Korea, the Country of Descendants of Independence Activist from Cuba
Azaria Lim was the first student from Cuba to study in Korea. She is a fourth-generation Korean-Cuban.
Korea and Cuba do not have diplomatic ties yet, but Azaria was able to come to Korea with the help of her late great-grandfather, Lim Cheon-taek, who made large contributions to helping Korea achieve national independence. During Japanese colonization of Korea, Lim Cheon-taek lived in hardship with his single mother on a henequen farm in Mexico. He did everything he could to help Koreans in Cuba protect their national identity.
He established a Korean school and taught the Korean language and culture to second-generation Korean-Cubans. Lim Cheon-taek also raised funds for the Korean interim government based in Shanghai, China. His final wish was to visit his homeland before death, but he only returned to Korea seven years after he passed away.
He was buried at the National Cemetery in recognition of his contributions to Korea's independence, and now his granddaughter is pursuing her dreams by studying in Korea.

쿠바 최초 한국의 유학생으로 대학에 다니고 있는 아자리아 임. 그녀는 쿠바 한인 4세다. 쿠바와 국교를 맺지 않은 그녀가 한국에 올 수 있었던 것은 증조부인 고 임천택 선생 덕분이었다.
그녀의 증조할아버지인 고 임천택 선생은 한국 독립운동사에 큰 족적을 남겼다. 일제시대 때, 홀어머니의 품에 안겨 멕시코 에네켄 농장에서 힘겨운 생활을 하다가 쿠바에 정착한 그는 한국인의 정체성을 잃지 않기 위해 많은 노력을 했다. 한국 학교를 세우고, 한인 2세에게 한국말과 한국문화를 교육하는 것은 물론 상해 임시정부에 독립자금을 지원하기 위해 모금운동도 열심히 했다.
그의 소원은 죽기 전에 조국 땅을 밟는 것. 하지만 그의 소원은 그가 세상을 떠난 지 7년 만에 이루어졌다. 한국 독립운동을 위해 노력한 공로를 인정받아 국립대전현충원에 묻힐 수 있었던 고 임천택 선생. 이제는 그의 증손녀가 할아버지의 땅에서 교육을 받고 꿈을 키우고 있다.
독립운동가의 후손, 아자리아 임. 그녀가 느끼는 증조할아버지의 고향은 어떤 모습일까?
낯선 나라에서 유학생활을 하며 꿈을 키워가고 있는 스무 살 아자리아와 함께 한국 독립 운동사의 흔적을 좇아보고, 선조들이 지켜낸 현재의 한국을 그녀의 시선으로 함께 해본다.
1) Australia : DANGEROUS DINGOES (DUR: 9'56)
Lindy Chamberlain speaks exclusively to Animal X about why she believes a dingo took her baby. Australia's most infamous and mysterious animal case - the disappearance of Azaria Chamberlain from her tent at Ayers Rock in August 1980. Lindy Chamberlain claimed that Azaria was taken by a dingo. An investigation involving the police, forensic experts and Aboriginal trackers followed but was inconclusive. This led to a controversial court case which found Lindy guilty of murdering her daughter Azaria. Lindy was sent to jail, however a subsequent hearing later exonerated her.
2) Turkey : FLESH EATING FISH (DUR: 7'10)
A small village high in the mountains of Eastern Turkey is a place where miracles happen everyday. Psoriasis sufferers travel in their thousands to the hot springs of Cermik to have their debilitating disease cured by the mysterious Doctor Fish. There are said to be three types of Doctor Fish which work as a team: the striker peels away the patient's flaky skin; the sucker draws the patient's blood; and the healer uses saliva to dress the wound. And the results are as smooth as a baby's bottom!
32) USA : BIG FOOT (DUR: 9'35)
During the last century large primates of up to eight feet tall have been spotted across the United States. Although 'Big Foot', as the beast has become known, has been sighted in every state, sightings are concentrated in the remote mountainous parts of the country. In October 1958 a group of loggers came across several human-like footprints in a remote part of the Northern Californian woods. The footprints ranged in length from 12 to 17 inches long and about 7 inches wide. Big Foot was spotted by several other road construction workers as they hacked a ribbon of civilisation further into the dense bush. Since then the animal that the Indians call Sasquatch has fascinated adventurers. For three weeks last August a team of experts went into the remote Siskiyou Mountains in Northern California looking for some answers. Secretary of the International Society of Cryptozoology, Richard Greenwell, his son Darwin, Primatologist Jeffrey Meldrum and their mountain guide Mark Slack found no proof of the existence of Big Foot. But their experiences added up to a strong case in favour of the creature's presence. The group found several sets of human-like tracks, measuring up to 16 inches in length. They heard howls and their camp was visited by animals that they couldn't explain away as bears. Animal X obtained exclusive material from the team's expedition into the wilderness. Richard Greenwell suggests Big Foot may be related to the Gigantopithecus that roamed China 300,000 years ago. He suggests that it may have crossed the Bering land bridge from Asia and into North America and remained in the forests, leading a largely reclusive life.

Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this "calling" in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, "glide" over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and "see" the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

Azaria (Hebrew: עֲזַרְיָה), or Azarya is a moshav in central Israel. Located in the Shephelah around five kilometres south-east of Ramle, it falls under the jurisdiction of Gezer Regional Council. In 2006 it had a population of 815.[citation needed]
The moshav was established on the land of the depopulated Palestinian village named Al-Barriyya on 30 October 1949 by 25 families from Jerusalem as part of the "From the city to the village" plan. Its name is symbolic, though there a theory that it was named after Azariah of Judah. The symbolic meaning is an acronym from the Hebrew religious sentence: "Immigrants(ole) (of) Zakho(village in Kurdistan) saw(ra'u)(the) salvation(jeshuat) (of the) Lord(HaShem)."

This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, "glide" over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and "see" the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life. -

the AU review stopped by to visit The Art while they were recording their next release and they performed this never before played tongue and cheek ditty for us. Somewhere between seeing Azaria play a pink Dollyrocker kids guitar at an awesome house party show only to ride off on a black Harley, and seeing the town full of The Art posters defaced to read 'the fart' I developed a soft spot for these guys. They're happily full of contradictions. In a endless parade of bands that take themselves too seriously, these guys don't, which is good because no one here takes them seriously either (haw haw haw). It's astonishing the kind of supports and tours they get without much love from the radio gatekeepers. Fuck the powers, they get shows because people like them. Some people anyway -like most things worth paying attention to they polarise crowds. That DIY punk band that takes makes zines, guess what they take themselves seriously, the folk guys that give out vegan cupcakes clearly take themselves seriously, and don't get me started on how boringly serious pretty much everything that was recently called 'indie' was. Thanks for reminding me not to give a fuck, was fun to drop by the studio. The songs a jab at all this, "Elvis has left the building, but I'm still here baby". Korea, the Country of Descendants of Independence Activist from Cuba
Azaria Lim was the first student from Cuba to study in Korea. She is a fourth-generation Korean-Cuban.
Korea and Cuba do not have diplomatic ties yet, but Azaria was able to come to Korea with the help of her late great-grandfather, Lim Cheon-taek, who made large contributions to helping Korea achieve national independence. During Japanese colonization of Korea, Lim Cheon-taek lived in hardship with his single mother on a henequen farm in Mexico. He did everything he could to help Koreans in Cuba protect their national identity.
He established a Korean school and taught the Korean language and culture to second-generation Korean-Cubans. Lim Cheon-taek also raised funds for the Korean interim government based in Shanghai, China. His final wish was to visit his homeland before death, but he only returned to Korea seven years after he passed away.
He was buried at the National Cemetery in recognition of his contributions to Korea's independence, and now his granddaughter is pursuing her dreams by studying in Korea.

The footprints ranged in length from 12 to 17 inches long and about 7 inches wide. Big Foot was spotted by several other road construction workers as they hacked a ribbon of civilisation further into the dense bush. Since then the animal that the Indians call Sasquatch has fascinated adventurers. For three weeks last August a team of experts went into the remote Siskiyou Mountains in Northern California looking for some answers. Secretary of the International Society of Cryptozoology, Richard Greenwell, his son Darwin, Primatologist Jeffrey Meldrum and their mountain guide Mark Slack found no proof of the existence of Big Foot. But their experiences added up to a strong case in favour of the creature's presence. The group found several sets of human-like tracks, measuring up to 16 inches in length. They heard howls and their camp was visited by animals that they couldn't explain away as bears. Animal X obtained exclusive material from the team's expedition into the wilderness. Richard Greenwell suggests Big Foot may be related to the Gigantopithecus that roamed China 300,000 years ago. He suggests that it may have crossed the Bering land bridge from Asia and into North America and remained in the forests, leading a largely reclusive life.

