The CPU design used in the video is copyrighted by John Scott, author of the book But How Do It Know?.
There are a few small differences between the CPU in the video and the one used in the book. Those differences are listed below but they should not detract from your understanding of either.
CONTROL UNIT - This component is called the Control Section in the book. It is called Control Unit here simply because that is a more common name for it that you might see used elsewhere.
LOAD INSTRUCTION - In this video, what's called a LOAD instruction is actually called a DATA instruction in the book. The Scott CPU uses two different instructions to move data from RAM into the CPU. One loads the very next piece of data (called a DATA instruction in the book) and the other uses another register to tell it which address to pull that data from (called a LOAD instruction in the book). The instruction was renamed in the video for two reasons: 1) It might be confusing to hear that the first type of data we encounter in RAM is itself also called DATA. 2) Since the LOAD instruction from the book is a more complex concept, it was easier to use the DATA instruction in the video to introduce the concept of moving data from RAM to the CPU .
IN and OUT INSTRUCTIONS - In the Scott CPU, there is more involved in moving data between the CPU and external devices than just an IN or an OUT instruction. That process was simplified in the video to make the introduction of the concept easier.
ACCUMULATOR - The register that holds the output of the ALU is called the Accumulator in the book. That is the name typically used for this register, although it was simply called a register in the video.
MEMORY ADDRESS REGISTER - The Memory Address Register is a part of RAM in the book, but it is a part of the CPU in the video. It was placed in the CPU in the video as this is generally where this register resides in real CPUs.
JUMP INSTRUCTIONS - In the book there are two types of unconditional JUMP instructions. One jumps to the address stored at the next address in RAM (this is the one used in the video) and the other jumps to an address that has already been stored in a register. These are called JMP and JMPR instructions in the book respectively.
MISSING COMPONENT - There is an additional component missing from the CPU in the video that is used to add 1 to the number stored in a register. This component is called "bus 1" in the book and it simply overrides the temporary register and sends the number 1 to the ALU as input B instead.
REVERSED COMPONENTS - The Instruction Register and the Instruction Address Register are in opposite positions in the diagrams used in the book. They are reversed in the video because the internal wiring of the control unit will be introduced in a subsequent video and keeping these registers in their original positions made that design process more difficult.
OP CODE WIRING - The wires used by the control unit to tell the ALU what type of operation to perform appear near the bottom of the ALU in the video, but near the top of the ALU in the book. They were reversed for a similar reason as the one listed above. The wiring of the ALU will be introduced in a subsequent video and keeping these wires at the top of the ALU made the design process more difficult.

The central processing unit (CPU, occasionally central processor unit) is the hardware within a computer system which carries out the instructions of a computer program by performing the basic arithmetical, logical, and input/output operations of the system. The CPU plays a role somewhat analogous to the brain in the computer. The term has been in use in the computer industry at least since the early 1960s. The form, design, and implementation of CPUs have changed dramatically since the earliest examples, but their fundamental operation remains much the same.
On large machines, CPUs require one or more printed circuit boards. On personal computers and small workstations, the CPU is housed in a single silicon chip called a microprocessor. Since the 1970s the microprocessor class of CPUs has almost completely overtaken all other CPU implementations. Modern CPUs are large scale integrated circuits in packages typically less than four centimeters square, with hundreds of connecting pins.
Two typical components of a CPU are the arithmetic logic unit (ALU), which performs arithmetic and logical operations, and the control unit (CU), which extracts instructions from memory and decodes and executes them, calling on the ALU when necessary.

I'm going to try and help explain what a CPU (Processor) is and what the specs associated with it mean Transcript: CPU also known as processor stands for central processing unit. This is what does the calculations in your computer and is most probably the main contributor to the speed and responsiveness for your system. The speed of clock frequency refers to how many cycles the processor goes through in a second. A 3.0 ghz processor does 3 million cycles per second. Obviously the more cycles the faster the unit, however the efficiency of each cycle is also important. The efficiency of each cycle is known as IPC, instruction per cycle. There are a few small differences between the CPU in the video and the one used in the book. Those differences are listed below but they should not detract from your understanding of either.
CONTROL UNIT - This component is called the Control Section in the book. It is called Control Unit here simply because that is a more common name for it that you might see used elsewhere.
LOAD INSTRUCTION - In this video, what's called a LOAD instruction is actually called a DATA instruction in the book. The Scott CPU uses two different instructions to move data from RAM into the CPU. One loads the very next piece of data (called a DATA instruction in the book) and the other uses another register to tell it which address to pull that data from (called a LOAD instruction in the book). The instruction was renamed in the video for two reasons: 1) It might be confusing to hear that the first type of data we encounter in RAM is itself also called DATA. 2) Since the LOAD instruction from the book is a more complex concept, it was easier to use the DATA instruction in the video to introduce the concept of moving data from RAM to the CPU .
IN and OUT INSTRUCTIONS - In the Scott CPU, there is more involved in moving data between the CPU and external devices than just an IN or an OUT instruction. That process was simplified in the video to make the introduction of the concept easier.
ACCUMULATOR - The register that holds the output of the ALU is called the Accumulator in the book. That is the name typically used for this register, although it was simply called a register in the video.
MEMORY ADDRESS REGISTER - The Memory Address Register is a part of RAM in the book, but it is a part of the CPU in the video. It was placed in the CPU in the video as this is generally where this register resides in real CPUs.
JUMP INSTRUCTIONS - In the book there are two types of unconditional JUMP instructions. One jumps to the address stored at the next address in RAM (this is the one used in the video) and the other jumps to an address that has already been stored in a register. These are called JMP and JMPR instructions in the book respectively.
MISSING COMPONENT - There is an additional component missing from the CPU in the video that is used to add 1 to the number stored in a register. This component is called "bus 1" in the book and it simply overrides the temporary register and sends the number 1 to the ALU as input B instead.
REVERSED COMPONENTS - The Instruction Register and the Instruction Address Register are in opposite positions in the diagrams used in the book. They are reversed in the video because the internal wiring of the control unit will be introduced in a subsequent video and keeping these registers in their original positions made that design process more difficult.
OP CODE WIRING - The wires used by the control unit to tell the ALU what type of operation to perform appear near the bottom of the ALU in the video, but near the top of the ALU in the book. In this small project I will show you how I repurposed an old AMD CPU to create a small, light and easy to use electric hand warmer. With the help of a small portable power bank this gadget can warm you up for around 2 and a half hours and can easily reach temperatures up to 60 degrees celcius.

