Many people don't realize that your car tells you a lot about its state of being. One of the less obvious ways it does this is by hyperflashing the turn signal. What does this mean?

Some cars will inform you of a defective light through an information display or (as I mentioned in the video) a light on the dashboard. And some may not warn you of problems at all. That's why it's always important to periodically check your car's lighting to make sure everything is working OK. Just ask a friend to step on the brake for you and operate the turn signals--then you'll know for sure that everything's in tip-top shape.
Regardless, if one day your turn signal on one side suddenly speeds up, take a look at the bulbs. One of them is most likely out.

Turn signal circuits are often an area of trouble for technicians. In all cases, the turn signal switch is also in charge of the hazard lights and to make matters worse, the hazard and the turn signal switch is often a separate unit. Here in this section, we'll not concentrate on the hazard switch, but simply explain how to wire the entire turn signal system. The idea is to offer a way to make the turn signals operational if you have no parts available, due to the vehicle being out of the parts market, being too rare or just due to the high costs. In actuality, this wiring arrangement can be used even if you have no turn signal switch, which would then be substituted using standard buttons or flip switches.
This circuit also employs a regular flasher unit right at the 12 volt input. The flasher unit feeds both relays. This is done for the sake of efficiency and to reduce costs. The only drawback to using one flasher is that whenever the hazard is activated, the lights will flash at a faster rate.
Let's analyze this circuit:
Power is fed from the 12 volt supply, through the fuse and to one side of the flasher unit. The other side of the flasher feeds terminals.... Get the whole story right now in this video...Enjoy...

The lighting system of a motor vehicle consists of lighting and signalling devices mounted or integrated to the front, sides, rear, and in some cases the top of the motor vehicle. The purpose of this system is to provide illumination for the driver to operate the vehicle safely after dark, to increase the conspicuity of the vehicle, and to display information about the vehicle's presence, position, size, direction of travel, and driver's intentions regarding direction and speed of travel.
The colour of light emitted by vehicle lights is largely standardised by longstanding convention, first codified in the 1949 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic and later specified in the 1968 United Nations Convention on Road Traffic. Generally, but with some regional exceptions, lamps facing rearward must emit red light, lamps facing sideward and all turn signals must emit amber light, lamps facing frontward must emit white or selective yellow light, and no other colours are permitted except on emergency vehicles.

My turn signal in my 2007 HHR quit cancelling, I would finish my turn and the signal would keep going. This video shows how to remove the turn signal lever, fix the cancel function, then re-install the lever on a Chevrolet HHR. This cancel function fix will also work on other GM models with the same turn signal lever. (Chev Cobalt, Equinox; Pontiac Pursuit, Torrent, G5; Saturn Sky; Suzuki XL-7). The instruction for fixing the cancel function of the Turn Signal starts at about 3:50 in the video. It is hard to see (I am going to reshoot), but I turn one of the springs. The theory is that the spring, over time, gets bent the wrong way, and turning it around fixes the cancel problem.

1997 F150 turn signal / 4 way fix
My four ways did not work, only the left signal would come one. After i would turn on my four ways i would turn the right turn signal on and then after every thing was off they would work temporarily. In this video i show how to get to the relays for the turn signal/four ways. I don't have an actual fix i just took mine out and re plugged it in. I figured it must have been a bad connection. -

Turn signal circuits are often an area of trouble for technicians. In all cases, the turn signal switch is also in charge of the hazard lights and to make matters worse, the hazard and the turn signal switch is often a separate unit. Here in this section, we'll not concentrate on the hazard switch, but simply explain how to wire the entire turn signal system. The idea is to offer a way to make the turn signals operational if you have no parts available, due to the vehicle being out of the parts market, being too rare or just due to the high costs. In actuality, this wiring arrangement can be used even if you have no turn signal switch, which would then be substituted using standard buttons or flip switches.
This circuit also employs a regular flasher unit right at the 12 volt input. The flasher unit feeds both relays. This is done for the sake of efficiency and to reduce costs. The only drawback to using one flasher is that whenever the hazard is activated, the lights will flash at a faster rate.
Let's analyze this circuit:

After i would turn on my four ways i would turn the right turn signal on and then after every thing was off they would work temporarily. In this video i show how to get to the relays for the turn signal/four ways. I don't have an actual fix i just took mine out and re plugged it in. I figured it must have been a bad connection.

In this video we are showing you how to replace the tail light bulbs and the tail light itself on Mercedes W163. We will show you which bulb is for reverse light, for the rear turn signal, brake light, and fog light(if equipped).
It will be exactly the same procedure for the right and left tail light, rear left, rear right turn signal, brake/stop light. We demonstrated on a 2003 ML320 right tail light but it will be the same for all ML from 1998 to 2005.

Hopefully this video helps people understand whats going on here. This switch is really one of the more simple DIY jobs, but obviously it can get complex. Thanks to the guys at swedespeed for their advice. On the 87 (Please note, this video is not for other models) it's one piece for both the headlights, high beams, blinkers and parking lights/running lights and the wiper/sprayer levers.
This is my first 'how-to' video that I've posted for car repair. It's long but it is very detailed.
I've tried to incorporate an index at the start of the video to make sections easy to locate and I used a high resolution camera to clearly show details of the work.
This video is for an older vehicle without airbags, for newer vehicles with airbags you should reference relevant documentation or take it to a professional. Airbags can be deadly and are also expensive to replace if you set them off.
You can get a bit more life out of it by repairing it. I shot this video to show the steps of removal, repair and replacement, but you can skip the repair step if you have a new/used part. It's probably not a bad idea to check the used part because there's a chance it's in bad condition too.
You can also use these steps to clean up the wiper combination switch as well, but the dis-assembly of the wiper switch is not shown in this video.
This takes about 1.5 hours to do and requires some level of mechanical ability. This can fix some of the following problems:
* Headlights are on but interior lights and parking lights/running lights/tail lights are off or the other way around.
* High beams don't come are, are stuck on, or other high beam issues.
* Blinkers one one side or the other don't turn on or work intermittently, fiddling with the blinker lever can make them work sometimes.
Notes:
There are some terminology glitches which I've corrected with annotations/pop-up text throughout the video.
It's fine to use dielectric grease on the non-electrical components of the switch and you can use it on the actual contacts themselves. The silicone in dielectric grease will break down eventually from arcs and sparks in normal operation of the switch and when it does it creates silicate.. basically it becomes gritty and can damage the contacts. If you're going for a long term repair you'll probably want to use a white Lithium based grease such as Lubriplate DS-ES (around $5US for a 1.75oz tube) or something along those lines on the actual contacts themselves.
If you open the switch and find that it is melted inside, the switch is likely too far gone to repair and you will need to replace it. The only way to know for sure is to open it up and look.
In other models/makes of cars the combination switches may consist of separate left and right units which can be removed without having to remove the entire steering wheel. You'll steel need to remove the covers from the steering column and the dis-assembly/assembly is unlikely to be what you see in the video.
I welcome comments or suggestions, but please keep it civil and friendly.

Plug the wires in to the 1 and 5 slots on the Limited and Premium and in to the 1 and 4 slots on the base model. See picture below.

After you unplug the driver side window switch, the Auto Up/Down feature will not work. You can easily recalibrate it by simply rolling down the window and then rolling it up and holding it for 2-3 seconds after it closes. It should start working after that.
