, an argument for the existence of a supernatural creator based upon the complexity of living organisms. Instead, he describes evolutionary processes as analogous to a blind watchmaker. In his most popular book, his 2006 book The God Delusion, Dawkins contends that a supernatural creator almost certainly does not exist and that religious faith is a delusion. He is an opponent of creationism being taught in schools. He makes regular television and radio appearances, predominantly discussing his books, his atheism and his ideas and opinions as a public intellectual.

Last week we introduced Thomas Aquinas’s four cosmological arguments for the existence of god; today we introduce his fifth argument: the teleological argument, and the ensuing dialogue it initiated. -- Bokeh Spiral by Eric Wüstenhagen: https://www.flickr.com/photos/eriwst/2987739376 Gusano alambre (wireworms) by jacinta lluch valero: https://www.flickr.com/photos/70626035@N00/8817671329 Experimental by Peter Klashorst: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Baby_playing_with_yellow_paint._Work_by_Dutch_artist_Peter_Klashorst_entitled_%22Experimental%22.jpg Flightless Cormorant by Mike Weston: https://www.flickr.com/photos/mikeweston/331214460 All other images via Wikimedia Commons, licensed under Creative Commons by 4.0: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ -- Produced in coll...

The argument from Design says that God must exist because the universe points to a creator.

The only good thing I can say about this argument is that at least apologists don't have to lie quite so badly to make their case. Agenticity is a powerful psychological bias that affects us all. The argument from apparent design, or teleological argument, is commonly employed by the religious in debate. It has an appealing premise, but given enough thought can be easily confronted and tackled. How is Earth so finely tuned to support human life? Why are the laws of physics perfect for the interaction of celestial bodies? Was the universe intelligently designed or did it come about through natural processes? These are the questions that we discuss in today's video. I cannot sufficiently express my gratitude towards all those who have shared and supported my channel over the past few days. I've experienced a substantial growth in followers on YouTube and across social media completely unexpectedly and I am still bemused by the sheer haste of it all. If you are one of those followers...
This video explains the teleological argument. On a basic level it is the argument for design. It uses the fact that so many constants and quantities have been observed to be precisely tailored or fine-tuned for life to be possible and further shows that the best explanation for this observation is neither necessity nor chance but DESIGN.
On February 21st, 2014, Dr. William Lane Craig (PhD. Philosophy, Theology) and Dr. Sean Carroll (PhD. Astronomy) participated in the Greer Heard Forum, which seeks to promote intelligent dialogue between believers and nonbelievers. The formal debate, which was over the relevance of theism in contemporary cosmology, was followed the next day by a series of responses from other scholars, two chosen by Dr. Craig, and two chosen by Dr. Carroll. The clip above shows the portions of the debate which the two participants devoted to a back-and-forth discussion of the Teleological Argument from the Fine-Tuning of the Universe, a traditional argument of natural theology defended most prominently by Dr. Robin Collins on the contemporary scene. Prof. Matt McCormick's lecture about William Paley's influential argument from design (Natural Theology 1802). Paley argues by analogy that watches are to watchmakers what the universe is to God. Design arguments suffer from several serious problems: evolution is a better natural explanation, the creation of God is disanalogous to human artifacts like watches, and they confuse necessary and sufficient conditions.
Prof. McCormick's lecture about Swinburne's argument from design for God. There is something rather than nothing. It is composed of simple parts. And they behave according to simple, elegant, formulable natural laws. We would not expect these to be the case unless there were a creator of infinite power, knowledge, and goodness. Therefore God exist. There are a several interesting and important problems with this argument, however, including a peculiar abuse of the notion of probability.
Cosmology specialist and philosopher Dr. William Lane Craig refutes the objections of the Teleological Argument (Fine-Tuning Argument) for God's existence in The God Delusion by biologist and atheist Richard Dawkins.

William Lane Craig tackles atheist Richard Dawkins and his objections against the teleological argument for the existence of God. Despite Craig's refutation of Dawkins' objections, Dawkins has still not responded and he continues to run from any type of one-on-one debate with Craig.
