Caliraya
Hydro Electric Plant, which is located in
Lumban, Laguna is the first power plant ever built by NPC.
CHEP utilizes the
Caliraya Lake as upper reservoir and
Lumban River as the outlet works. The plant has then four (4) units with a combined generating capacity of 32 MW. After the rehabilitation in
2002, the plant has two (2) units with a combined generating capacity of 22.6 MW.
Botocan Hydroelectric Plant was acquired by NPC from the previous owner,
Manila Electric Company (
MERALCO) in
January 1979. BHEP is located in
Majayjay, Laguna, about 50 miles southwest from
Manila. BHEP was then equipped with two (2) units rated at 8 megawatts each and a 0.96 megawatt auxiliary unit. BHEP uses Botocan
River as its water source for energy. After rehabilitation by CBKPCL, BHEP has a combined guaranteed generating capacity of 20 MW plus a 0.8 MW auxiliary unit.
Kalayaan Pumped Storage Power Plant, the first of its kind in
Southeast Asia, is located in
Kalayaan, Laguna some 60 km southeast of Manila. Its main purpose is to supply additional peaking/pumping power to the Luzon grid. KPSPP is then equipped with two (2) units. After the completion of rehabilitation in 2002, units 1 and 2 have a guaranteed capacity of 168 MW each for a total of
336 MW and in
2003, the additional units 3 and 4 have a guaranteed capacity of 174.3 MW each for a total of 348.6 MW. KPSPP has now a total guaranteed capacity of 684.6 MW.
