বিএনপির চেয়ারপার্সন দেশনেত্রী বেগম খালেদা জিয়া বলেন, “অনেক দিন পর পরিবারের কাছে এসেছি, তাই পরিবারের সদস্যরা ছাড়তে চায় না, কিন্তু আমাকে দেশে যেতেই হবে, দেশে গিয়ে দেশের মানুষের পাশে দাঁড়াতে হবে।”
তিনি আরও বলেন, “যারা বিগত আন্দোলনে রাজপথে ছিলো তাদের দিয়েই কমিটি গঠন করার নির্দেশ দিয়েছি। ভাই ভাইয়ের পকেট কমিটি আর করা চলবেনা! ওরা আমাকেও বলেছিল দেশের বাইরে চলে যেতে। তারেক রহমানকে ও বলেছিল, কোকোকে ও বলেছিল। কিন্তু আমি সহ ওরা সবাই বলেছে, এই দেশ ছেড়ে কোথায় যাবো ? এই দেশ আমার, এই দেশের মাটি আমার। দেশের বাইরে আমাদের কিছু নেই, আমরা বাইরে যাবো না। আমি যাইও নি। কিন্তু হাসিনা ঠিকই দেশের বাইরে চলে গিয়েছিল। কারন হাসিনার সাথে মইনুদ্দিন ফখরুদ্দিনের কানেকশন ছিল। ফখরুদ্দিন মইনুদ্দিনের অবৈধ ঐ সরকারও চেয়েছিল বিএনপিকে ভাঙতে, হাসিনাও তাই চেষ্টা করছে। কিন্তু বিএনপি ঐক্যবদ্ধ থাকবে, বিএনপি ভাঙবে না। বিএনপি ঐক্যবদ্ধ ছিল, বিএনপি ঐক্যবদ্ধ আছে, ইনশাল্লাহ বিএনপি ঐক্যবদ্ধ থাকবে।”

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Saturday said police dragged her from the bedroom of her house in the Dhaka Cantonment in a single dress. "They entered my bedroom and ransacked all furniture. They did not allow me to bring some items bearing the memory of ...Shaheed Ziaur Rahman," a tearing Khaleda said at a press briefing at her Gulshan office in the evening. The opposition leader said police in the morning entered her Dhaka cantonment residence by breaking open its main gate and evacuated her from the house. Khaleda said the members of law enforcement agencies cordoned off the residence since the midnight of Friday to evacuate her. Khaleda reached her Gulshan office in the afternoon after being evacuated from her Dhaka Cantonment residence.

Bangladesh's Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has resigned.
Former Supreme Court Chief Justice Mohammad Habibur Rahman has been sworn in as a caretaker prime minister.
The move ends a 2-year crisis that has paralyzed life and business in the impoverished country.
Prime Minister Khaleda Zia announced her resignation to more than 50-thousand of her supporters at a public rally in downtown Dhaka.
Her supporters continued to shout their approval of Zia and punch the air in defiance.
But after mounting pressure from opposition groups, in the end it appeared only Zia's resignation could end a 2-year crisis that has paralyzed life and business in impoverished Bangladesh.
Elsewhere in the capital, opposition activists were holding protests calling for Zia's resignation.
But as the news filtered through, many of the gatherings turned into celebrations.
Within an hour of Zia's resignation the main opposition leader, Sheik Hasina, called off her protests, calling it a "victory of the people".
Zia's resignation paved the way for a neutral interim government to supervise fresh elections within 90 days.
The main opposition parties boycotted the national elections held in February.
Street protests and political violence have left at least 227 people dead in the last two years.
But a senior opposition leader believes the troubles are now over.

"So the question of law and order going out of order doesn't come. It will be... it will be quiet because we are conscious about it. Somebody may try to create some problem and there will not be such a school because of the fact that people are totally united."

After Zia's resignation, many people came out onto the streets of Dhaka to celebrate. Riot police had to be called in to disperse the crowds.
Elsewhere, the jubilation was marred when police fired tear gas to disperse nearly 3-thousand protestors, injuring senior leaders of the Jatiya Party, made up of the three groups that fought for Zia's resignation.
The protestors were outside Dhaka's Central Jail demanding the release of deposed President Hussain Muhammad Ershad who is serving a 9-year jail term for corruption and abuse of power.
Eyewitnesses said at least 60 people were injured.
But in most places, the mood was one of relief as Zia's turbulent time in office is at an end.

Begum Khaleda Zia (Bengali: খালেদা জিয়া) is the former First Lady of Bangladesh (1977–1981), and then Prime Minister of Bangladesh, having served from 1991 to 1996, becoming the first woman in the country's history and second in the Muslim world (only after Ms Benazir Bhutto of Pakistan in 1988–1990) to head a democratic government as prime minister. She served again from 2001 until 2006. She is the widow of the President and former army chief Ziaur Rahman, who was assassinated in 1981, and leads his old party, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
Since the country's independence in 1971, Zia has spent around ten years ruling the country (being the longest-serving Prime Minister of Bangladesh). She has been elected to five separate parliamentary constituencies in the general elections of 1991, 1996 and 2001.
Forbes magazine ranked Mrs Zia at number 29 in 2005 and number 33 in 2006 in its list of the 100 Most Powerful Women in the World.
Khaleda Zia (Putul) was born on 15 August 1944 to Iskandar Majumder and Taiyaba Majumder in Birbhum district of West Bengal province, India and later migrated with her family to Dinajpur District. Khaleda Zia is the youngest in a family of four. She has two brothers, Major (Retd.) Sayeed Iskandar, a retired military official, and Shamim Iskander, an engineer of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, and two elder sisters, late Khurshid Jahan Hoq (Chocolate Aapa), former Women's Welfare Minister, and another sister who is deceased. The family originally hails from Fulgazi Upazila of Feni District, Bangladesh. She studied in Dinajpur Government Girls High School. In 1960, she married Ziaur Rahman. She is the current leader of the opposition party. She is also recognized as one of the stylish politicians.

