Lucky Penny Thoughts: I like the simplicity of this maker. You can use any ice cream mix you want to use. The Blizzard mix came out nice. I never expected it to be like the version you get at Dairy Queen. Those are commercial machines that can't be duplicated at home. The process of making ice cream, especially for the younger kids is something that is fun to watch and do.

D.Q. Corp, often called Dairy Queen, is a chain of soft serve and fast food restaurants owned by International Dairy Queen, Inc, which also owns Orange Julius and Karmelkorn. The first Dairy Queen store opened in 1940 in Kankakee, Illinois. The company's corporate offices are located in the Minneapolis suburb of Edina, Minnesota.
With Dairy Queen being one of the largest soft serve franchises in the world, their main competition includes: Baskin-Robbins, Ben & Jerry's, Braum's, Carvel, Culver's, Foster's Freeze, Good Times Burgers & Frozen Custard, McDonald's, Sonic Drive-In, Tastee Freez, and TCBY.
History
The soft serve formula was first developed in 1938 by John Fremont "Grandpa" McCullough, (1871‒1963), and his son Bradley.[1] They convinced friend and loyal customer Sheb Noble to offer the product in his ice cream store in Kankakee, Illinois. On the first day of sales, Noble dished out more than 1,600 servings of the new dessert within two hours.[8] Noble and the McCulloughs went on to open the first Dairy Queen store in 1940 in Joliet, Illinois. While this Dairy Queen has not been in operation since the 1950s, the building still stands at 501 N Chicago St. as a city-designated landmark.[9] Since 1940, DQ has used a franchise system to expand its operations globally. The state with the most Dairy Queen restaurants is Texas. The Texas Dairy Queen Operators' Council facilitates marketing and the food system in Texas. Dairy Queen International is the parent company of Dairy Queen. In the US, it operates under American Dairy Queen. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway. At the end of its fiscal year 2006, Dairy Queen reported over 5,600 stores in more than a dozen countries; about 4,600 of its stores (approximately 85%) were located in the United States.
DQ was an early pioneer of food franchising, expanding its 10 stores in 1941 to 100 by 1947, 1,446 in 1950, and 2,600 in 1955. The first store in Canada opened in Melville, Saskatchewan, in 1953. The red Dairy Queen symbol was introduced in 1959. The company became International Dairy Queen, Inc. (IDQ) in 1962. In 1987, IDQ bought the Orange Julius chain. It was acquired by Berkshire Hathaway in 1998. Dairy Queens were a fixture of social life in small towns of the Midwestern and Southern United States during the 1950s and 1960s. In that role, they have often come to be referenced as a symbol of life in small-town America, as in Walter Benjamin at the Dairy Queen: Reflections at Sixty and Beyond by Larry McMurtry, Dairy Queen Days by Robert Inman, and Chevrolet Summers, Dairy Queen Nights by Bob Greene.
In 1990, DQ introduced the Breeze, a healthier option of the Blizzard made with frozen yogurt. In 2000, the Breeze was removed from the menu as there was little demand such that the frozen yogurt was going bad before it could be used.

9/19/13 - Humble, and hard-working, Joey Prusak is being called a Good Samaritan -- but he doesn't care for the title. "The owner asked why I didn't tell him," Prusak explained. "I said I didn't think I needed to. I didn't think I needed to tell anyone, and I didn't tell anyone." The owners of the Dairy Queen on Main Street in Hopkins had no idea what happened until they got an anonymous e-mail passed along from corporate.
It starts off reading: "Dear owner, I was at your store on September 10th having lunch. I was in line as one of your employees was serving a gentleman."
Prusak told FOX 9 News the man was a regular customer.
"He always pays with a debit card," Prusak said. "I don't know if he is partially blind or fully blind or what the situation is."
While paying, the man unknowingly dropped a $20 bill on the ground. Prusak watched as the woman standing in line behind the customer picked it up the money and put it in her purse.
The witness's letter goes onto say, "Before I could say something to her, your employee stepped in. He politely asked her to give the money back to the young man who was blind."
"I was like, 'If you are not going to return the money, please leave the store. She said, 'It's mine.' I said, 'Please leave the store,'" Prusak recalled.
In the letter the owners received, the witness said she never expected what happened next.
"Your employee approached the man and took out his wallet and said, 'Sir, on behalf of the Dairy Queen, I would like to give you the $20 you dropped on the ground."
After reading the anonymous letter, Prusak's boss, Nancy Pettit, posted the letter for all her employees to read. Someone also put it on Facebook, and from there, it went viral. In fact, Prusak spent much of his Wednesday talking to reporters from around the country, including Yahoo News and the Huffington Post.
"It's nice to see a young man do the right thing and get recognized for it," Pettit said. "I just feel very blessed to have such a wonderful young man working at my shop."
While FOX9 cameras were at the Dairy Queen on Main Street in Hopkins, another customer who heard about the story decided to pay it forward, handing Prusak 20 bucks.
"It's nice to know there are still people like that in this world," said Angela Reed.
That wasn't the first "reward" Prusak has received since the letter starting circulating. He says he would prefer not to take the money and would rather just assume others will do what he did.
"I didn't expect anything, nor did I want anything," Prusak said. "It wasn't anything I wouldn't have done on any other day. I hope everyone else would have done the same thing -- which I think 99 out of 100 people would have."

