The Alpenliga was an international professional ice hockey league which existed between 1991 and 1999. It was contested by club teams from Austria, Italy and Slovenia.
In 1994-95 and 1995-96, the Alpenliga was part of a larger competition called the Six Nations Tournament (sometimes called Europäischer Ligacup or Coupe des Ligues Européennes), which pitted its top teams against members of the Atlantic League, another crossborder loop composed of French, Dutch and Danish clubs.
After 1999, the Alpenliga was replaced with the International Ice Hockey League (often shortened to Interliga), first contested 1999-2000. Eight clubs from Austria, Hungary and Slovenia including, HC Alba Volan, HK Acroni Jesenice, Dunaferr SE, Erste VEU Feldkirch, EC Klagenfurter, HK Olimpija, VSV Villach and WEV Wiener played the first season. The league winners were Villacher SV, and playoff champions were Klagenfurter EC.
After just one season, Austrian teams quit the International Ice Hockey League, and were replaced with Croatian clubs. Yugoslavian, Slovak and Polish organizations also made appearances over the years. The Interliga ceased operations following the 2006-07 season.
Dave Pasin (born July 8, 1966 in Edmonton, Alberta) is a former professional ice hockey centre. He was drafted in the first round, 19th overall, by the Boston Bruins in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft. He played 76 games in the National Hockey League: 71 with the Bruins in the 1985–86 season and five with the Los Angeles Kings in the 1988–89 season.
Luc Robitaille (born February 17, 1966) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player. During his 19-season National Hockey League (NHL) career, Robitaille won a Stanley Cup in 2001–02 with the Detroit Red Wings, and played for the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers, but is most known for his fourteen seasons, over three different stints, with the Los Angeles Kings. He served as Kings team captain during the 1992–93 and 2005–06 seasons. Robitaille retired after the 2005–06 season as the highest-scoring left winger in NHL history and the holder of several Kings franchise records, as well as numerous Kings playoff records.
Robitaille was drafted by the Kings in the ninth round (171st overall) of the 1984 NHL Entry Draft. Many hockey experts expected Robitaille to be drafted late in the draft due to his poor skating ability. Robitaille himself has stated that he had only had contact with one NHL team during his junior career - the Kings. He happened to be attending the '84 draft (in the stands), and later introduced himself to first year Kings general manager Rogie Vachon.
John Parco (born August 25, 1971) is an Italian-Canadian professional ice hockey player who plays for Asiago HC in the Serie A. He participated at the 2010 IIHF World Championship as a member of the Italian National men's ice hockey team.
Parco played three seasons of junior hockey for the Belleville Bulls of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) from 1988 until 1991. He was drafted 248th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft but never played in the NHL. Instead Parco joined Asiago HC in Italy for two seasons. In 1993, Parco moved back to North America and split the season with the IHL's San Diego Gulls, the ECHL's Hampton Roads Admirals and the AHL's Saint John Flames. He moved back to Asiago the next season before moving to the Deutsche Eishockey Liga in Germany, spending two seasons with the Kaufbeuren Adler. He then had a two year spell with the Ayr Scottish Eagles in the United Kingdom. He returned to Hampton Roads in 1999 for one season before moving back to Britain with the Cardiff Devils. In 2001 he returned to Asiago where he remains today. In 2004, he became player-coach of the team but had little success and was replaced mid-season while remaining as a player. John had once had a car named "Louise".
