VIDEO SUMMARY
In this video I highlight the absurdity of abstinence only education in the USA. I argue that it is out of touch with the reality that teenagers and young adults have sex and therefore should have medically accurate information. I review some of the "education" given in abstinence programs and argue that these programs propogate sexism, lies, and seek to instill fear instead of inform. In the last part of the video, I talk about abstinence itself as a positive choice if you are not ready for sex. I talk about sex positive ways to approach abstinence, sexual exploration, and how to know when you're ready for sex.

Capitalism simultaneously denies Americans sensuality and saturates them with sex, so that their obsession with sex in a non-sensual culture leads Americans to live lousy sex lives. It's the perfect cocktail for control by the establishment: the 5 senses never being satisfied so that Americans try to satisfy it by pornography & sleeping around, which leads them to CONSUMING (consumption for the purpose of fulfilling one's unsatisfied sex life, & engaging in terrible sex to fill the spiritual emptiness that comes with materialism, & the cycle continues). The way to break this cycle is practicing sexual abstinence, which gives you the strength to stand up for yourself & to stand up for others. An uncontrolled sex life makes you incredibly weak and denies you your humanity.

Abstinence is a voluntary restraint from indulging in bodily activities that are widely experienced as giving pleasure. Most frequently, the term refers to sexual abstinence, or abstention from alcohol or food. The practice can arise from religious prohibitions or practical considerations. Abstinence may also refer to drugs. For example you can abstain from smoking. Abstinence has diverse forms. Commonly it refers to a temporary or partial abstinence from food, as in fasting. In the twelve-step program of Overeaters Anonymous abstinence is the term for refraining from compulsive eating, akin in meaning to sobriety for alcoholics. Because the regimen is intended to be a conscious act, freely chosen to enhance life, abstinence is sometimes distinguished from the psychological mechanism of repression. The latter is an unconscious state, having unhealthy consequences. Freud termed the channeling of sexual energies into other more culturally or socially acceptable activities, "sublimation".
Abstinence may arise from an ascetic element, present in most faiths, or from a subjective need for spiritual discipline. In its religious context, abstinence is meant to elevate the believer beyond the normal life of desire, to a chosen ideal, by following a path of renunciation.

It's the perfect cocktail for control by the establishment: the 5 senses never being satisfied so that Americans try to satisfy it by pornography & sleeping around, which leads them to CONSUMING (consumption for the purpose of fulfilling one's unsatisfied sex life, & engaging in terrible sex to fill the spiritual emptiness that comes with materialism, & the cycle continues). The way to break this cycle is practicing sexual abstinence, which gives you the strength to stand up for yourself & to stand up for others. An uncontrolled sex life makes you incredibly weak and denies you your humanity.

I argue that it is out of touch with the reality that teenagers and young adults have sex and therefore should have medically accurate information. I review some of the "education" given in abstinence programs and argue that these programs propogate sexism, lies, and seek to instill fear instead of inform. In the last part of the video, I talk about abstinence itself as a positive choice if you are not ready for sex. I talk about sex positive ways to approach abstinence, sexual exploration, and how to know when you're ready for sex.

I sat with my legs crossed, cramped in a theater with 200 sweaty, sobbing teens as our pastor described the unwavering bonds of sex and why it should only be experienced within the confines of marriage."*
Jessica Ciencin Henriquez says taking a purity vow to wait until after marriage to lose her virginity was a huge mistake that only led to a quick divorce instead of the strong marriage she thought it would ensure. Was it her own own fault? Her ex-husband's? Or maybe the idea of waiting until after marriage to have sex? Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian argue their cases with the TYT Supreme Court.