This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, "glide" over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and "see" the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

Somewhere between seeing Azaria play a pink Dollyrocker kids guitar at an awesome house party show only to ride off on a black Harley, and seeing the town full of The Art posters defaced to read 'the fart' I developed a soft spot for these guys. They're happily full of contradictions. In a endless parade of bands that take themselves too seriously, these guys don't, which is good because no one here takes them seriously either (haw haw haw). It's astonishing the kind of supports and tours they get without much love from the radio gatekeepers. Fuck the powers, they get shows because people like them. Some people anyway -like most things worth paying attention to they polarise crowds.
That DIY punk band that takes makes zines, guess what they take themselves seriously, the folk guys that give out vegan cupcakes clearly take themselves seriously, and don't get me started on how boringly serious pretty much everything that was recently called 'indie' was.
Thanks for reminding me not to give a fuck, was fun to drop by the studio. The songs a jab at all this, "Elvis has left the building, but I'm still here baby". Haters can hate all they like, it'll probably just encourage these guys.

The programme for the Auckland Festival 2009 was announced last night and the two and a half week celebration of theatre, dance and music kicks off on March 5.
The heart of the festival once again will be Red Square, located this time in and around the Aotea Centre instead of Britomart, and will be home to the Festival Club, the Festival Bar, and the Famous Spiegeltent (to be erected in Aotea Square).
And the naughty highlight of the last festival is returning for the event. La Clique - a mash-up of cabaret, burlesque and the circus - is on again at the Famous Spiegeltent.
The 2007 season of the R18 show sold out straightaway. Not surprising considering it had everything from a guy in wet jeans performing superhuman feats with a bathtub, to sword-swallowing beauty Miss Behave, and naked rope dangler Azaria Universe.

~~ Review Script ~~
In the first movie, our protagonist, Larry Daley, played by Ben Stiller becomes the night watchmen at New York's Natural History museum, where the exhibits literally "come alive" at night. Fast-forward a couple years for the plot of this sequel, and we find that Larry's old museum pals are being shipped away to live in storage - underneath the National Mall, in the Smithsonian Museum archives. Larry has to travel to Washington DC and do battle with the quick-talking and goofy Pharoah, Kahmunrah, played brilliantly by Hank Azaria, for the mystical Golden Tablet that brings all of the exhibits to life. I hadn't seen the original until yesterday - so watching both movies back-to-back was a real treat. Ben Stiller is refreshing in the only role he is able to play well - the slapstick hero with a heart of gold. Although dreadfully underused, each and every member of the supporting cast does their share of bringing in the laughs. Having nearly every actor from the original movie reprising their role in this bigger and more adventurous sequel is always a great recipe for a successful movie. The character's developments from the previous film felt organic, and the new problems presented didn't seem like the usual "Hollywood-Money-Grubbing-For-A-Sequel", like we've seen in many other franchises. I felt that bringing the action to the Smithsonian was a great concept, allowing for many fun and exciting character additions. And as this is a family movie - I think this strategy worked wonderfully - the action is nearly non-stop throughout the film, with a playful lighthearted tone keeping everything kid-friendly for the 105-minute run time. Unlike the first film, Stiller was smartly cast opposite Amy Adams as the female/romantic lead - dutifully playing Amelia Earhart - this romantic sub-plot gives the movie a nice foundation that I feel the first movie lacked. I wasn't expecting to enjoy this movie too much, but I genuinely laughed and smiled more than a few times while watching this movie - which can best be described as the ultimate kid's fantasy. I especially loved how the film brought to life several famous American paintings - an interesting and fun scene you can't help by smile at. Obviously, this movie's large ensemble cast it where it really shines - but I couldn't help but feel this is also where the movie failed. Many of the characters - especially the trio of villains Kahmanrah enlists to help him retrieve the tablet - seemed woefully underdeveloped and poorly utilized. There were several scenes where characters were haphazardly introduced just to deliver a single joke, and then were forgotten about for most of the film. In contrast to the original film, where I felt the core cast meshed very well with each other. Sadly, Robin Williams - who was easily the most memorable character from the first film is mostly absent from this film - making only minor appearances to close out the film.So, it was a very fun and original family comedy that complimented the first film nicely.

In the first movie, our protagonist, Larry Daley, played by Ben Stiller becomes the night watchmen at New York's Natural History museum, where the exhibits literally "come alive" at night. Fast-forward a couple years for the plot of this sequel, and we find that Larry's old museum pals are being shipped away to live in storage - underneath the National Mall, in the Smithsonian Museum archives. Larry has to travel to Washington DC and do battle with the quick-talking and goofy Pharoah, Kahmunrah, played brilliantly by Hank Azaria, for the mystical Golden Tablet that brings all of the exhibits to life. I hadn't seen the original until yesterday - so watching both movies back-to-back was a real treat.
