Coordinates: 51°12′29″N 2°22′43″W / 51.2080°N 2.3786°W / 51.2080; -2.3786
Nunney is a village and civil parish near Frome in the Mendip local government district within the English county of Somerset. The parish includes the hamlet of Holwell.
The name of the village comes from Old English and means Nunna's island.
Today, the tourist attractions are the ruins of Nunney Castle, a historic church, and ducks wandering the streets near the river. The village hall is host to a Jazz Cafe, which offers jazz, poetry and art.
On 30 September 2007, Nunney was the subject of a BBC Radio 4 report, asking whether "the prettiest village in England" is a place where we can learn "how to mend our broken society".
Evidence of Roman settlement has been provided by the discovery of a hoard of Roman coins in 1869 at Westdown Farm and a villa with a mosaic floor.
Nunney is mentioned as a manor belonging to William de Moyon in the Domesday Book in 1086, but the book does not mention a castle.

The sound barrier, in aerodynamics, is the point at which an aircraft moves from transonic to supersonic speed. The term, which occasionally has other meanings, came into use during World War II, when a number of aircraft started to encounter the effects of compressibility, a collection of several unrelated aerodynamic effects that "struck" their planes like an impediment to further acceleration. By the 1950s, new aircraft designs routinely "broke" the sound barrier.
Some common whips such as the bullwhip or sparewhip are able to move faster than sound: the tip of the whip breaks the sound barrier and causes a sharp crack—literally a sonic boom.Firearms since the 19th century have generally had a supersonic muzzle velocity.
The sound barrier may have been first breached in nature some 150 million years ago. Some paleobiologists report that, based on computer models of their biomechanical capabilities, certain long-tailed dinosaurs such as Apatosaurus and Diplodocus may have possessed the ability to flick their tails at supersonic velocities, possibly used to generate an intimidating booming sound. This finding is theoretical and disputed by others in the field. Meteorites entering the Earth's atmosphere usually, if not always, descend faster than sound.

Plot
A morality tale of xenophobia, religious prejudice, mob violence, poverty, and their effect on two children in Liverpool during the Depression. When a shipyard closes, Liam and Teresa's dad loses his job. Liam, who's about 8, making his first Holy Communion, gets a regular dose of fire and brimstone at church. Teresa, about 13, has a job as a maid to the Jewish family that owns the closed shipyard. The lady of that house is having an affair, and Teresa becomes an accomplice. Liam stutters terribly, especially when troubled. Dad comes under the sway of the Fascists, who blame cheap Irish labor and Jewish owners. A Molotov cocktail brings things to a head.

One of the best videos in turns of steam against the gradient and noise level ever. The noise of a Castle slogging up a gradient will always be loud. I decided to head to Torre due to a steep gradient out of Torquay which as steep as 1 in 55 up to Torre Station and was worth going to in the end. She can be heard leaving Torquay behind as she powers up the bank and then the heavy gradient took advantage of the Castle. Happily, she got up to Torre station but by then was at walking pace and had another climb to tackle after passing through up to Newton Abbot. Bristol -- Kingswear -- Bristol These clips from two of this seasons Torbay Express tours featuring 5029 Nunney Castle illustrate the dilemma we face when we are at long last treated to a "real" summer! The first two clips are in the midst of the July heatwave; wonderful weather but frustratingly accompanied by either total steam ban's or token steam on the front of (or even worse: behind!) diesel traction. Happily, she got up to Torre station but by then was at walking pace and had another climb to tackle after passing through up to Newton Abbot. She was running about 5 mins late at the point she reached the station.

Flying south with the 'Torbay Express' from Bristol Temple Meads to Kingswear is preserved Great Western Railway Castle Class number 5029 'Nunney Castle', first seen passing the foot crossing at Cockwood between Starcross and Dawlish Warren.
Later that evening, we see her powering along the banks of the River Teign with the return working, also passing the new order of Great Western traction, an FGW Class 43 HST set.

Yesterday at Nunney Horse Trials there was a minute silence that was out of respect to the rider that devastatingly lost their life there on Saturday. A sobering day for everyone in the eventing world and all our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of Jordan McDonald.
We are all extremely lucky to do what we love when we go out competing at BE events and myself included we sometimes are too focused on what the score board says and what it looks like on our record or whether we're gonna make the teams etc - but as this weekend has reminded us it is an extremely dangerous sport and if you and your team mate come home in one piece that's all that matters at the end of the day.
So me and alby didn't have the best day, a nice dressage test and a clear round sj put us into the lead going into xc, we had an amazing round up until a skinny brush that was right on the brow of a hill and we both just completely miss read the stride which resulted in a stop - it wasn't him being naughty at all and we represented and he jumped it lovely (which last year he wouldnt of done!) I then steadied up and completed the round! So a tiny error on course cost us but I'm not a professional rider so I am going to make mistakes as I'm still very inexperience all I can do is learn from them and not make them again! And this weekends events do really put it in perspective.