With Dairy Queen being one of the largest soft serve franchises in the world, their main competition includes: Baskin-Robbins, Ben & Jerry's, Braum's, Carvel, Culver's, Foster's Freeze, Good Times Burgers & Frozen Custard, McDonald's, Sonic Drive-In, Tastee Freez, and TCBY. History The soft serve formula was first developed in 1938 by John Fremont "Grandpa" McCullough, (1871‒1963), and his son Bradley.[1] They convinced friend and loyal customer Sheb Noble to offer the product in his ice cream store in Kankakee, Illinois. On the first day of sales, Noble dished out more than 1,600 servings of the new dessert within two hours.[8] Noble and the McCulloughs went on to open the first Dairy Queen store in 1940 in Joliet, Illinois. While this Dairy Queen has not been in operation since the 1950s, the building still stands at 501 N Chicago St. as a city-designated landmark.[9] Since 1940, DQ has used a franchise system to expand its operations globally. The state with the most Dairy Queen restaurants is Texas. The Texas Dairy Queen Operators' Council facilitates marketing and the food system in Texas. Dairy Queen International is the parent company of Dairy Queen. In the US, it operates under American Dairy Queen. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway. At the end of its fiscal year 2006, Dairy Queen reported over 5,600 stores in more than a dozen countries; about 4,600 of its stores (approximately 85%) were located in the United States. DQ was an early pioneer of food franchising, expanding its 10 stores in 1941 to 100 by 1947, 1,446 in 1950, and 2,600 in 1955. The first store in Canada opened in Melville, Saskatchewan, in 1953. The red Dairy Queen symbol was introduced in 1959. The company became International Dairy Queen, Inc. (IDQ) in 1962. In 1987, IDQ bought the Orange Julius chain. It was acquired by Berkshire Hathaway in 1998. Dairy Queens were a fixture of social life in small towns of the Midwestern and Southern United States during the 1950s and 1960s. In that role, they have often come to be referenced as a symbol of life in small-town America, as in Walter Benjamin at the Dairy Queen: Reflections at Sixty and Beyond by Larry McMurtry, Dairy Queen Days by Robert Inman, and Chevrolet Summers, Dairy Queen Nights by Bob Greene. In 1990, DQ introduced the Breeze, a healthier option of the Blizzard made with frozen yogurt. In 2000, the Breeze was removed from the menu as there was little demand such that the frozen yogurt was going bad before it could be used. -

9/19/13 - Humble, and hard-working, Joey Prusak is being called a Good Samaritan -- but he doesn't care for the title. "The owner asked why I didn't tell him," Prusak explained. "I said I didn't think I needed to. I didn't think I needed to tell anyone, and I didn't tell anyone." The owners of the Dairy Queen on Main Street in Hopkins had no idea what happened until they got an anonymous e-mail passed along from corporate. It starts off reading: "Dear owner, I was at your store on September 10th having lunch. I was in line as one of your employees was serving a gentleman." Prusak told FOX 9 News the man was a regular customer. "He always pays with a debit card," Prusak said. "I don't know if he is partially blind or fully blind or what the situation is." While paying, the man unknowingly dropped a $20 bill on the ground. Prusak watched as the woman standing in line behind the customer picked it up the money and put it in her purse. The witness's letter goes onto say, "Before I could say something to her, your employee stepped in. He politely asked her to give the money back to the young man who was blind." "I was like, 'If you are not going to return the money, please leave the store. She said, 'It's mine.' I said, 'Please leave the store,'" Prusak recalled. In the letter the owners received, the witness said she never expected what happened next. "Your employee approached the man and took out his wallet and said, 'Sir, on behalf of the Dairy Queen, I would like to give you the $20 you dropped on the ground." After reading the anonymous letter, Prusak's boss, Nancy Pettit, posted the letter for all her employees to read. Someone also put it on Facebook, and from there, it went viral. In fact, Prusak spent much of his Wednesday talking to reporters from around the country, including Yahoo News and the Huffington Post. "It's nice to see a young man do the right thing and get recognized for it," Pettit said. "I just feel very blessed to have such a wonderful young man working at my shop." While FOX9 cameras were at the Dairy Queen on Main Street in Hopkins, another customer who heard about the story decided to pay it forward, handing Prusak 20 bucks. "It's nice to know there are still people like that in this world," said Angela Reed. That wasn't the first "reward" Prusak has received since the letter starting circulating. He says he would prefer not to take the money and would rather just assume others will do what he did. "I didn't expect anything, nor did I want anything," Prusak said. "It wasn't anything I wouldn't have done on any other day. I hope everyone else would have done the same thing -- which I think 99 out of 100 people would have." Lucky Penny Thoughts: I like the simplicity of this maker. You can use any ice cream mix you want to use. The Blizzard mix came out nice. I never expected it to be like the version you get at Dairy Queen. Those are commercial machines that can't be duplicated at home. The process of making ice cream, especially for the younger kids is something that is fun to watch and do.

