The given name Eric, Erik, or Erick is derived from the Old Norse name Eiríkr (or Eríkr in Eastern Scandinavia due to monophthongization). The first element, ei- is derived either from the older Proto-Norse *aina(z) meaning "one" or "alone" or from Proto-Norse *aiwa(z) meaning "ever" or "eternal". The second element -ríkr derives either from *rík(a)z meaning "ruler" or "prince" (cf. Gothic reiks) or from an even older Proto-Germanic *ríkiaz which meant "powerful" and "rich". The name is thus usually taken to mean "one ruler", "autocrat", "eternal ruler" or "ever powerful", "warrior", and "government".
The most common spelling in Scandinavia is Erik. In Norway, another form of the name (which has kept the Old Norse diphthong) Eirik is also commonly used. In Finland, the form Erkki is also used. The modern Icelandic version is Eiríkur, while the modern Faroese version is Eirikur. Éric [eʁik] is used in French, and in Germany Eric, Erik and Erich are used.
Although the name was in use in Anglo-Saxon England, its use was reinforced by Scandinavian settlers arriving before the Norman Invasion. It was an uncommon name in England until the Middle Ages, when it gained popularity, and finally became a common name in the 19th century. This was partly because of the publishing of the novel Eric, or, Little by Little by Frederick William Farrar in 1858.

Distinguished Danish artist Erik A. Frandsen here shares how the trance-like experience of a 35 days and 1,050-kilometre long walk was transferred into a stunning exhibition of multi-coloured mosaic columns and beautiful watercolour sketches. The exhibition is based on Frandsen’s 35 days and 1,050 kilometre long walk with his friend – Danish writer Thomas Boberg – from Gran San Bernado in Switzerland to Rome. Distinguished Danish artist Erik A. Frandsen here shares how the trance-like experience of a 35 days and 1,050-kilometre long walk was transferred into a stunning exhibition of multi-coloured mosaic columns and beautiful watercolour sketches.
The exhibition is based on Frandsen’s 35 days and 1,050 kilometre long walk with his friend – Danish writer Thomas Boberg – from Gran San Bernado in Switzerland to Rome. For Frandsen the very essence of the journey was walking itself and the locations, and the impressive colourful mosaic columns in the exhibition are thus ornamented with place names – some inverted.
“A large part of what it’s all about is finding the holes, where one isn’t obstructed.” During the walk Frandsen experienced a great freedom in doing sketches without having to worry whether they would actually be used for anything: “Having been there is enough.” The fast making of the sketches was a great contrast to the slow pace of creating the mosaics: “I really like those kinds of opposites.”
Erik August Frandsen (b. 1957) is a Danish self-taught artist who works with painting, graphics, drawing, photography, collage, mosaics, ceramics and film. In the 1970s he studied ceramics in Greece, trained as a sculpturer in Italy and went to Paris, France where he worked with graphics. In 1981 Frandsen moved to Copenhagen, Denmark, where he co-founded the artistic collective “Værkstedet Værst.” He was also part of the “det vilde maleri” (the wild painting) movement during the early 1980s. Frandsen’s art is exhibited in several international venues and in 1992 he was part of documenta in Kassel. In 1996 Frandsen received the Eckersbergs Medal, and in 2010 he was bestowed the Order of the Dannebrog (awarded by the Queen of Denmark). Find out more about him here: http://www.erikafrandsen.dk/

