Waterloo (Russian: Ватерлоо) is a 1970 Soviet-Italian film directed by Sergei Bondarchuk and produced by Dino De Laurentiis. It depicts the story of the preliminary events and the Battle of Waterloo, and is famous for its lavish battle scenes.
It stars Rod Steiger as Napoleon Bonaparte and Christopher Plummer as the Duke of Wellington with a cameo by Orson Welles as Louis XVIII of France. Other stars include Jack Hawkins as General Thomas Picton, Virginia McKenna as the Duchess of Richmond and Dan O'Herlihy as Marshal Ney.
The film includes some 15,000 Soviet foot soldiers and 2,000 cavalrymen as extras—it was said that, during its making, director Sergei Bondarchuk was in command of the seventh largest army in the world. Fifty circus stunt riders were used to perform the dangerous horse falls. These numbers brought an epic quality to the battle scenes.

Es war keine Schlacht wie jede andere, die am 18. Juni 1815 nahe des belgischen Dorfes Waterloo stattfand. Je 70.000 Mann standen sich gegenüber, als Sir Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington und Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher gemeinsam gegen Napoleon I. zogen, um Europa von dessen 18-jähriger Herrschaft zu befreien. Eine gigantische Schlacht tobte an jenem Tag, an deren Ende nicht nur unzählige Gefallene die Felder säumten, sondern auch die entscheidende Niederlage des ruhmreichen Feldherrn Napoleon I. Stand.
Der russische Regisseur und Schauspieler Sergeij Bondartschuk hat sich 1969 den historischen Stoff vorgenommen, um der monumentalen Schlacht ein filmisches Denkmal zu setzen. Mit großem finanziellen und technischen Aufwand sowie einer immensen Schar an Komparsen gelang es Bondartschuk, ein realistisches Kriegsszenario auf die Leinwand zu bannen. Vor allem aber durch die schauspielerische Leistung des Starensembles mit Rod Steiger als Napoleon, Orson Welles als Louis XVIII. und Christopher Plummer als Sir Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington ist Waterloo ein cineastisches Meisterwerk geworden.
Bondartschuk unterstrich mit diesem Film seinen Ruf als Spezialisten für Monumentalverfilmungen, den er sich mit der vierteiligen Verfilmung von Tolstois Krieg und Frieden zwei Jahre zuvor erworben hatte. Die langjährige Zusammenarbeit mit Militärberatern bei diesem Projekt schlägt sich auch in der effektvollen Inszenierung der Massenszenen und den präzisen und faszinierenden Schlachtengemälden in Waterloo nieder, die bis heute nichts an Kraft und Eindringlichkeit eingebüßt haben.

Napoleon promptly responded by ordering a counter-attack by the cuirassier brigades of Farine and Travers and Jaquinot's two lancer regiments in the I Corps light cavalry division. The result was very heavy losses for the British cavalry."

ABBA
ABBA (stylised ᗅᗺᗷᗅ) were a Swedish pop group who formed in Stockholm in 1972. With members Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, ABBA became one of the most commercially successful acts in the history of popular music, topping the charts worldwide from 1975 to 1982. They won the Eurovision Song Contest 1974 at the Dome in Brighton, UK, giving Sweden its first triumph in the contest, and were the most successful group ever to take part in the competition.

Waterloo (Russian: Ватерлоо) is a 1970 Soviet-Italian film directed by Sergei Bondarchuk and produced by Dino De Laurentiis. It depicts the story of the preliminary events and the Battle of Waterloo, and is famous for its lavish battle scenes.
It stars Rod Steiger as Napoleon Bonaparte and Christopher Plummer as the Duke of Wellington with a cameo by Orson Welles as Louis XVIII of France. Other stars include Jack Hawkins as General Thomas Picton, Virginia McKenna as the Duchess of Richmond and Dan O'Herlihy as Marshal Ney.
The film includes some 15,000 Soviet foot soldiers and 2,000 cavalrymen as extras—it was said that, during its making, director Sergei Bondarchuk was in command of the seventh largest army in the world. Fifty circus stunt riders were used to perform the dangerous horse falls. These numbers brought an epic quality to the battle scenes.

Eine gigantische Schlacht tobte an jenem Tag, an deren Ende nicht nur unzählige Gefallene die Felder säumten, sondern auch die entscheidende Niederlage des ruhmreichen Feldherrn Napoleon I. Stand.
Der russische Regisseur und Schauspieler Sergeij Bondartschuk hat sich 1969 den historischen Stoff vorgenommen, um der monumentalen Schlacht ein filmisches Denkmal zu setzen. Mit großem finanziellen und technischen Aufwand sowie einer immensen Schar an Komparsen gelang es Bondartschuk, ein realistisches Kriegsszenario auf die Leinwand zu bannen. Vor allem aber durch die schauspielerische Leistung des Starensembles mit Rod Steiger als Napoleon, Orson Welles als Louis XVIII. und Christopher Plummer als Sir Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington ist Waterloo ein cineastisches Meisterwerk geworden.
Bondartschuk unterstrich mit diesem Film seinen Ruf als Spezialisten für Monumentalverfilmungen, den er sich mit der vierteiligen Verfilmung von Tolstois Krieg und Frieden zwei Jahre zuvor erworben hatte. Napoleon promptly responded by ordering a counter-attack by the cuirassier brigades of Farine and Travers and Jaquinot's two lancer regiments in the I Corps light cavalry division. The result was very heavy losses for the British cavalry."