With Dairy Queen being one of the largest soft serve franchises in the world, their main competition includes: Baskin-Robbins, Ben & Jerry's, Braum's, Carvel, Culver's, Foster's Freeze, Good Times Burgers & Frozen Custard, McDonald's, Sonic Drive-In, Tastee Freez, and TCBY.
History
The soft serve formula was first developed in 1938 by John Fremont "Grandpa" McCullough, (1871‒1963), and his son Bradley.[1] They convinced friend and loyal customer Sheb Noble to offer the product in his ice cream store in Kankakee, Illinois. On the first day of sales, Noble dished out more than 1,600 servings of the new dessert within two hours.[8] Noble and the McCulloughs went on to open the first Dairy Queen store in 1940 in Joliet, Illinois. While this Dairy Queen has not been in operation since the 1950s, the building still stands at 501 N Chicago St. as a city-designated landmark.[9] Since 1940, DQ has used a franchise system to expand its operations globally. The state with the most Dairy Queen restaurants is Texas. The Texas Dairy Queen Operators' Council facilitates marketing and the food system in Texas. Dairy Queen International is the parent company of Dairy Queen. In the US, it operates under American Dairy Queen. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway. At the end of its fiscal year 2006, Dairy Queen reported over 5,600 stores in more than a dozen countries; about 4,600 of its stores (approximately 85%) were located in the United States.
DQ was an early pioneer of food franchising, expanding its 10 stores in 1941 to 100 by 1947, 1,446 in 1950, and 2,600 in 1955. The first store in Canada opened in Melville, Saskatchewan, in 1953. 9/19/13 - Humble, and hard-working, Joey Prusak is being called a Good Samaritan -- but he doesn't care for the title. "The owner asked why I didn't tell him," Prusak explained. "I said I didn't think I needed to. I didn't think I needed to tell anyone, and I didn't tell anyone." The owners of the Dairy Queen on Main Street in Hopkins had no idea what happened until they got an anonymous e-mail passed along from corporate.
It starts off reading: "Dear owner, I was at your store on September 10th having lunch. I was in line as one of your employees was serving a gentleman."
Prusak told FOX 9 News the man was a regular customer.
"He always pays with a debit card," Prusak said. "I don't know if he is partially blind or fully blind or what the situation is."
While paying, the man unknowingly dropped a $20 bill on the ground. Prusak watched as the woman standing in line behind the customer picked it up the money and put it in her purse.
The witness's letter goes onto say, "Before I could say something to her, your employee stepped in. He politely asked her to give the money back to the young man who was blind."
"I was like, 'If you are not going to return the money, please leave the store. She said, 'It's mine.' I said, 'Please leave the store,'" Prusak recalled.
In the letter the owners received, the witness said she never expected what happened next.
"Your employee approached the man and took out his wallet and said, 'Sir, on behalf of the Dairy Queen, I would like to give you the $20 you dropped on the ground."
After reading the anonymous letter, Prusak's boss, Nancy Pettit, posted the letter for all her employees to read. Someone also put it on Facebook, and from there, it went viral. In fact, Prusak spent much of his Wednesday talking to reporters from around the country, including Yahoo News and the Huffington Post.

9/19/13 - Humble, and hard-working, Joey Prusak is being called a Good Samaritan -- but he doesn't care for the title. "The owner asked why I didn't tell him," Prusak explained. "I said I didn't think I needed to. I didn't think I needed to tell anyone, and I didn't tell anyone." The owners of the Dairy Queen on Main Street in Hopkins had no idea what happened until they got an anonymous e-mail passed along from corporate.
It starts off reading: "Dear owner, I was at your store on September 10th having lunch. I was in line as one of your employees was serving a gentleman."
Prusak told FOX 9 News the man was a regular customer.
"He always pays with a debit card," Prusak said. "I don't know if he is partially blind or fully blind or what the situation is."
While paying, the man unknowingly dropped a $20 bill on the ground. Prusak watched as the woman standing in line behind the customer picked it up the money and put it in her purse.
The witness's letter goes onto say, "Before I could say something to her, your employee stepped in. He politely asked her to give the money back to the young man who was blind."
"I was like, 'If you are not going to return the money, please leave the store. She said, 'It's mine.' I said, 'Please leave the store,'" Prusak recalled.
In the letter the owners received, the witness said she never expected what happened next.
"Your employee approached the man and took out his wallet and said, 'Sir, on behalf of the Dairy Queen, I would like to give you the $20 you dropped on the ground."
After reading the anonymous letter, Prusak's boss, Nancy Pettit, posted the letter for all her employees to read. Someone also put it on Facebook, and from there, it went viral. In fact, Prusak spent much of his Wednesday talking to reporters from around the country, including Yahoo News and the Huffington Post.
