Ps. My guitar isn't plugged in in the video, I always record the audio before the video, and while recording the video i play along to the recorded tracks. hope that's not too annoying. I noticed since this video that a lot of people get annoyed with it so I don't really do that anymore.
Pps. I apologize if my guitar sounds out of tune, I always tune before recording anything but my intonation was off. shortly after this video I re-intonated it though.

If you want to add an extra layer of dirt to your guitar sound then you need to explore the world of drive pedals, and there are a few different flavours to consider. Most commonly you'll be looking at boost, overdrive, distortion and fuzz. Each one adds a different layer of filth to your guitar sound.
Boost does exactly what it sounds like. It boosts the signal from your guitar, thus driving the front of your amp harder, allowing your riffs and solos to really push through the mix.
Overdrive is designed to hit the front of your amp harder still, whilst still maintaining the character of your guitar's tone. Overdrive is typically used in classic rock and blues styles.
Distortion has a harder, more aggressive sound, found more commonly in metal, hard rock and punk.
Fuzz is neither subtle, nor is it polite, but it does offer gain in spades and has been used to devastating effect since the birth of rock.

A distortion is the alteration of the original shape (or other characteristic) of an object, image, sound, waveform or other form of information or representation. Distortion is usually unwanted, and often many methods are employed to minimize it in practice. In some fields, however, distortion may be desirable; such is the case with electric guitar distortion.
The addition of noise or other extraneous signals (hum, interference) is not considered to be distortion, though the effects of quantization distortion are sometimes considered noise. A quality measure that explicitly reflects both the noise and the distortion is the Signal-to-noise-and-distortion (SINAD) ratio.
In telecommunication and signal processing, a noise-free "system" can be characterised by a transfer function, such that the output Failed to parse (Missing texvc executable; please see math/README to configure.): y(t)
When the transfer function comprises only a perfect gain constant A and perfect delay T
the output is undistorted. Distortion occurs when the transfer function F is more complicated than this. If F is a linear function, for instance a filter whose gain and/or delay varies with frequency, then the signal will experience linear distortion. Linear distortion will not change the shape of a single sinuosoid, but will usually change the shape of a multi-tone signal.

If you want to add an extra layer of dirt to your guitar sound then you need to explore the world of drive pedals, and there are a few different flavours to consider. Most commonly you'll be looking at boost, overdrive, distortion and fuzz. Each one adds a different layer of filth to your guitar sound.
Boost does exactly what it sounds like. It boosts the signal from your guitar, thus driving the front of your amp harder, allowing your riffs and solos to really push through the mix.