With 5029 Nunney Castle now withdrawn from the mainline following complications of a deteriorated firebox, boiler stays and it's boiler ticket at expiry point, it is now very unlikely that she will return to the mainline again in future due to other complicated circumstances. I decided to pitch together and publish some unseen archive shots of 5029 on the mainline during the summers of 2013/14
Here's the runs and chapter time slots that follows:
2013: Weymouth Seaside Express 0:00
2014: Torbay Express 3.32 and the Cathedrals Express 9:30
The last shot at the end where the Castle passes Woodrow Barton crossing over the mirror reflection on the river was unexpectedly to be my last ever shot of her running on the mainline, a very poignant and fitting shot to film of this fine Great Western mainline performer.
So long old friend!

These clips from two of this seasons Torbay Express tours featuring 5029 Nunney Castle illustrate the dilemma we face when we are at long last treated to a "real" summer!
The first two clips are in the midst of the July heatwave; wonderful weather but frustratingly accompanied by either total steam ban's or token steam on the front of (or even worse: behind!) diesel traction. It took a lot of rain to break that ban and we got it a few weeks later with the type of weather we had to endure through most of last "summer"!
The beach is full at Teignmouth as Nunney Castle rounds the famous sea wall, mercifully on the front of a sympathetically coloured 47812. For the return working we go to journeys-end at Kingswear on the P&DSR; where NR fire restrictions do not apply and therefore 5029 is back in charge of the train with just a little help from the 47. A couple chance a last minute (second?) stroll over the crossing, much to the annoyance of the driver! Aller Vale between Newton Abbot and Kingskerswell is the site of major upheaval in the landscape, courtesy of the South Devon Link Road. Resembling the aftermath of a WW1 battlefield with so much vegetation and trees removed gives however a unique opportunity to film hitherto hidden views. 5029 is seen powering the train through heavy drizzle and high winds over the exposed terrain. Even now at the time of posting, this view has completely changed as work progresses, never to be seen like this again. Finally to Paignton Station where at least there was some shelter from the now persistent rain although Nunney delivers her own shower into the lens. The crew treat us to a demonstration of sure-footed departure and climbing in the slippery conditions that pacific's just cannot match on this stretch.

Day 6 of my holiday on the NYMR
On today's program
After yesterday's problems on my side a brand new video camera was bought to replace its predecessor and worked allot better and its water proof so lets hope its goes more smoothly this time.
We start at Grosmont sheds were we see Jeremy Hosking's 5029 Nunney Castle as she was being prepared for work.
This was to be her last day in service on the NYMR before she left by road to The Mid Hants Railway in readiness for there Autumn Steam Gala the next week.
She moves off to collect her support coach before moving off to the station to take some empty coaching stock to Pickering that would form the 11am train from there.
We next see repaired 45428 Eric Treacy as he comes over to be checked up ready to do the 1st Whitby train of the day
From here we join 45428 for the run into Whitby which would form the 10am service to Pickering and we travel all the way to the end of the line which for the hole journey i had a hole compartment to myself.
As the day progress the weather improved and it was suitable for better filming.
When I got back to Grosmont 5029 was ready to do the 13.30pm service to Pickering and I went straight for it disappointing 1 of the passengers got my filming speck shame really but I had some great shots and filming of the castle during the war weekend.
We have 1 final round trip behind her before we say goodbye to 5029 before we rejoin 45428 for the final round trip to Whitby from Grosmont.
This time the weather was so much better and filming the length from Whitby to Grosmont was at last achieved on the last run I was only 1 out of 4 passengers that traveled on the the 7 coach train.
We soon arrived back were we finish seeing 45428 head off to the sheds in darkness.
To sum up
It was allot better day when the weather got better to my final round trip behind 5029 Nunney Castle before she left the railway after a 3 week stay since late september.
Lastly getting 2 round trips to Whitby and I was impressed on platform 2 at Whtiby great work from the guys that made it possible.

The length of the line will run for some 10 miles upon completion of the the Corwen extension and is currently the longest preserved standard railway in Wales and operates for the railway enthusiasts and visitors alike daily during the summer as well as weekends throughout the Winter period using a variety of both steam and diesel locomotives
Scenically well worth a visit on any travel itinerary especially Llangollen close to the River Dee

Sorrento Italy a Beautiful Seaside Town
The seaside town of Sorrento was our base for touring around this spectacular part of the Italian Coast. From Sorrento we drove along the Amalfi Coast, through Positano, Ravello and Amalfi and we cruised along the coastline and out to Capri in a private boat. Sorrento is a great spot for doing day trips like these to explore this part of the Italian Coast and the Mediterranean Sea.
Sorrento is a coastal town on the Mediterranean coast of Italy. It is just south of Naples and just around the corner from the Amalfi Coast.
Capri is an island just off the Amalfi Coast on the Mediterranean side of Italy.
I'm into photography, videography, cinematography,
that's where the bokeh or boke comes in,
and travel, that's were the flow or as I use it flo comes in.