তিনি আরও বলেন, “যারা বিগত আন্দোলনে রাজপথে ছিলো তাদের দিয়েই কমিটি গঠন করার নির্দেশ দিয়েছি। ভাই ভাইয়ের পকেট কমিটি আর করা চলবেনা! ওরা আমাকেও বলেছিল দেশের বাইরে চলে যেতে। তারেক রহমানকে ও বলেছিল, কোকোকে ও বলেছিল। কিন্তু আমি সহ ওরা সবাই বলেছে, এই দেশ ছেড়ে কোথায় যাবো ? এই দেশ আমার, এই দেশের মাটি আমার। দেশের বাইরে আমাদের কিছু নেই, আমরা বাইরে যাবো না। আমি যাইও নি। কিন্তু হাসিনা ঠিকই দেশের বাইরে চলে গিয়েছিল। কারন হাসিনার সাথে মইনুদ্দিন ফখরুদ্দিনের কানেকশন ছিল। ফখরুদ্দিন মইনুদ্দিনের অবৈধ ঐ সরকারও চেয়েছিল বিএনপিকে ভাঙতে, হাসিনাও তাই চেষ্টা করছে। কিন্তু বিএনপি ঐক্যবদ্ধ থাকবে, বিএনপি ভাঙবে না। বিএনপি ঐক্যবদ্ধ ছিল, বিএনপি ঐক্যবদ্ধ আছে, ইনশাল্লাহ বিএনপি ঐক্যবদ্ধ থাকবে।”

Bangladesh's Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has resigned.
Former Supreme Court Chief Justice Mohammad Habibur Rahman has been sworn in as a caretaker prime minister.
The move ends a 2-year crisis that has paralyzed life and business in the impoverished country.
Prime Minister Khaleda Zia announced her resignation to more than 50-thousand of her supporters at a public rally in downtown Dhaka.
Her supporters continued to shout their approval of Zia and punch the air in defiance.
But after mounting pressure from opposition groups, in the end it appeared only Zia's resignation could end a 2-year crisis that has paralyzed life and business in impoverished Bangladesh.
Elsewhere in the capital, opposition activists were holding protests calling for Zia's resignation.
But as the news filtered through, many of the gatherings turned into celebrations.
Within an hour of Zia's resignation the main opposition leader, Sheik Hasina, called off her protests, calling it a "victory of the people".
Zia's resignation paved the way for a neutral interim government to supervise fresh elections within 90 days.
The main opposition parties boycotted the national elections held in February.
Street protests and political violence have left at least 227 people dead in the last two years.
But a senior opposition leader believes the troubles are now over.

"So the question of law and order going out of order doesn't come. It will be... it will be quiet because we are conscious about it. Somebody may try to create some problem and there will not be such a school because of the fact that people are totally united."

After Zia's resignation, many people came out onto the streets of Dhaka to celebrate. Riot police had to be called in to disperse the crowds.
Elsewhere, the jubilation was marred when police fired tear gas to disperse nearly 3-thousand protestors, injuring senior leaders of the Jatiya Party, made up of the three groups that fought for Zia's resignation.
The protestors were outside Dhaka's Central Jail demanding the release of deposed President Hussain Muhammad Ershad who is serving a 9-year jail term for corruption and abuse of power.
Eyewitnesses said at least 60 people were injured.
But in most places, the mood was one of relief as Zia's turbulent time in office is at an end.

Since 2009, Tarique Rahman has been elected as Senior Vice Chairman of Bangladesh Nationalist Party. Tarique was the youngest leader to become Joint Secretary-General of BNP. He was elevated to this position in June 2002, in response to rising demand from ranks and files of the Party, in recognition of his contribution in 2001 general election, which brought a landslide victory. Tarique identified the challenges for BNP and planned its strategies and tactics to cope with the situation. In 1998, he established a research cell for the party and drew in the expertise of academics, professionals and business entrepreneurs along with the experiences, of politicians to plan for the future of the party.
Tarique worked to establish a competitive edge in the textiles industry and in the river transport sector. However, his passion has remained in politics, being inspired by the ideals of his father as well as his mother. Ziaur Rahman was a charismatic leader who declared Independence in March 1971. On 7 November 1975 Ziaur Rahman once again captured the imagination of the people, when he was freed from captivity through a mass upsurge defeating the traitors and agents of foreign power. Ziaur Rahman re-introduced popular democracy, multi-party system, free press and open market policy. He was extremely popular and was elected President of the country in 1978. Tarique Rahman was a teenager when his father was assassinated in 1981.
Rahman favors of promoting investments for industrialization and development of the service and IT sectors of Bangladesh. He believes in the expansion of the country’s private sector.
Tareq accompanied his mother BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, during the election campaign in 1991. She was the first woman to be elected Prime Minister of Bangladesh and has been elected to this post thrice. Tarique worked closely for the Party during the general election campaign in 1996. Since then he has been involved intensively in his home district, Bogra, to institutionalize a democratic culture in the Party. His efforts, commonly known as the `Bogra Model’, which has become very popular among the root level party workers, have resulted in a system of electing Party leadership from the grassroots.
Tarique was born on November 20, 1967 to Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia. He has attended Dhaka Residential School and College and passed SSC. Later he been in Adamjee Cantonment Public School & College and passed HSC. He went to Dhaka University and obtained Honours degree at International Relation in 1988.
