The points of the compass are points on a compass, specifically on the compass rose, marking divisions of the four cardinal directions: North, South, East, West. The number of points may be only the 4 cardinal points, or the 8 principal points adding the intercardinal (or ordinal) directions northeast (NE), southeast (SE), southwest (SW), and northwest (NW). In meteorological usage further intermediate points are added to give the sixteen points of a wind compass. Finally, at the most complete in European tradition, are found the full thirty-two points of the mariner's compass. In ancient China 24 points of the compass were used.
In the mariner's exercise of boxing the compass, all thirty-two points of the compass are named in clockwise order. The names of intermediate points are formed by the initials of the cardinal directions and their intermediate ordinal directions, and are very handy to refer to a heading (or course or azimuth) in a general or colloquial fashion, without having to resort to computing or recalling degrees. For most applications, the minor points have been superseded by degrees measured clockwise from North.
London i/ˈlʌndən/ is the capital and most populous city of England and the United Kingdom. Standing on the River Thames, London has been a major settlement for two millennia. It was founded by the Romans, who named it Londinium. London's ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its 1.12-square-mile (2.9 km2) medieval boundaries and in 2011 had a resident population of 7,375, making it the smallest city in England. Since at least the 19th century, the term London has also referred to the metropolis developed around this core. The bulk of this conurbation forms Greater London, a region of England governed by the Mayor of London and the London Assembly. The conurbation also covers two English counties: the small district of the City of London and the county of Greater London. The latter constitutes the vast majority of London, though historically it was split between Middlesex (a now abolished county), Essex, Surrey, Kent and Hertfordshire.
South West London may refer to several things related to London, England:
West London generally refers to the western portions of London, and may refer specifically to:
South West Trains (SWT) is a British train operating company owned by Stagecoach Group operating the South Western franchise.
It operates the majority of commuter services from its Central London terminus at London Waterloo to South West London as well as most outer suburban/regional services in Surrey, Hampshire and Dorset. It also provides regional services in Devon, Somerset, Berkshire, and Wiltshire and on the Isle of Wight through its Island Line Trains subsidiary.
The area of operation, essentially the former South Western division of Network SouthEast, is also roughly that of the pre-1923 London and South Western Railway (excluding everything west of Exeter). The Stagecoach Group took over the franchise on the privatisation of British Rail in 1996 and retained it in 2004 and again in 2007 making it, along with Chiltern Railways and Great Western Railway, the longest-running franchise. The bulk of its train services pass through the busiest section of the UK's domestic rail network at Clapham Junction.

hi i spend a lot of time making these small films of when the days were a lot different. most of the photos are from old books or old post cards. i love doing this to show you how life was way back then. some people can not buy books or find things to do with local history so this is why i have done this for all of you. i do not do this to make money in any way, it is just for free so i do hope you all like the small films i do as it takes a long time to do. i did use to live in SW London but now moved to bucks where i find this is much better for me and my family. all the best --- Jason Blackman.
Today we continue the South West Trains series with a film showing train action on a Saturday night at Richmond in London. Richmond is a very beautiful suburban town in southwest London right by the river Thames. It has two train stations: Richmond station and North Sheen station, from which Richmond station is the major one, the subject of this film. Although the town has only about 20,000 inhabitants, the station is served by frequent South West Trains services on the Waterloo to Reading line, and it is also the terminus for the London Underground District line and the London Overground Richmond branch. The film first focuses on the South West Trains services, which run at platforms 1 and 2. We see a mix of class 450, 455 and 458 trains. Towards the end the film then shows some London ...

Devised as if for an Arts magazine programme (such as The Culture Show), this short presenter-led piece is intended to be an architectural reappraisal of the Alton Estate (primarily Alton West) in South West London. Completed in 1959, the estate boasts an award-winning Modernist design heavily inspired by the work of Le Corbusier as well as a respect for the parkland it was built upon. It was with this in mind that the architects and designers were able to blend towering concrete structures with the gentle nature of the original Georgian landscape.
