This is the only copy of Budd Dwyer's press conference that is known to exist. During the making of "Honest Man", a feature length film about Dwyer's life, I attempted to acquire footage of his entire speech (Just the speech, NOT his suicide) but was denied by every news station in Pennsylvania. Oddly enough his suicide was, and still is, fully available to license from several news archives for a large fee.
To me this is a testament to the power of Dwyer's words and a reminder of the continued cowardice by the local media within Pennsylvania.

Michael Dale "Mike" Huckabee (born August 24, 1955) is an American politician who served as the 44th Governor of Arkansas from 1996 to 2007. He was a candidate in the 2008 United States Republican presidential primaries, finishing second in delegate count and third in both popular vote and number of states won (behind both John McCain and Mitt Romney). He won the Iowa Republican caucuses. Huckabee exited the race as McCain became the presumptive Republican nominee after winning the delegate-rich winner-take-all states of Florida, California, and New York.
Huckabee is the author of several best selling books, an ordained Southern Baptistminister, musician and a public speaker. He is also an ABC Radio political commentator. He and his wife, Janet, have been married for over 37 years and have three grown children: John Mark, David, and Sarah. Janet Huckabee was an unsuccessful candidate for Arkansas Secretary of State in 2002.
Huckabee currently hosts the Fox News Channel talk show Huckabee. Starting April 2, 2012 he will host The Mike Huckabee Show from noon until 3 pm weekdays for Cumulus Media Networks.

Christopher John "Chris" Matthews (born December 17, 1945) is an American news anchor and political commentator known for his nightly hour-long talk show, Hardball with Chris Matthews, which is televised on the American cable television channel MSNBC. On weekends he hosts the syndicated NBC News–produced panel discussion program The Chris Matthews Show. Matthews makes frequent appearances on many other NBC and MSNBC programs. On March 22, 2009, Matthews renewed the contract for Hardball with Chris Matthews through 2012.
Matthews was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Irish American parents and is a Roman Catholic. He attended La Salle College High School. He is a 1967 graduate of the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, and did graduate work in economics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Matthews served in the United States Peace Corps in Swaziland from 1968 to 1970 as a trade development adviser.
When Matthews first arrived in Washington, D.C., he worked as a police officer with the United States Capitol Police. Subsequently, he served on the staffs of four Democratic members of Congress, including Senators Frank Moss and Edmund Muskie. In 1974, he mounted an unsuccessful campaign for Pennsylvania's 4th congressional district seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in which he received about 24% of the vote in the primary. Matthews was a presidential speechwriter during the Carter administration and later worked for six years as a top aide to longtime Speaker of the House of Representatives Tip O'Neill, playing a direct role in many key political battles with the Reagan administration.

As we reported last week, Pelosi told the Politico newspaper that she is blocking a Republican push to increase domestic oil drilling in part because she wants to "save the planet." But the Politico now reports Democratic aides say the speaker's plan is "part of an intentional strategy in which Pelosi takes the heat on energy policy, while behind the scenes she's encouraging vulnerable Democrats to express their independence if it helps them politically." In other words, blame her for not being allowed to expand domestic drilling. But an aide to House Speaker Pelosi contradicted the Politico article withouth elaborating on it, telling FOX News, "It's false."

