The Peace Arch is a monument situated near the westernmost point of the Canada–United States border, between the communities of Blaine, Washington and Surrey, British Columbia. The Peace Arch, which stands 20.5 metres (67 ft) tall, was built by Sam Hill and dedicated in September 1921, and commemorates the signing of the Treaty of Ghent in 1814. The monument is built on the exact United States–Canada boundary, between Interstate 5 and Highway 99, in the grass median between the northbound and southbound lanes. The Peace Arch has the flags of the US and Canada mounted on its crown, and two inscriptions on both sides of its frieze. The inscription on the US side of the Peace Arch reads "Children of a common mother", and the words on the Canadian side read "Brethren dwelling together in unity". Within the arch, each side has an iron gate mounted on either side of the border with an inscription above reading "May these gates never be closed".
Peace Arch Park consists of Peace Arch Provincial Park on the Canadian side and Peace Arch State Park on the American side of the border. Within the park is a major border crossing (between Interstate 5 on the U.S. side and British Columbia Highway 99 on the Canadian side). The Peace Arch symbolizes a long history of peace between the two nations. Because of the Peace Arch monument, the border crossing between Surrey and Blaine is popularly known as the "Peace Arch Border Crossing". In Canada, the crossing is officially named Douglas in honour of Sir James Douglas, the first governor of the Colony of British Columbia. It is one of the busiest border crossings between Canada and the United States, and the busiest such crossing west of Detroit.
Blaine is a city in Whatcom County, Washington, United States. The city's northern boundary is the Canadian border. Blaine is the shared home of the Peace Arch international monument. The population was 4,684 at the 2010 census. Since Blaine is located right on the border with Canada, it is the northernmost city on Interstate 5, while the southernmost city is San Ysidro.
The area was first settled in the mid-19th century by pioneers who established the town as a seaport for the west coast logging and fishing industries, and as a jumping off point for prospectors heading to British Columbia's gold fields. Blaine was officially incorporated on May 20, 1890, and was named after James G. Blaine (1830−1893), who was a U.S. senator from the state of Maine, Secretary of State, and, in 1884, the unsuccessful Republican presidential candidate. The city has a "turn-of-the-century" theme, marked by remodeled buildings and signs resembling designs that existed during the late 19th century and early 20th century.

This is the last unguarded, unrestricted, unfenced international border park between the United States and Canada. It is called the Peace Arch Park and is located just south of Vancouver, Canada at Blaine, Washington. Citizens of both countries are free to walk into the park and can enter and use the park on both sides of the border unrestricted and with no passport control. There are no fences or barriers and there are no looming border guards on either side. Often this park is used for weddings and family reunion gatherings in summer, as it eliminates any need for passports for citizens of either country. On 9 February 2010, the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay visited the Peace Arch. The monument marks 100 years of peace between Canada and the United States (after the War of 1...
Blaine Washington is quietly undergoing an amazing transformation as Entrepreneurs, City leaders and it's citizens embrace thoughtful progress while cherishing it's rich Maritime and Historic past.
Blaine Washington is located right on the US/Canadian Border in Northwest Washington. Blaine WA is also home to the Peace Arch Park along with White Rock British Columbia. Some residents of Blaine have proposed the city change it's name to Blaine Harbor but the city voted it down. Some people choose to call it Blaine Harbor anyway. The Peace Arch Park allows you to visit both countries and walk across the border. The park is especially beautiful in the spring time when both countries seem to try and out do each other with their flower displays. Admission to the park is FREE. Blaine Washington has a popular boating harbor with both American and Canadian vessels. Semiahmoo is a gated golf community on the West side of Drayton Harbor. Semiahmoo was once home to the largest Salmon Cannery in...

Glimpses of Italy: The Arch of Peace in Milan, 17 October 2014. It is a Triumphal Arch whose Italian name is Arco della Pace (Arch of Peace). It is part of the City Gate of Milan called Porta Sempione (Simplon Gate). The Arch of Peace was built by Architect Luigi Cagnola during the Napoleonic Rule. Its construction started in 1807. Its construction was stalled when the Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy fell and Milan was conquered by the Austrian Empire. Its construction was resumed again by Cagnola and, in 1826, Emperor Francis II, dedicated this monument to the 1815 Congress of Vienna. When Cagnola died in 1833, his project was taken over by Francesco Londonio and Francesco Peverelli, who completed it in 1838. Before we had the Interstate Highway System, the US Highways were the 'Inter-state' highways from the 1920's until the Interstates first appeared in the late 1950's and though these highways still exist, many US highways slowly were phased out, as redundant to the newer limited access highways they were often adjacent to. So on April 5, 2014, I made this road trip this road trip from Seattle to Portland as if you were to drive the route of US 99 (and Oregon US 99 West into Portland) from 70 years ago - and captured over 1 1/2 hours of scenes with my HP f200 dash cam. At that time, US 99 (and until the mid 1960's) was the main north - south route connecting major cities along the Pacific Coast States, from the Canadian border at Blaine, WA to Mexicali, CA on the Mexican border - and basic...

When we started everything seemed shiny and bright
Beyond our means but not quite out of reach
How far beyond do you think we need to go
Cause I don't want to live that way
Amberwood
It doesn't matter what we planned to do this time
Those plans are being laid aside again
Unforeseen is my new middle name
But I don't want to live this way

Take a second
Take a minute
Take an hour
Take a week
To decide how it all will turn out
And in that second
In that minute
In that hour in that week
You will know if your ready to go
And if it's worth it all
Its not as far away as you might think it is
People are doing these things everyday
I don't see how they're much better than us
But they don't have to live this way