I'm going to try and help explain what a CPU (Processor) is and what the specs associated with it mean
Transcript:
CPU also known as processor stands for central processing unit. This is what does the calculations in your computer and is most probably the main contributor to the speed and responsiveness for your system.
The speed of clock frequency refers to how many cycles the processor goes through in a second. A 3.0 ghz processor does 3 million cycles per second. Obviously the more cycles the faster the unit, however the efficiency of each cycle is also important.
The efficiency of each cycle is known as IPC, instruction per cycle.
Just to visualize this mini bit, imagine a man running. Your trying to get from point A to point B. The faster you run the faster you get there. However if you have a small stride then for every leg movement you don't cover much land. In the same way a CPU despite having a fast clock frequency must also have a large IPC.
Another concept of the processor is the cache.
The cache is simply ultra-fast accessible memory in the processor. The cache stores data temporarily which may be required from the CPU. If the CPU had to get data from the RAM modules, it would take time so most CPU's have the cache which will store data which can be sent fast to the CPU when it needs it. The bigger the cache the faster the CPU will be at performing tasks.
Theres also cores, you may have heard dual core, quad core and even hex core. Basically the more cores, the easier the CPU can deal with the data it is fed.
Now if you don't understand this, I don't blame you, I will try and visualize it. Imagine a river. The river is your processor as a whole. Garbage is chucked at one end of your river. The cache ensures that garbage is chucked in quickly. The garbage is data which needs to be processed. The rivers primary objective is to get rid of the garbage or process the information. The speed the river flows is the clock speed, the faster the river flows the faster the garbage will pass. The instruction per cycle is the effectiveness of each ripple. Cores are when the river splits into channels. It makes the river be able to easily distribute the garbage.
So the information passed through, the fast speed of the river meant that the data was processed fast and the multiple cores meant that the processor could do its tasks much more efficiently. The cache meant that the garbage could quickly be put in one end of the river.

ถือเป็นครั้งแรกนะครับที่ผมจะได้นำซีพียูจากทางฝั่ง Intel Xeon มาเขียนเป็นบทความให้ได้อ่านกัน หลังจากทั้งทดสอบและเขียนบทความซีพียูทางฝั่ง Intel Core I Series มาก็เยอะแล้ว และหากพูดถึงซีพียูในตระกูล Intel Xeon นั้นเพื่อนจะต้องนึกถึงซีพียูที่ใช้ในงาน server หรือ workstation อย่างแน่นอน มันจึงมีคำถามขึ้นมาว่าแล้วประสิทธิภาพระหว่างเจ้า Intel core I กับ Intel Xeon อันไหนแรงกว่ากัน อันไหนทำงานดีกว่ากัน อันไหนเล่นเกมดีกว่ากัน อันไหนทำงานดีกว่ากัน จริงๆนั้นก็คงต้องดูเป็นรุ่นๆไป ว่าความเร็วเท่าไหร่ มีกี่ core กี่ thread แต่ที่แน่ๆคือประสิทธิภาพจะดีหรือไม่ดี มันอยู่กับว่าเราเอาไปใช้งานด้านไหนมากกว่าครับ เพราะซีพียูทั้ง 2 ตระกูลนี้ออกแบบมาเพื่อใช้งานต่างกัน กล่าวคือหากนำซีพียูตระกูล Intel Xeon มาเล่นเกมหนักๆก็คงจะไม่ดีเท่าไหร่ หรือนำซีพียูตระกูล Intel Core I มาทำเครื่อง Server ก็ไม่ได้ความเสถียรและประสิทธิภาพเท่า Intel Xeon เช่นกัน ซึ่งบทความในวันนี้ผมจะหยิบยกเอาซีพียู Intel Xeon ตระกูล E5-2600 Series ในโมเดล E5-2620 มาเขียนรายละเอียดให้ได้อ่านกันว่าเจ้าซีพียูพวกนี้มันแตกต่างกันซีพียู Intel Core I อย่างไรบ้าง ซึ่งต้องเกริ่นก่อนว่า Intel Xeon E5-2600 Series นั้นรองรับการทำงานร่วมกับเมนบอร์ดซ็อคเก็ต LGA 2011 หรือ LGA 1356 เท่านั้น วันนี้ผมจึงขอหยิบยกเอา Intel Core I มาเปรียบเทียบเพื่อไขข้อสงสัยในความแตกต่างกันครับ