Programmet besøger sammen med landdistriktsforsker Johs. Nørregaard Frandsen landsbyerne Astrup, Rækker Mølle og Stadil i Ringkøbing-Skjern Kommune. Her er der forskellige eksempler på, hvordan en landsby kan etablere nye aktiviteter i gamle bygninger, der tidligere husede landbrugsrelaterede aktiviteter midt i landsbyen. For eksempel købmandsbutik og kontorfællesskab i lukkede mejerier og bryghus i en tidligere grovvarebygning. Budskabet er, at landsbyernes kulturarv er attraktive til både bosætning og erhverv, men indbyggerne skal selv gå foran i udviklingen, hvis man vil bevare landsbylivet. Når majs bliver til gas
Majshøsten i 2011 fra 11.000 hektar i Sønderjylland er ikke gemt som foder til malkekøer og slagtesvin. Majsen ender i stedet direkte i biogasanlæg syd for grænsen, hvor de tyske landmænd i stigende grad er i gang med at leje jord i Danmark til bio-majs. På den anden side af grænsen har statstilskud og langvarige aftaler om produktion af vedvarende energi nemlig på få år forandret landbrugsdriften og landskabet. Ikke bare med store majsmarker og biogasanlæg ved gårdene, men også med solceller på staldtagene og mange vindmøller. Faktisk har det været så attraktivt at producere energi, at mange tyske landmænd helt har stoppet fødevareproduktionen og kun dyrker majs til biogas. Spørgsmålet er, om vi vil se en tilsvarende udvikling i Danmark, hvis det bliver mere rentabelt for danske landmæ...

Kirsten Frandsen har det meste af sit liv haft tilknytning til Osted Fri- og Efterskole. Først som datter af skolens leder, senere som lærer. Kristen Frandsen fortæller som sin familie og de værdier, som hun er vokset op med. Musik var en del af familiens værdier. Selv er Kirsten Frandsen stadig musiklærer og organist, og hendes bror var Niels Henning Ørsted Pedersen.

Majshøsten i 2011 fra 11.000 hektar i Sønderjylland er ikke gemt som foder til malkekøer og slagtesvin. Majsen ender i stedet direkte i biogasanlæg syd for grænsen, hvor de tyske landmænd i stigende grad er i gang med at leje jord i Danmark til bio-majs.
På den anden side af grænsen har statstilskud og langvarige aftaler om produktion af vedvarende energi nemlig på få år forandret landbrugsdriften og landskabet. Ikke bare med store majsmarker og biogasanlæg ved gårdene, men også med solceller på staldtagene og mange vindmøller.

Dansk vin opfattes fortsat af mange som en kuriositet, selv om Danmark i mere end ti år har været EU-godkendt som vinproducerende land. Men det kan faktisk lade sig gøre at lave vin her i landet, der også får anerkendelse i store vinlande som Frankrig og Tyskland.
Sven Moesgaard fra Skærsøgaard i Dons ved Kolding er en af de 60 erhvervsvinavlere i Danmark, og han har adskillige gange høstet hædersmedaljer for sin vin i udlandet.
”Klimazonerne flytter mod nord, og vi kan ved at vælge de rigtige sorter og lokaliteter lave pragtfuld vin i Danmark”, siger Sven Moesgaard.
LandTV har besøgt både Sven Moesgaards vingård, der er en af landets største, og et par af de cirka 1400 hobbyvinavlere, der også har kastet sig over muligheden for at lave sin egen vin.
Det kræver meget arbejde, tålmodighed og en accept af det danske vejrs omskiftelighed. Og hvis dansk vinavl skal blive en forretning, er det nødvendigt at satse på vingårds-turisme.
”Vinproduktion er noget, som rigtigt mange mennesker er interesseret i, og jeg tror derfor på, at det kan trække mange gæster ud i vingårdene”, siger hobbyvinavler Henrik Frandsen, der også er viceformand i brancheorganisationen Landbrug & Fødevarer, hvor erhvervsvinavlerne er medlem.
I programmet medvirker desuden hobbyvinavler Jens Wichmann fra Agerskov, der er en af pionererne inden for dansk vinavl.

The grass blaze that crews were battling on the property of EVRAZ Rocky Mountain Steel in Pueblo was extinguished by 4 p.m., according to Gazette news partner KKTV. Flames seem to be moving through grass and brush on the property, said Pueblo Fire spokesman Erik Duran. The Pueblo Fire department is assisting the steel mill's fire department, he said. The size of the fire and the cause were not immediately known, Duran said ... ....
