SURRY COUNTY, N.C. -- This Surry County man gives old logs new life. Kevin Thomas, known by man as "the log whisperer," is an expert woodworker. He's worked with wood for years, but when his dad passed away, he wanted a way to pay tribute to him. "I remember this tree that me and my dad had talked about cutting down, and I thought the tree would make a good dough bowl," he said. So he chopped it down and created the bowl. Next thing he knew, he won an award for his art and people began asking for dough bowls.

There are animals both famous and unidentified roaming the Appalachian Mountains, and a group of hard-core hunters and trappers have managed to get their life's work to research them. For years, supposed sightings of the monsters -- with such labels as Wolfman, Devil Dog, Wampus Beast, Lizard and mothman Demon -- have occurred over the 1,500-mile stretch out of mountains, and it wasn't before participants of the Appalachian Researchers of Mysterious Sightings acquired their own private encounters with these animals that they truly became believers. Now, the Goals team, led by founders "Trapper" John Tice, Jeff Headlee and Willy McQuillian, use both traditional techniques and modern tools to track, take and capture these monsters.

Kewaunee's Message to Wood County
It is too late for the Kewaunee county residents to prevent the CAFOs from invading the place they call home. They are forced to resort to holding what ground they have by attempting to do what the state will not, regulate the CAFOs and hold them accountable to the havoc they are wreaking on the county's water. In this meeting, they took a stand to enact a "Groundwater Protection Ordinance" that would extend the requisite soil depth down to the carbonate bedrock from 5 feet to 20 feet. It's not too late for Wood County to keep itself safe from the CAFOs. Not yet.