During the making of "Honest Man", a feature length film about Dwyer's life, I attempted to acquire footage of his entire speech (Just the speech, NOT his suicide) but was denied by every news station in Pennsylvania. Oddly enough his suicide was, and still is, fully available to license from several news archives for a large fee. To me this is a testament to the power of Dwyer's words and a reminder of the continued cowardice by the local media within Pennsylvania. Calling Fox News "a wing of the Republican Party," the Obama administration on Sunday escalated its war of words against the channel, even as observers questioned the wisdom of a White House war on a news organization.
"What I think is fair to say about Fox -- and certainly it's the way we view it -- is that it really is more a wing of the Republican Party," said Anita Dunn, White House communications director, on CNN. "They take their talking points, put them on the air; take their opposition research, put them on the air. And that's fine. But let's not pretend they're a news network the way CNN is."
Fox News senior vice president Michael Clemente, who likens the channel to a newspaper with separate sections on straight news and commentary, suggested White House officials were intentionally conflating opinion show hosts like Glenn Beck with news reporters like Major Garrett.
"It's astounding the White House cannot distinguish between news and opinion programming," Clemente said. "It seems self-serving on their part."
In recent weeks, the White House has begun using its government blog to directly attack what it called "Fox lies." David Gergen, who has worked for President Bill Clinton and three Republican presidents, questioned the propriety of the White House declaring war on a news organization.
"It's a very risky strategy. It's not one that I would advocate," Gergen said on CNN. "If you're going to get very personal against the media, you're going to find that the animosities are just going to deepen. And you're going to find that you sort of almost draw viewers and readers to the people you're attacking. You build them up in some ways, you give them stature."
He added: "The press always has the last barrel of ink."
Gergen's sentiments were echoed by Tony Blankley, who once served as press secretary to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
"Going after a news organization, in my experience, is always a loser," Blankley said on CNN. "They have a big audience. And Fox has an audience of not just conservatives -- they've got liberals and moderates who watch too. They've got Obama supporters who are watching. So it's a temptation for a politician, but it needs to be resisted."
Nia Malika Henderson, White House correspondent for the Politico newspaper, also questioned the White House offensive against Fox.
"Obama's only been a boon to their ratings and I don't understand how this kind of escalation of rhetoric and kind of taking them on, one on one, would do anything other than escalate their ratings even more," she said.
Dunn used an appearance on CNN's "Reliable Sources" over the weekend to complain about Fox News' coverage of the Obama presidential campaign a year ago.
"It was a time this country was in two wars," she recalled. "We'd had a financial collapse probably more significant than any financial collapse since the Great Depression. If you were a Fox News viewer in the fall election, what you would have seen would have been that the biggest stories and biggest threats facing America were a guy named Bill Ayers and something called ACORN."
Ayers was co-founder of the Weather Underground, a communist terrorist group that bombed the Pentagon and other buildings in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1995, Ayers hosted Obama at his home for a political function and the two men later served together on the board of an anti-poverty group known as the Woods Fund.
The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), which once had close ties to Obama, has been accused by a variety of law enforcement agencies of voter fraud. In recent weeks, the Democrat-controlled Congress moved to sever funding to ACORN after Fox News aired undercover videotapes of ACORN employees giving advice on how to break the law to a pair of journalists disguised as a pimp and prostitute.
As for Dunn's complaint about Fox News' coverage of the Obama campaign, a study by the Pew Research Center showed that 40 percent of Fox News stories on Obama in the last six weeks of the campaign were negative. Similarly, 40 percent of Fox News' stories on Obama's Republican opponent, Sen. John McCain, were negative.

House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa on Thursday subpoenaed Secretary of State John Kerry. The California Republican wants Kerry to soon testify on the 2012 Benghazi terrorist attacks.
The Congressman told the Beltway newspaper Politico that "slippery tactics" will not dampen the committee's investigation into the State Department's role in responding to the attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
In a statement, Congressman Issa noted: "Absent an assertion of executive privilege, the State Department has a legal obligation to fully and completely comply."
Issa initially issued a subpoena for Kerry to testify on May 21st—a day Secretary Kerry planned to be in Mexico. A new subpoena compels Kerry to testify on May 29th.
Issa said he lifted the May 21st subpoena because the State Department made reasonable arguments against that date. However, Issa added that right after he lifted the initial subpoena, the State Department backtracked—while stating publicly that Issa should accept "a more appropriate witness."
So, it seems the State Department is refusing to commit to making Secretary Kerry available. The State Department also noted that Issa's timing is bad because Kerry is currently traveling in London and was not given sufficient notice.
Kerry, a former Massachusetts Senator, was not confirmed as Secretary of State until after the September 2012 attack on the Benghazi consulate. Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State at the time.
State Department Deputy spokeswoman Marie Harf went on to say: "This time the subpoena was accompanied by a headline-grabbing, highly-political 'tweet' attacking the integrity of the State Department itself."
However, Ms. Harf claimed that the State Department will still work with Issa's staff on a hearing date and witnesses.
Meanwhile, the Oversight Committee's top Democrat, Elijah Cummings of Maryland, dismissed the subpoena.
Cummings was quoted as saying: "I don't know if this is Chairman Issa's attempt to reinsert himself into this investigation after the speaker removed him, but this looks more and more like the 'sideshow' and 'circus' Speaker Boehner said he would not tolerate."
That was a reference to House Speaker John Boehner, an Ohio Republican.
Yet the real sideshow may be the overall congressional probe into Benghazi, regardless of who testifies.
The real meat of the matter is that the late Ambassador Stevens may have been personally involved in a gun-running scheme to funnel weapons out of Libya, through Turkey, and into the hands of Western-backed rebels trying to topple Syrian leader Bashar al Assad.
The Washington-based national paper American Free Press noted:
• On September 11th, 2012, the gun battle which erupted when a heavily-armed group staged a nighttime attack on the Benghazi consulate spilled over into a neighboring location that had been used as a CIA "safe house."
• When the dust settled, four Americans were dead, including Ambassador Stevens.
• The Western press in Libya knew all along that the assault was not "a spontaneous attack" brought on by an anti-Islamic You Tube movie.
• Instead, the attackers targeted a perceived CIA operation tasked with moving weapons to rebel fighters around the Middle East.
And it appears this all started just after the NATO-led invasion of Libya. Given this broader perspective and the high stakes involved, Congress should not drop this matter.
But if Congress keeps nibbling around the edges and ignores deeper realities, Americans will be denied a chance to closely see the dire outcome of our interventionist foreign policy.
