Washburn University (WU) is a co-educational, public institution of higher learning in Topeka, Kansas, United States. It offers undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as professional programs in law and business. Washburn has 550 faculty members, who teach more than 6,100 undergraduate students and nearly 800 graduate students. The university's assets include a $152 million endowment.
Washburn University was established in February 1865 as Lincoln College by a charter issued by the State of Kansas and the General Association of Congregational Ministers and Churches of Kansas on land donated by abolitionist John Ritchie. The school was renamed Washburn College in 1868 after Ichabod Washburn pledged $25,000 to the school. Washburn was a church deacon, abolitionist and industrialist who resided in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Washburn University’s mascot, The Ichabods, honors the school’s early benefactor, Ichabod Washburn. The original design of the studious-looking, tailcoat-clad figure was created in 1938 by Bradbury Thompson (B.A. ‘34), who became an internationally acclaimed graphic artist.
For more than 55 years, Morgan Hall has been a hub of activity on the Washburn campus - for students, parents, faculty, administration and visitors. After a careful review of the current facility and the needs of our students both today and in the future, we know now is the time to move forward and transform Morgan into a facility that matches our reputation for providing an exceptional college experience.
Thank you to all of the donors who continue to support important spaces for students on Washburn's campus!

The process of globalization in Turkey is, for better and for worse, associated mostly with Western ideas, and quite often, American versions of those ideas. Not all markers of modernity bear a negative stigma, as items like cell phones and cars have been embraced by large segments of the Turkish population. I hope to point out some of the paradoxes of Turkish culture by considering some understandings of and responses to the process globalization. Secondly, I hope that this discussion will emphasize the need for greater and more nuanced attention to Turkish groups and individuals who are experiencing processes of cultural redefinition on local and global scales. With so much history within the ground the city lies upon, it is no wonder that there are so many historical ruins, museums and cultural relics to be found here. From the 2005 CALI Conference for Law School Computing Audience: All Technical Level: Are you sick and tired of wasting hours capturing to the computer? Do time restrictions on miniDV have you yearning for the days of 6-hour LP VHS tape? This session will focus on the technologies available today and tomorrow that remove tape from the picture and provide faster and easier ways to disseminate your information to the masses. As an example, I'll also go in-depth as to how Cornell Law School took their Trial Advocacy class completely online. As there are several methods to this madness, I would also like to have an open forum to discuss other solutions and concerns regarding the future of video recordings.
