Nash or NASH may refer to:
Stephanie or Stefanie is a female name that comes from the Greek name Στέφανος (Stefanos) meaning "crown". The male form is Stephen. Forms of Stephanie in other languages include the German "Stefanie", the Italian, Czech, Polish, and Russian "Stefania", the Portuguese Estefânia (although the use of that version has become rare, and both the English and French versions are the ones commonly used), and the Spanish Estefanía. The form Stéphanie is from the French language, but Stephanie is now widely used both in English- and Spanish-speaking cultures. Also, Stephania, Etienette, Stefa, Stefania, Stefanie, Stefanina, Steffie, Stepania, Stepanie, Stephana, Stevena, Teena, Stephenie, and Stefni.
Shinzen Young (真善, Shinzen) is an American meditation teacher. He leads residential and phone-based meditation retreats for students interested in learning the Vipassana (insight) tradition of Buddhism. Although Vipassana is traditionally a Theravada technique, Shinzen was originally ordained in Japan as a monk in the Shingon (Japanese Vajrayana) tradition. He has studied and practiced extensively in other traditions, including Zen and Native American traditions.
He frequently uses concepts from mathematics as a metaphor to illustrate the abstract concepts of meditation. As a result, his teachings tend to be popular among academics and professionals. His interest in integrating meditation with scientific paradigms has led to collaborations with neuroscientists at Harvard Medical School, Yale, Carnegie Mellon, and the University of Vermont. He is working on various ways to bring a secular mindfulness practice to a wider audience using revamped terminology and techniques as well as automated expert systems.

This short laughing meditation is taken from a longer workshop given by STEPHANIE NASH on January 7, 2012, during a Shinzen Young retreat. It seems to compliment the rigor of Shinzen's methods. It has been offered here in the "short pure form" so that you can follow along and use this in your daily life. http://www.mindfulnessarts.org/blog
This 'designer' mindfulness meditation (which Stephanie calls "the 10 Minute Chill") was derived from Shinzen Young's 'Rest States" and later Shinzen started calling it "Easy Rest" (as it was a pairing of the most easily accessed Rest States in his system.) This is usually one of the first things Steph will teach her students as it tends to lead to more ease in mind and body. This particular meditation was edited down to 10 min - thus there's less space for silent sitting. Steph will record one with more space - specifically for YouTube. Stay tuned. This is the 1st (of 3) part(s) of a longer meditation - i.e. the "TOUR thru SEE/HEAR/FEEL" - based on the teachings of SHINZEN YOUNG. This is the "FEEL" part and includes a short-but in-depth scan through body sensation - noticing RESTFUL flavors, 'FLOW" flavors (expansion & contraction), and EMOTIONAL (or "Feel In") flavors in the body. This has been extracted from a bigger talk (after requests for shorter videos on topics.) Stephanie Nash quickly addresses a strategy for working with emotional distress as an aside during a July 2012 session. http://mindfulnessarts.org/blog/ http://www.LAUGHforINNERFITNESS.com/
As an introduction to a guided meditation, Stephanie Nash describes how we can watch the RELATIONSHIP between THOUGHTS and EMOTIONAL FEELINGS in the body to decrease suffering. Also a good description of having equanimity with one's emotional response. Recorded on May 15, 2011 in Santa Monica, CA. http://www.mindfulnessarts.org
This gentle, easy mindfulness meditation - is the first part of a longer meditation on tuning into grounding experiences (like touch & sound.) Steph's work is deeply influenced by the teachings of Shinzen Young. It was a hot day and thus the sounds of fans & birds permeate but all the better to develop the concentration of keeping awareness on the body. This meditation will have longer periods of silence than previously posted meditations. MORE VIDEOS: http://www.youtube.com/stephnashmeditation0 MORE INFO: http://www.nasharts.com/
DUE TO MANY REQUESTS, this session has been reposted uninterrupted in it's ENTIRETY. (Previous 10 min clips were posted before YouTube allowed longer clips.) January 2010, Stephanie Nash was working with intense emotions that had begun to cause physical issues and asked Shinzen to guide her through working with them. She put a camera up thinking that others might benefit from whatever process he employed. (This has proven to be quite true - at least according to much feedback - since it is rare to capture someone actually having great emotional issues on camera with the experience being resolved in REAL TIME.) Plus, here, the interviewee is an experienced meditator who has already applied many techniques & strategies and shares how they have worked for her, leading Shinzen to delve ...
PART 1 of a talk by Stephanie Nash about working with the 'stuff that comes up' -i.e. the unpleasant experiences (thoughts & feelings) that she calles "Ick." All using mindfulness meditation. http://www.nasharts.com/ Steph lays her premise about suffering ("Ick") and it's relationship to reality - and thought. (Feel free to substitute the work "dukha" for "ick".)
During a meditation class, Stephanie talks of tuning into the "moving nature" of all sensory experience (see other video) and then leads this 45 minute meditation - playing tour guide to possible sensory flow in visual, auditory and physical experience - starting with the breath. http://mindfulnessarts.org/blog/

More fun.
There was no one in the zendo before the evening meditation and dharma talk, and Stephanie Nash pulled out her camera. She couldn't help it (but she did mindfully observe the sensations that motivated her. A little playtime with session at Stephanie Nash Toy Palace. Featuring Disney Frozen Elsa Anna Kristoff & Little Live Pets Bubble Pop Bird.
In this spontaneous dharma talk, Shinzen begins with discussing the components of mindfulness and the importance of understanding yourself as a sensory system. Then he weaves his way through No Self, science, Buddhist metaphors & meditation- to the "Eternal Fountain of Youth" - ending with a pivotal statement about his experience in regards to judging others. Recorded by Stephanie Nash at a residential retreat in May 2016. SHINZEN YOUNG - http://www.basicmindfulness.com Stephanie Nash - http://www.mindfulnessarts.org/blog
This exploration of expansive & contractive forces in our sensory experience is deep-yet-subtle. Great for experienced meditators who would like to go deeper. Stephanie Nash recorded this during a May 2016 residential retreat in Southern California and wanted to share it immediately. Thus, (sorry) no video filters or titles cards - this is the raw video - but you'll have your eyes closed anyway. It's a good one. Guided by a master. Enjoy. At a recent residential retreat, Shinzen answered a question, "Is there Shaktipat in Buddhism?" Shaktipat is the notion that teachers have an energy that gets transmitted to the student in some way. Shinzen discusses this in depth. Recorded by Stephanie Nash at a residential retreat in Southern California. During this dharma talk, Shinzen Young went into what he feels are the 3 primary jobs of the human condition: APPRECIATE (Self & World), TRANSCEND (Self & World) and IMPROVE (Self & World.) He goes into what they are, how to do them, and how several different traditions have their versions of these. Recorded by Stephanie Nash on May 20, 2013 at Rancho Palos Verdes, CA during a week-long residential retreat (with the sound of peacocks calling in the background.) Shinzen Young describes a weird meditation he had while guiding a group meditation - and, of course, as is his style, he goes into his take on "falling up", rupa, and dependent origination. It's a good one. Recorded by Stephanie Nash during a retreat in January 2013 in Southern California. In this dharma talk from a January 2016 retreat (in So Cal), Shinzen examines the Buddhist themes of ANICCA (Impermanence), DUKKHA (Suffering), and ANATTA (No-Self) in the context of a scientific perspective. And one of his last statements was, "You don't die - you do an end run." Listen to see how that manifests. PS - due to a broken video camera, this was recorded on an old iPhone - so not great sound, but grateful to have captured it. Recorded on retreat in So. Cal, on New Year's Eve 2014, Shinzen lays out different paths & strategies to liberation. He also talks of which perspectives influenced him the most, gives a beautiful description of the teaching of the Heart Sutra, and then he describes the liberated experience with clarity and poetry.
